So, seeing as Nomads and PanOceania are my tied second favorite factions, I am planning on getting into both of them via the Operation: Icestorm and Beyond Operation: Icestorm kits ( Soon™ ( I'd like to get that started around early ITS 10. ) ). So, I've made a basic list using the units given in those lists and I'd like to ask you people what's good and what's bad in it, and if it's really a good way of entering into the faction? Gen-List: Icestorm ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10 ALGUACIL Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10) ALGUACIL Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10) ALGUACIL Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10) MOBILE BRIGADA Lieutenant MULTI Rifle + Light Flamethrower / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 39) KRIZA BORAC (360º Visor) Mk12, Submachine Gun / Heavy Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 63) HELLCAT Spitfire / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 28) INTRUDER (X-Visor) MULTI Sniper Rifle / Pistol, CCW. (1.5 | 43) GRENZER MULTI Sniper Rifle / Pistol, Breaker Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 32) REVEREND HEALER Combi Rifle, Nanopulser / Pistol, EXP CCW. (0 | 33) SPEKTR (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 32) 4.5 SWC | 300 Points Open in Infinity Army I feel like this list is pretty heavily geared towards board control TBH. Between the two snipers ( I am not sure how good the Grenzer is as a sniper, but between V: Courage, decent ARM and BS, and MSV1, I think it'll be a decent option. Intruder sniper seems top notch though. ), the Spektr in the midfield with his mines, and the Kriza Borac being able to march up into the midfield and enter Suppressive Fire ( Does Full Auto LV2 stack with the MOD from SF, BTW? I've found nothing that really definitively points to no, but I could be simply wrong. ), really seems like it can decently lock down a good chunk of the table. Hellcat seems to be pretty good for flanking around too. Kinda feels short on specialists though, but at least one is an Infiltrating TO specialist and the other is, from what I have heard/read, a really solid Doctor. Feels like a decent entry into the faction, but again, I have no practical knowledge of the faction beyond fighting against it ( Or, well, to be specific, even then I've only fought against Bakunin so far. ), so I'd like to know what you people think. Any ideas for how to expand would also not go amiss. Good start, bad start? Are my assumptions here wildly off into the wilds, or did I manage to get some things vaguely right? Thanks for reading at least. Edit: In slight retrospect, I feel like making an Alguacil into a Lieutenant is probably a better idea than the Mobile Brigada being the Lieutenant. The list clearly has the SWC to spare for that, and it'd allow the Mobile Brigada to go out and actually do stuff with less risk.
Full Auto doesn't stack with Supp Fire anymore. It used too, but it is getting errata'd (in Solved Rule forum). HI in B3 SF still locks down a good chunk of table.
Hey there, In short: Yes. The Ice Storm Nomad force is a very good starting point for Nomads. The power of this set depends on how far you want to go with Wysiwyg (what you see is what you get) and Proxies (using miniatures in place of something else). Ice Storm set as is: Would say it is rather not a competitive list. You might learn some, have fun etc. Practically in usual circumstances You ain't going to win an event with that - no matter what. Still it is a solid way to enter the game and learn how to play Nomads. Ice Storm box ignoring Wysiwyg: This is a better option. You gain access to Intruder HMG, Kriza Borac HMG and other useful loadouts. You can switch loadouts in and out between your lists at a whim and this let's you create a competitive Limited Insertion format list. Nomads ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10 INTRUDER HMG, Grenades / Pistol, CCW. (1.5 | 42) KRIZA BORAC HMG / Heavy Pistol, CC Weapon. (2 | 54) ALGUACIL Hacker (Hacking Device) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 18) HELLCAT Boarding Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 21) REVEREND HEALER Boarding Shotgun, Nanopulser / Pistol, EXP CCW. (0 | 32) GRENZER Missile Launcher / Pistol, Breaker Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 29) SPEKTR Hacker (Assault Hacking Device) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 36) ALGUACIL (Forward Observer, Deployable Repeater) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12) ALGUACIL (Forward Observer, Deployable Repeater) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12) MOBILE BRIGADA Lieutenant MULTI Rifle + Light Flamethrower / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 39) 6 SWC | 295 Points Open in Infinity Army Last is the Ice Storm box with Proxies. This let's you use your Nomads as any miniature that is equiped with the same weapon and has the same S profile. This opens a lot of doors. You can switch out expensive fighters and bring in some other (best in slot) options. For example changing two Alguaciles into Zeros etc. Below is just an example of miniatures switch: Nomads ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10 INTRUDER HMG, Grenades / Pistol, CCW. (1.5 | 42) KRIZA BORAC HMG / Heavy Pistol, CC Weapon. (2 | 54) HELLCAT Boarding Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 21) ALGUACIL Hacker (Hacking Device) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 18) SPEKTR Hacker (Assault Hacking Device) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 36) ZERO (Deployable Repeater) Combi Rifle, E/Mauler / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 19) ZERO (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 19) MOBILE BRIGADA Lieutenant Boarding Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 33) DAKTARI Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 14) SIN-EATER MULTI Sniper Rifle / Pistol, CCW. (1.5 | 33) 6 SWC | 289 Points Open in Infinity Army So overall - yes, this is a very good set. Among the miniatures you will surely use are: Kriza Borac, Intruder, Hellcat, Spektr. Rest is also solid, altho id varries between lists and strategies. Hope it helped. Cheers!
I generally draw myself the line when it comes to proxying units as other units, as personal preference. Easier for me to remember that a unit on the table is indeed that unit if it has the fitting model. I'm perfectly with proxying loadouts ( Preferably ones that can resemble them more, I.E.: I proxy my Beyond Operation:Red Veil Daofei with a Spitfire most of the time, since Spitfires kinda resemble HMGs to me, and vice versa. ), do it rather often TBH. And yeah, Intruders, Boracs and Spektrs seem like they'd be some pretty big mainstays in the long term. Solid Camo unit with anti-camo, really solid brick of a Heavy Infantry, and a TO Infiltrator, because who doesn't like TO Infiltrators? Thanks for the feedback!
Nomads ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10 ALGUACIL Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10) ALGUACIL (Forward Observer, Deployable Repeater) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 37) MOBILE BRIGADA Lieutenant MULTI Rifle + Light Flamethrower / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 39) KRIZA BORAC HMG / Heavy Pistol, CC Weapon. (2 | 54) SPEKTR Hacker (Assault Hacking Device) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 36) 5.5 SWC | 298 Points Open in Infinity Army Here's what I would do with weapon proxies. I think it equips the various guys to be able to tackle unique situations, with hacking on the Spektr and Sensor on the Grenzer. I like the Lt. on the Brigada, usually the only reason to use him is late game anyways so the Lt. order is helpful then. edit: during list building I try to think "why would I ever need this guy".
Some spare points leftover for another Alguacil FO DepRep there. Seems rather solid, TBH. Personally, whenever I list build or look at units in general, I don't so much look at why I would ever use a unit, instead I prefer looking at what that unit has and how I could make use of what it has. Personal preference and all that, y'know. Also, speaking of weapon proxying, how'd this look? Nomads ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10 ALGUACIL (Forward Observer, Deployable Repeater) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 32) HELLCAT Hacker (Assault Hacking Device) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 28) GRENZER (Forward Observer, Sensor) Combi Rifle + Light Flamethrower / Pistol, Breaker Pistol, Knife. (0 | 27) REVEREND HEALER Boarding Shotgun, Nanopulser / Pistol, EXP CCW. (0 | 32) 2 SWC | 300 Points Open in Infinity Army Downgraded the Spektr into a FO, since it preserves the Antipersonnel mines and moved the AHD onto the Hellcat ( been having good mileage out of the Tiger Soldier AHD, so having an AD: Combat Jump AHD is something I know how to make use of at least somewhat. ). Managed to get the Borac onto a MK12+SMG with the saved points, and while this offers inferior firepower to the HMG for sure, this loadout does bring some amazing board control, I do believe. Otherwise, kept a lot of stuff similar to the list you posted.
A regular Alguacilles causes some doubt on who your Lt. is. That list is fine although kind of light on firepower. With only the Intruder armed for +24 and the Hellcat with a Combi you might be running around AROs a lot.
Most AROs I tend to run into tend to be of a hackable nature, locally, so the Hellcat can force some openings with the AHD, but I do agree that is very local meta subjective. Also, fair enough, keeping a regular Alguacil would keep an opponent guessing on who the Lt is.
Swap the Mk12 for the HMG and the BSG Healer for a Multi Rifle. Also ‘borrow’ 2 off-faction helper bots (or just use markers). Solo MI Drs/Healers without bots are painful. When I was first looking at Infinity, I was torn between starting with Nomads or PanOceania. The obvious answer was to buy Icestorm! Once I started playing, I quickly decided I prefer Nomads and began focusing my purchases on them, but those Icestorm minis are still quite useful. The newer Beyond Icestorm is even better, as the Hellcat and the Intruder are both units I frequently use! The two boxes provide you with a good starting point, from which you'll be able to make decisions on the kinds of units you want to add (eg if you like the Spektr, try the Zero and the Bandit; if you like the Hellcat, try the Tomcat).
Made a teency weency modification for the original list I posted here, for those that still care. Gen-List: Icestorm ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10 MOBILE BRIGADA Lieutenant Boarding Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 33) GRENZER MULTI Sniper Rifle / Pistol, Breaker Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 32) INTRUDER (X-Visor) MULTI Sniper Rifle / Pistol, CCW. All of the models are nice looking from the hobby side of things, so for me that makes the set worth it alone. However, the grenzer and mobile brigada aren’t great. And you won’t be using a reverend healer outside of Bakunin. The intruder is usually better equipped with a HMG (though I personally own all 4 intruder models because they are cool) . Overall , It’s not a bad starting point. If you like painting, you’ll get your moneys worth. No infinity boxes are 100% useful. You have to accept that part of infinity is collecting every god damn model and having tons that just sit unused in the box! (Sleep well djanbazan hacker. Lest one day you are called upon)
In the Icestorm box is the Spektr, otherwhise you would be totally right. The Spektr from the starter box is a verry usefull model, cause you can use it as any profile with Combi Rifle. Edit: Nevermind, you ment the intruder from the beyond box, my fault
Unless you plan on making an Alguacil your Lt., I would consider making one a Paramedic to diversify your specialists. It costs the same amount of points as the Forward Observer option. If you want to play more aggressively, I would make the Kriza the Lt. as well, since he will probably be your main attack piece and you can use the Lt. Order to get more shots off. It comes with some risk but it can be a turning point in games.
