Aside from the obvious Ghost in the Shell and Appleseed franchises, are there any films or shows that make you think of Aleph, or just of Infinity in general?
The more high-tech GUNNM stuff is pretty applicable. Gally during her time as a Tuned almost has the backstory of a posthuman candidate. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if we got a character based on her at some point, considering how much CB loves putting their animu waifus in the game. There's gotta be someone on the team patrician enough to have read GUNNM. Eclipse Phase has a lot of relevant stuff. Iria Zeiram for some reason always makes me think of Infinity. Or rather, certain things in Infinity make me think of it. Which is weird because it's really just an okay, kinda dated feature.
Savonarola got inspired by Alien for his Aleph, which are some of the best infinity minis out there. So I guess there is no limit to movies that may inspire you. I guess Odyssey 2001 has some Aleph in HAL (haven't seen it in a deacde though, so my memory isn't to precise on it). Ex Machina is pretty alright too. And Her might be the best Aleph movie out there. :D
Also, the concept of ALEPH aspects, Lhosts, Recreations and such (artificial bodies that closely resemble humans with an artificial personality inside) comes from Hyperion (awesome novel from Dan Simons).
If we're going into books, Culture series from Iain M Banks was an obvious inspiration. I always see Aleph as one of the Minds. Polity series is also be in the similar vein, not quite as good but very actioney and fun.
The Culture is precisely why I decided to collect Aleph in the first place! My very favourite sci fi series of books.
The Machine is also a neat one. Moments in Kill Command, too. The main character could easily be thought of as a Deva functionary, in some ways.
Also a lot of the Neovatican comes from the sequel, Endymion Gutier definitely read those when he created the setting!
Not about AI or robots or anything, but the music is SO Aleph. It invokes feelings of a Something that is beyond the ability of humans to experience. From the film Annilation.
Do not bet on it lad. I think that Gutier got a really deep interest in IR and history, though. It explain better as a whole the turn of the fluff
Apparently Pokemon is now up there with the rest. I wonder if James will make an appearance after Jessie (maybe even Meowth as a Tinbot or G:Sync troop...?)
Stuff not yet mentioned - Visuals - Elysium and the remake of Total Recall for the Dakini-style military robots Conceptual - Almost Human and Humans for the human-like androids - Elysium again for the space station of "elevated" humans who control everything and possess all the stuff
