I can tell you the biggest problem with getting into N3 is that the rules that ship with the starter set are a lie. Please don't make Code one like the starter box rules.
    -The profiles are fake
-It skips concepts like GUTS rolls.

It really should have a glossery of all the keywords in the boxes 300 point army.

Honestly I'd really love it if I could print a short explaination of the keywords in army builder when code one comes out.

If they make it like that no one will ever learn full N4 infinity.

Well i have to say I dont agree. If the starter has all the key words and all the rules than it isn't easier to get into infinity. There will always be a leap. Ut learning aro and how orders work and profiles is a pretty solid start.
Additionally they are without a doubt intending a certain % of players to never move to n4. Otherwise no need for competitive format. Soooo code 1 is definitely needed and is a hail Mary to get cb 5o grow infinity to a sustainable level...in one form or another. i applaud this while fearing the hard core competitive types will flock to it like vultures. 1 cause they can crush noobs and 2 because it will be the simpler more clean version of the rules.

The leap from the N3 starters to full rules is kind of ridiculous. You need to learn GUTs rules, ZOC AROs, template weapons, objective rules, command tokens, hacking, fire teams and a huge number of keywords they didn't tell you exist.

Its like 5 intro mission when really they should have closer to 10 or 12. There is no reason that there should not be those additional intro mission to work your way up. It's like CB got lazy and gave up after 5 missions. Would a more intro missions really be that difficult to put in the rules?

The places I game at this frustrated many people. They are interested in code one, but never intend to touch N4 cause N3 confuses them.

On a personal note, the most disappointing lack in the intro rule book (Operation boxes) is that you can ARO at any moment you want during the opponent movement.

Compared to other games, it is so different that tend to be counter-intuitive and end in very frustrating situation.
Beside, I think it is one of the main points that make Infinity such an interesting game. It really should be introduce into the intro ruleset.

I think I'm the perfect target for Code One as I didn't reach N3. As I intend to dig deeper than I did so far, this year would be the perfect to get an "intermediary" ruleset.

PS: guts roll should be part of the intro too.

For what it's worth, missions 6-9 specifically cover the transition and how to work your way up to the full rules, and can be found in the Downloads section:
    https://assets.infinitythegame.net/...en/v1.0/infinity_beyond_icestorm_missions.pdf
    https://assets.infinitythegame.net/.../en/v1.0/infinity_beyond_redveil_missions.pdf
    https://assets.infinitythegame.net/...issions/en/v1.0/beyond coldfront missions.pdf

The Icestorm version is also duplicated on the wiki, although with a slightly different structure: http://infinitythewiki.com/en/Icestorm_Expanded

One thing I'm not particularly happy with is "yet again the same order of factions coming out". I do realise that having rules that are being populated with time gives the advantage to release pairs of factions in a box to introduce them. Still for me it's gonna be quite frustrating as an ALEPH player because I don't care in the least for Yu Jing and PanO... I suppose I'll set the money aside for more interesting releases.

Why not make a "pick your pair" affair? think about it: you are not making money for the people that don't play those two factions... while if people could pick a pair (to satisfy oneself and a friend) that would give you more. The whole player-base buying.

Infinity is a game that allows players to play a balanced game because all factions get rules out at the same time. Yet there is a tendency to "follow popularity" kinda way (much like some you-know-who) and that is the reason I left those other games in favor of Infinity. Popularity is something you make by releasing all factions at the same time. Some people probably got "stuck" with a faction because that was one they got to try first and then they just stuck with it... think about it...

You don't have to buy the 2 player starter if you aren't interested in the armies in it? I really don't see what you are getting at since they give all the rule sets out for free.

The existing battlepacks are also due to be repackaged as Code1 compatible, so there will be a Code1 version of Coldfront for players that want to start Aleph.

Ooof, is that machine translated Cold Stream? Google reports that to mean "Cold Stream" in Icelandic, Norwegian AND Swedish. I can at least confirm that it's entirely nonsensical in Swedish. Icelandic is a magical language, I wished they would've opted for real Icelandic, complete with special characters as necessary, if that's the case :)

I don't know what is the goal with Code One, is it to make a simpler version for people who own the minis but don't play Infinity because rules are too complicated for them, or to get new people in the hobby ? If it's for new people I can tell you from my experience it will fail, not because of the rules but because of metal minis. Gateway into wargaming these days are board games with preassembled plastic minis. What do you think GW makes all those easy to build push fit models? They realise this. Metal minis are major turn off for new players. At least this is my experience from doing demos.
I salute the idea of PanO as a starter army for all eternity. Half our players started Infinity with PanO and also from my experience new players learn game much easily with PanO than other factions. High stats with very few special rules might look unappealing to experienced players, but it's great for learning the game. CB smartly recognises this. And Yu Jing is basically like PanO with -1BS and cc tax so having them in the starter is also good idea.
I do want to know more about the minis in this new pack. I have a feeling they might repackage some Icestorm/Red Veil minis as those are being discontinued. Maybe even some minis from Beyond packs ( Daofei, Guilang are White Banner ).

All of the old Battlepacks are being split into starter boxes.

Icestorm and Red Veil already are, Coldfront and Wildfire aren't.
But it would be awkward to have Beyond Operation boxes when you don't have base Operation product available. That is why I think they could be repackaged into new Operation box. I would have no issue with that, if this product is aimed at new players then those people don't really have any of those minis anyway so they wouldn't care about repackaged minis.
There is also no point in sculpting 3 more Zhanshi with combis specially for this pack when they already have those minis in Red Veil and can just port them over. Same goes for fusiliers and Nisse from Icestorm. If they didn't include these base troops in the new Operation box, that would be dumb for at least 2 reasons : it's a starter box it needs to have basic troops and if they are not included here this would force people to buy different starter set just to get some basic troops.

True unless they come out with a new base line troop. I could see them doing it with Yu Jing but not PanO.

I have been playing Infinity since the first book of the first edition. During second edition I attended some tournaments and was pretty active. But N3 proved to be impenetrable for me and my small gaming circle. The game never started to flow fluidly due to the massive rules bloat. This is probably because we are a highly competitive bunch (travelling abroad for tournaments and such) but also play many other minis games (Malifaux, Guild Ball, Eden, Bushido, to name a couple) so we couldn't devote ourselves solely to N3.

Someone asked why people play Infinity and that the complexity is the soul of the game. I wholeheartedly disagree. I play it for the experience that you can get even when going 10 Alguaciles vs 10 Fusiliers. The real core of the game is brilliant and something that no other minis game does.

Now, that doesn't mean that I want all the complexity gone. Far from it! I love camo and AD and so on. But the current N3 is just way, way, way too far.

I love the sound of C1 and we already have new players expressing interest in my circles when they were completely repelled by N3.

Code 1 will almost certainly be repacks with 1 or 2 unique cool models. They really are targeting new players so they if course want to entice unsold beardy types to spend money but that isn't the goal.
I dont think this will be white banner and svet...whatever stupid pano faction hasnt been done - it will be basic cut down rules with existing models, cool terrain and at a solid price point.
If they do make all new models and introduce 2 new sub factions ( I mean generic for the game but us vets will know) than it becomes defiance all over again. 90% of defiance bids is to get the models for infinity...and oh it comes with a free game you can play, rather than a swell of board gamers or people picking up the game for the game. So my hope is they get this right so that the community can grow and they can stay in business and make more stuff and have bigger events...like a us planeterio!!!!
