Since I have seen some members of this forum being quite vocal about the latest changes of the FAQ I just want to drop my two cents here to say the following:

The changes are a net positive addition to the game.

One of the points that have been raised against the latest FAQ is that the new version make 'quite complicated to explain the possible interations to new players'. Well, I for one am a new player. And for me there is nothing more simple and direct and easy to grasp and learn than 'declare whatever you want, we check at resolution if it is legal or not, and in case it was not legal there you go, you do and IDLE'.

For me the previous system of 'conditions must be meet when declared except for X, Y, Z' not only was convoluted and required of gameflow stop to check the rules and wiki in each single case for all the possible arcane iterations that happen during a game, but also lead to one thing that my game group hates with a passion and has led several players to just drop their love from the game: ARO-baiting.

The new rules allow some kind of ARO manipulation? Yes. But the reactive player get to choose what ARO to do at least in the mindgames against his opponent! Yes, the new one can make some of those ARO end into IDLE, but at least you feel like having some agenda into what is going to happen, instead of being forced into the old ARO bait.

Thanks for your time to read these lines.

This was the N4 system prior to FAQ 1.1. I agree with you that it was simple and easy to understand, although not everyone agreed. It was certainly an improvement over N3!

FAQ 1.1 appeared to largely abolish that system and replace it with "check (almost) all Requirements before declaration." That would also have been a good system, simple and easy to understand.

FAQ 1.1.1 is confusing because it seems to be in between those two approaches. We check everything before declaration, but then we still declare things we now know to not meet their Requirements. The two FAQs seem to move the game in two different directions.

Your comments seem to apply to the base N4 rules and to FAQ 1.1.1, but not to FAQ 1.1.
