So the more list building I get into the more I notice 1 thing, that is that I end up fitting the Hsien warrior in every list being a strong HI with msv2 seems too good to pass up especially with the amount of camo my group uses. Am I wrong or is he the best HI for the faction? Also i find myself using a bao sniper alot thoughts?

Recently I've been trying to use the Hsien HMG, but I can't fit him on my Yu Jing lists, I find the Daofei spitfire or Hac Tao HMG way better than him, and you can have 2 Ruishi with spitfire for less points than him (But with worse BS or Armor ofc), but I think it's worth it for the cost decrease.

I've never used the Bao sniper even thought I love how the Bao troops look like, from my point of view it lacks some sort of mimetism to give him the edge on the fights (like the panO Nisses...)

Hsien is a lot easier to keep alive than Rui Shi, plus a Zhanying Haris makes him a nightmare to remove. Bao less so

Yep, indeed it's easier to keep alive with his 2W and lots of armor, I was talking about Vanilla Yu Jing so I wasn't counting on the Zhanying Haris (It's a very cool haris for IS indeed, that 5burst HMG from smoke destroys the enemies of the state empire).

The thing is that I can't find an enemy worth the points of the Hsien. If your enemy has ninjas/oniwabans they can be easily taken down by a ruishi, and if your enemy has some sort of Swiss Guard you can try to hack it with a trusty Guilang (Damn I love those guys).
I prefeer to use a DaoFei Spitfire to make the agression.

I think the Crane comes a close second. Sensor is better for the initial discover. But not of great use after. But the possible Triangulated Fire and the X-Visor comes in handy. But this is only comparing the Multi-Rifle.

It depends on your meta and terrain. The hsien is a great fighter but it does have shortcomings. If your meta is heavy with HI countermeasures or limited lanes of fire the hsien might not be the best choice.

This also applies to the RuiShi since its harder to hide (no prone and big silhuete), needs large spaces to move through. The rui Shi also has hidden cost in that it requires a hacker.

From what you tell us, a sensor crane might also usefully in your meta. Anyway the hsien is a great piece and if it works for you that' the only thing that matters.

My tendancy is towards HI that force my opponent to deal with it (Su Jian, Hac Tao, Daofei) than something that counters my opponent.

MSV2 is strong, but usually I bring enough other tools to deal with smoke/ODD/CH that the Rui Shi can cover that capability solo.

That said, if it works for you, go for it.

I do recommend testing out new stuff as well as learning how to deal with camo and such without MSV2. It helps immensely things go pear shaped and you need to come up with an alternate plan.

I've had a good couple games with my Hsien, if he gets into an advantageous position he can win gun fights against most anything (Using the HMG). TAGs might give you a hard time, and if you are in a bad range band it can get rough, but he certainly can fight above his point cost if positioned well.

That said, he can also die to a Fiday or Oniwaban without firing a shot, and in the reactive turn he's fairly terrible, as enemy snipers and MLs will tear him to bits.

I like the Hsien, but generally speaking, I think he is only strong as an attack unit, and isn't all that versatile, especially compared to something like a Hac Tao HMG who can hold ground or take it, depending on where you put him. (TO+Suppressive+Camo is a hard nut to crack)

I generally prefer to bring the Hac Tao and ask my opponent to answer that question (as my HI choice) and will typically use the Rui Shi as my MSV 2 choice. It allows me to choose where and how to apply the MSV2 and isn't a bunch of 'wasted' points if MSV2 isn't needed. Hsein is great though, no doubt.

The Hsien's got a lot going for him: He's available to vanilla and sectorial, he can be collected straight from the faction starter, he has fantastic current models, all his profiles offer something pretty unique to incentivize their value, he's useful linkable or solo, and his gear is useful in all matchups because of smoke + shoot. Hard to beat that kind of broad-application utility, and while HI like the Hac Tao or Dao Fei are awesome, they're not bringing the same kind of stable, reliable platform offered by the Hsien.

You just need to watch out for White Noise and Albedo, which are fairly rare rules but represent a pretty big danger.

Play like you have a plan means having a plan for when Shit/Dice Happens.

Discovering - Mines, sensor (FO remote, Zhanying, Crane).

Dealing with - Mines, direct templates, spec fire, perimeter weapons, melee/impetuous, shotguns, board control

Indirectly - Obliterate your opponent's non camo troops, camo harder than your opponent,

Direct templates, Close combat, mines, and sensor are all powerful anti-camo tactics, warbands like the Shaolin combine a high WIP for discover and Intuitive Attack, Ninjas can beat the pants off most other camo troopers in CC, and Sensor is as good, if not better than MSV2 when discovering at range and it can do the sensor sweep.

The Sensor Crane is a potent camo hunter on crowded boards as he doesn't need LoF to discover, has 2 Nanopulsers to do a good amount of damage against revealed enemies and is pretty tasty in CC. He's also not terrible at long ranges if he can use Triangulated fire.

Even if you can discover that doesnt change the -6 mod to attack camo troops does it?

You'd be surprised what a little movement and weight of dice can do to TO Camo troops in cover... present them with a choice of taking a mine to the face or rolling unfavourable dodge rolls and you seriously shift advantages as well.
It's just a shame mines aren't terribly common in Yu Jing.

Kanren doesn't have any mines, but Wu Ming does. It's okay AVA on mines but generally speaking the profiles that have them have competing roles or in case of Wu Ming more generally useful profiles.

That's what chain rifles, heavy flamethrowers, nanopulsers and CC are for, - 6 to BS isn't a problem when you're not making BS rolls! Yu Jing also has some good smoke options for closing the distance.

My main faction is Ariadna so I've gotten pretty good at taking out camo without using Visors.

I quite like the crane as an alternative Camo Hunter. Moving her into LoF of a Camo marker leaves them in a tough spot.

Discovering on 14s up to 32" (assuming cover and Camo), or automatically within 8.

After that, there's 2 templates or triangulated fire. TF is surprisingly effective against TO as well.
