Okay, so the new FAQ made clear that the following Fireteam doesn't work:
MACHINIST (Varuna Div.) (CH: Mimetism, Stealth, Aquatic Terrain) Combi Rifle, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 17)
PATSY GARNETT Submachine Gun, Nimbus Plus Grenades, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 37)
    KAMAU HMG / Pistol, Knife. (1 | 28)

However, what about Haris that does not have troopers that requires a Fireteam of a certain type?
SHÀNG JÍ (Fireteam: Haris, Tactical Awareness) Combi Rifle + Light Flamethrower + TinBot B (Deflector L2) / Pistol, Shock CCW. (0.5 | 43)
YĀN HUǑ (FTO) MULTI HMG / Pistol, Knife. (2 | 53)
YĀN HUǑ (FTO) MULTI HMG / Pistol, Knife. (2 | 53)

This will be a Shang-Ji type Fireteam, but the requirements for the Special Haris is "1 Zúyŏng (Fireteam: Haris) + 2 Yān Huǒ FTO.", not for the Yan Huo to join a Zuyong Haris.
    Here's my logic;
    A. Yan Huo can't join Shang-Ji Fireteams, Haris or otherwise
    B. Yan Huo can't join Zuyong Fireteams, Haris or otherwise
Thus, whether it is a Zuyong or a Wildcard providing the Haris skill doesn't matter. The above Yan Huo + Shang-Ji Haris is a valid Haris.

    Is this sound reasoning?

If the trooper with Haris is a Shang Ji, it's a Shang Ji Haris. What rule allows Yan Huos to be part of a Shang Ji Haris?

Like I wrote, a Yan Huo FTO isn't allowed to be part of a Zuyong Haris, either.

It's not allowed in a standard Zuyong Haris, no. But that's why there is a Special Haris which explicitly allows you to have a Zuyong with two Yan Huo.

Like you said, they can be part of the Special Haris which actually is a Special Zuyong Haris.

So, what rule prevents the Shang-Ji Haris from replacing the Zuyong Haris, when the Yan Huo has no rule allowing them to be part of either a Zuyong Haris nor a Shang-Ji Haris?

Yes... but the type of Haris isn't part of the limitations or requirements, the specific Zuyong profile is.

I was also wondering how the wildcards with Haris would work now. It could be 2 readings:
    1. The type of fireteam is only important to know if the wildcards that can only join 1 kind of fireteam can join
    2. The type of fireteam condition all the units that can join it.
So it's number 2. Good to know!

Because it's no longer a Zuyong Special Haris.

Replace the Zuyong with a Shang Ji. Look at the Shang Ji row in the Fireteam chart. Where are the Yan Huo?

I do not see a line where it says the Fireteam needs to be a Zuyong Special Haris. The FAQ now specifies that as a consequence, it is, but I do not see what logic you use to read this as a requirement.

    Hm, I think i see @Mahtamori 's point:
While the latest FAQs states that a Core needs at least one of the troopers it is based on,
this requirement is not listed for a Haris.

So the Zuyong Special Haris becomes a Shang Ji Special Haris,
but that seems to be fine with the FAQ/rules.

    Doesn't it, though?

When creating a Fireteam: Haris or Duo, the Fireteam belongs to the unit of the trooper with the Fireteam: Haris or Duo Special Skill.

It doesn't say anything about "counts as" being good enough, unlike the FT: Core rule.

Heh, you just made an argument for essentially destroying Special Characters' Haris and Duo skills, such as Patsy.

But that's not really what I'm asking about, even if it is an interesting and highly related question. I'm asking about if I've missed something in the rules regarding the validation process for units like the Yan Huo which doesn't specify the Fireteam type, but instead specify specific units or unit profiles.

Edit: as far as my tally goes, this is a very narrow issue. It affects basically... Patsy Haris, Patsy Duo, and Yan Huo in a Haris. Probably a few others, but they're difficult to find.

Hmm, I think I see. The wording on various fireteam skills is all over the place, so I'm not surprised to hear there are some weird edge cases with the new ruling.

Which is why she gained text saying that she counts as an Orc Troop.

No, not for the Yan Huo. But a Fireteam formed 'around' a Shang Ji is not one that says any Yan Huo can be included.

The Wildcard note in the Shang Ji's unit profile? The one that explicitly allows up to 1 Shang Ji to join any Fireteam of the Invincible Army?

ALL Shang Ji are Wildcards. So while you are probably better off using that Zuyong Haris, I'm not seeing where you cannot replace the Zuyong Haris with the Shang Ji Haris in the team with two Yan Huo.

because of the new faq that means the haris now MUST be from thw troop that is the link in question..a shan ji haris is only ever going to let you form a shan ji haris or shan ji special haris now.

Just like patsy can only now use her haris to form an ORC haris

Because then, by the given ruling, it's a Shang Ji Haris, not a Zuyong Haris.

You could replace one of the Yan Huo with a Shang Ji if you wanted, though.

It's easier if the List of Fireteam is used as a guide: http://infinitythewiki.com/en/List_of_Fireteams#Invincible_Army
If you want to form this special fireteam: Special Fireteam: Haris. 1 Zúyŏng (Fireteam: Haris) + 2 Yān Huǒ FTO.
You can only have the Haris in those models that belong to a unit that have that FT listed (in this case both Zuyong and Yan Huo), that FT is not listed in any other unit, so any wildcard with Haris will make that FT illegal.
This new rule has limited the value of Fireteam:Haris in Wildcards.

I think its more that the new FAQ has retroactively made the Zuyong+Yan Huo fireteam explicitly a Zuyong fireteam as its creation calls out using the Zuyong Haris profile.
Like in JSA, the Karakuri + Domaru is a Domaru Haris as you can't use the Karakuri Haris to form the team. Contrast with Ikari where the BraTanko team can be made via either Brawler or Tanko as both units have both the skill and permission.
