My group is having a disagreement about whether Jazz can interact with consoles from range using her hacking device or has to be adjacent to them like other characters. Is it stated somewhere in the rules and we're just missing it?
Hacking is not the same as Interacting. The Hacking action states: Characters equipped with a Hacking Device may preform the Hacking Action against an Enemy withing the Device's Range, or preform one of the Actions described in the Software cards installed on their Device. Interact on the other hand states: This Action allows the Character to use different mission elements or to engage with neutral Characters, as long as they are on adjacent spaces. And then specific for Consoles it says: If you are not equipped with a Hacking Device, roll [blue]. If you are equipped with a Hacking Device, you may use it's Hacking Roll instead. So the Hacking action do not state it can be used on Consoles which means you have to do an Interact Action and that Action requires you to be adjacent to the thing you are interacting with, with no special exception for Hacking Device given.
Ask whoever is saying you can activate them through hacking to link the source that says you can. Infinity is a permissive system, you need to have a rule that lets you do something rather than a rule that prevents you from doing something.
