Hey guys, wondering how exactly guts works. Are you able to move and go prone with the guts action, or only one or the other? If you have multiple options for best cover, how do you choose between them - ie move 2" left to get total cover, go prone for total cover, or even move 2" some other direction and go prone for total cover. Which one would the figure perform? Also, how does the model's facing change during any of these actions? If he dropped prone can he turn? If he moves does he turn? Cheers for the assist
Yes, you can Move and Prone: During Guts Roll, you affect a single 2" Short Movement Skill. If you choose to use Move (which typically is the only one a trooper can use), then as part of a Move you can go prone. Note that it's going to be a 2" Move and that Prone does not affect the distance (Prone affects Mov attribute which is not used for Guts Roll) If all you can do is Prone (i.e. movement is barred from you), I don't see how you'd be able to change direction since all you'd do is place the Prone state marker next to the trooper. Turning as part of movement is always possible, unless very specific conditions apply and I don't think the rules have any such case yet*. * Warning is a Change Facing kind of deal that forces you to look towards the attacker, that's as close as I can get to forced direction.
I just dug up this thread and tagged helios in it, take what you will from it. The argument is there was an old forum post from CB saying you could change facing when proning off a guts check. https://forum.corvusbelli.com/threads/guts-roll-prone-and-change-facing.2021/
Not really. Tox remembers there being a post where someone from CB says this. I don't remember such a thing and Tox hasn't been able to provide a source. Searches by myself yield nothing, except the oddity where Palanka states that Change Facing must turn towards the attacker and you're only free to turn in a different direction if you can't gain LOF from the facing change.
Like I said take what you will from it. I tagged @HellLois so hopefully he clarifies it one way or the other now they have an answered questions forum over here too.
A thing to remember, if you were attacked and didn't ARO (for example because you were shot in the back from far away), then you can change your facing due to the warning rule (http://infinitythewiki.com/en/Warning)
