If a model survives a hacking attack from with 6" of the danger zones source (repeater or hacker itself). Can you move 2" away from the area even though you won't completely escape?
No, the rules specifically says you must "move up to 2 inches in order to try to exit the danger zone, or declare itself Prone if it can prevent further Attacks that way". If you can't exit the zone, you have to go prone.
Reason why I ask is because of this line: If the troop is inside a danger zone, such as the Area of Effect of a Special Skill or a weapon that uses a Template or that requires no LoF, it must move up to 2 inches in order to try to exit the danger zone, or declare itself Prone if it can prevent further Attacks that way. (Emphasis added) It writes like you must try to exit, but doesn't say you must succeed to be allowed to move.
That one is ambiguous at best but I see it the same way as you do. "To try to exit the danger zone" seems to imply two things a) "danger zone" is a bit vague, I'd argue this includes templates, Repeaters, Hacking Areas as well as environmental Hazard Zones. b) You don't have to succeed in one Guts move, it's okay to start making your way outside of a template/Repeater. The really interesting part is if "the Danger Zone" can be interpreted as broadly as "area of the table with LOF to the shooter" against BS Attacks without better Cover in Guts Move range. The part where you get caught 3" away from a piece of Cover and simply have to take it until you die never made any sense to begin with. So I'd be open to interpret it that way, although that is not how anyone I'm aware of plays it right now. It all comes down to what a "Danger Zone" is supposed to be.
'Danger zone' is specified in the text you quoted from kinginyellow: 'the Area of Effect of a Special Skill or a weapon that uses a Template or that requires no LoF'. So yes, templates and Hacking Areas. Anyway, as Mahtamori points out, if you can't exit the danger zone, you go Prone.
I am not follow the why sadly. I can understand this for the cover requirements as this section is extremely clear: If the troop has no Cover against the attack, it must move up to 2 inches in order to obtain Partial Cover or Total Cover against at least one of the enemies who Attacked it, or go Prone. If the troop has Partial Cover against the attack, it must move up to 2 inches in order to obtain Total Cover against at least one of the enemies who Attacked it, or go Prone. These cover guts sections are all about "must succeed" moves or go prone. But danger zone is written differently to those 2 sections with "must try". The aspect of "try to exit" instead of "must exit" I feel is a significant difference on why those two parts could have different effects. It also states why a model in danger zone is allowed to go prone, which is different than cover related prone. It isn't a blank option like cover which cover seems to be a "failed to do other option" but it explains itself as an option that can be used if it helps escaping danger zone. So if you see what I'm missing, please. The rules for danger zone guts: If the troop is inside a danger zone, such as the Area of Effect of a Special Skill or a weapon that uses a Template or that requires no LoF, it must move up to 2 inches in order to try to exit the danger zone, or declare itself Prone if it can prevent further Attacks that way.
