I should be receiving my 3d printer soon (after over a year of waiting .. gotta love kickstarter. See Ono). It should be detailed enough to do some relatively simple models such as remotes. It won't be detailed enough for human models. One of the projects I want to try is making remotes are some generic baggage remotes. Most factions have some version of remote that are 8pts with baggage. One thing that has always bugged me, is that most remotes look the same in each faction. What style would fit most factions? I was originally thinking a tank treads with bags on the back. A smaller simplified version of a Adriana trackor mul. but in general it doesn't fit most factions. I can easily find STL files for 2 legged walker and design a basic top and storage on the back. As a haqq player it would work since our other remotes are 2 legged. But again its the only faction with 2 legged walker remotes. Most faction have 4 legged remotes, but those are the hardest to do and can't find any open source STL files to use as a starter. Keep in mind I'm still learning how to 3d sculpt. For now I'm looking at an ED 209 (orginal robocop), armless with a backpack.
Well, the Baggage models are certainly not similar across factions, but it all depends on the looks you want to share across models. I use Haqquislam's Kameels as baggage bots, and Aleph's Rebots as total reaction and missile launcher (but I've only used once the missile launcher, so he's always the 8 pts mimetic flash pulse), and I also have CA remotes & ikadrons and Nomad's Tsyklons, with mu future plans being to grab the PanO S3 remotes (for 8 pts and 16-17 pts specialists)... But if you want to craft "generic" baggage bots, the Tachikoma is a must!
For an idea of a (cancelled) idea of a current-tech-level baggage bot: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BigDog
Userpic checks out. While we are at it. It's not really directly related, but I'm not sure if I should make a new thread for that. I've recently fancied me some remotes in my lists only to realize Haqq doesn't have models for S3 support bots (Fanous and Rafiq). I don't feel like using converted chickenbots, and S4 bots already barely fit on much wider S4 bases. So, what would you suggest? For the reference, it doesn't have to be Infinity model range, but a slightly-above-current-tech-level aesthetics of Haqq is preferred.
Hm, makes sense. It never occurred to me that having TR option they are possibly S3 for me to even check that. Judging by recent posts, Rebots are an answer to everything REM-modeling-related :D Although they look pretty damn futuristic, as expected.
Nah, it's just that they are the few S3 arachnoid remotes. The PanO ones I think can do aswell, but looking at the Kameel you might want something slender and high instead of floor-hugging, so... The problem comes from the Nomad's options being either S4 or having wheels (ideal for the desert, yeah XD), the CA being too alien (Starship troopers bugs!), the Tohaa being bipedal slaves (sorry, "servants" XD), Ariadna's I think they don't even fit on a S3 base, etc... Yu Jing might also be an option, mind you. It's just that I see them too "big"
I was thinking about the S4 ones then when I wrote that XD. A little less Starship Troopers that the CA's drones, but still too much, yeah XD
Based on a quick google image and how it's done in other factions, the Fanous (cheap repeater REM) is done by having your S3 REM model unarmed (R-drone, Transductor Zond). The Rafiq is still unaccounted for, but I think that's the case for most factions that haven't had their S3 REMs redone (there's no Stempler zond I know that). Also for my suggestion, what about these? https://www.antenocitisworkshop.com/emancipators/a-2413/
That would be the first thought, but as I've said - ugh chickenbots. Still an option, of course. Alternative models are welcome too, so thanks for the input. I really have to check the alt market tbh. Not sure how large it is for sci-fi and other Infinity-compatible stuff though. For example, at some point 40k could boast an amazing range of all kinds of alternate models for everything, including stuff that was never given an official model by GW. Of course, it ended up with Chapterhouse debacle... On a side note, I wonder if REM resculpts are anywhere high on CB's to-do list, but I guess we have no info on that.
based on the unassembled ones I have at home and the pic, I'm spitballing about traktor mul size, so S4 ish? Probably not suitable in that case.
So by ED-209-like are you aiming for something like this: Hellcat mech units from Kryomek. They fit on 40mm bases (and I used to use my pair AS ED-209 units in the cyberpunk campaign I used to run).
