A unit with a burst 3 weapon triggers AROs from multiple models and splits his attack amongst them. The first enemy that the attack is resolved against is attacking back with a Flash Pulse. The enemy gets a hit and the BTS roll is failed. Does the -3 mod from being stunned by the Flash Pulse take effect immediately or after the entire order is resolved? A stunned model can’t declare attacks but I’m assuming that you’d resolve the rest of the burst since it has already been declared.
To expand on what macfergusson said, there are two things that stop Stunned from affecting the other Rolls: 1. All the Rolls are actually resolved at the same time, even if you happen to roll them sequentially (in the Resolution step of the Order), 2. The effects of the Flash Pulse don't kick in until the Effects step of the Order, which is after all the Normal Rolls and Face to Face Rolls. See http://infinitythewiki.com/en/Order_Expenditure_Sequence for a bit more detail on the timing.
Thanks guys. That’s what I figured but wanted to be sure. It seems like the only real advantage to using Flash Pulse as an ARO is if you have a higher WIP than BS or if the unit you are AROing would have had additional orders spent on him to make more attacks.
Aside from @macfergusson has said about range bands, the main use of Flash Pulse as ARO piece is seen on the 8pts mimetic remotes and Warcors, because while they don't impact that ARO, they are forcing the enemy to split the burst or risk not being able to use that model anymore for that turn. Now imagine you face 2 overclocked remotes, a warcor, and 2 more FO units, plus a total reaction. You focus all your burst against the total reaction, your HMG against the TR's one, and win... even if the TR gets wrecked, you now have to make 6 BTS rolls against damage 13 or that HMG of yours can't attack anymore this turn, and if an enemy unit can ARO it it's forced to dodge at -3.
Exactly, that's one of the few "widespraed" weapons which can stop even the mightest Rambo unit just in one failed BTS roll (on their side). That's why it is so usefull against all kind of TAGs, super HI, Achilles etc. Also it prevents enemy from scoring objectives, as every button push is an attack :) (so stunned target cannot push buttons)
Nah, Pupniks and other things like Atipodes and the like are chasing the laser dot. The others? laser to the eyes! What button? I can't seeeee!!! XD
Also flash ammo is Exotic, so it can stop some total immunity werewolves in their track with one hit.
