Druze tournament today

    Taking my druze out to a charity tournament today so I hope to give a good representation. The missions are going to be Biotechvore, Supplies, and Firefight.

    The tournament has a unique rule which is called a Crit Tax. Basically at the start of the tournament each player gets 3 tokens. When you roll a crit you have to spend a token for it to count as a crit otherwise its just a normal roll. You can also spend them to auto success doctor/paramedic checks. You can buy more tokens for $3 a token. So a pretty neat twist and it all goes to a good cause, cystic fibrosos. Hoping to get some wins today and I'll try to kep the thread updated!

    First game biotechvore against onyx contact force. Won 10-0 with 300 victory points. Em grenades and repeaters locked the guy down in the biotech zone.

    Unreal!! Great stuff man! Can't wait to hear more about that one! To be honest I have never played Biotechvore, but always wondered how Druze would get on, having to advance so quickly!

    2nd game done against the guy in 2nd place, I'm in 1st place running OSS. We both tied with 1 objective point. I had 149 victory points and he had 74. Hes a great player and crushed me last tournament. On my lunch break now and just have firefight left.

    Just got a major victory 10-0 with 267 victory points. Went up against invincible army, I'll post some pics and a batrep later on. Pretty sure druze took those one today boys!

    That's so cool!! Well played! How did you find your lists? I think I need to experiment more with Saito! He always does well for me when I take him, he seems so flexible for ITS! I sometimes just have trouble finding the points for him!

    My list for firefight and supplies I was really happy with. Admittedly I didnt do very much practice with those missions for this tournament but it felt like a good tool box list that could handle damn near anything. The biotech list felt really good. Everyone in some kind link makes for really good action efficiency and I appreciate the extra order from scarface.

    As for saito, me and saito have a very difficult history. Saito consistently whiffs and loses games for me so much so that I at one point stopped using him Everytime in druze and jsa he would just choke on things. Everytime my dice hear the words smoke they roll 19's. I once had him surprise shoot a jsa engineer that was hitting me back on 4's and it rolled a 3 and saito rolled 2 misses and a 2 and then lost the armor roll. So it's a joke between me and some friends that the golden rule in infinity lost building is dont bring saito. All that said supplies and firefight let him start right near objectives and get into the fight fast. Like you said hes extremely versatile. So I decided I couldn't afford not to bring him. I've played against saito's and gotten my teeth kicked in so I figured I'd give him a chance to redeem himself. I spent 1 order in him the entire game but it got me a classified so it worked.

    Batrep part 1 *disclaimer* I'm terrible at unit names.

    Why Druze? In games I always love mercenary factions and I just absolutely love the feel and fluff of these guys. They are the most honest faction in the game. They know they're bad people but they could be worse. They get a bad rep for being "limited" in their options but I feel like they have a tool for any scenario. I've played them before in tournaments and have always had a blast and I had finally gotten some contrast paints and painted them up.

    Biotechvore vs Onyx contact force.

    So I had never played this mission before. Its always gotten a bad rep here in my area, Cincinnati. So I always assumed it was a bad/dumb mission before I ever played it. This mission I practiced the most for. I can honestly say it's now one of my favorite missions ever. It's a challenging puzzle for list building and a race to get out of the DZ and into some cqb where the druze can do some serious work. Everything in my list has a link team option and one of the biggest strength of Druze is how we are able to reform links very easily.

    In the game I won the LT roll off and elected to go first, which I think you should always do! 8 of my druze in the list have forward deployment level 1 which can be huge to start up to 12 inches instead of 8. In all my practice games 4 out of 8 would succeed. This game was no different but haris team (Harris, killer hacker, shock marksman) all passed! That was huge because in 1 order they could move 6 inches and be outside the biotech zone. 1 druze in the 5 man link made it up but i would have enough orders to get all of them up and get in position. My opponent had a similar idea of mine, bring a limited insertion list so you get 10 orders and have a link, haris, and alot of action efficiency. He made a very risky move that didnt payoff at all by basically having 0 aro threat what so ever. This would cost him the game imo.

    When building the list the dream scenario was basically always get up the board unopposed, get some repeaters out, and then em grenade the LT with my remaining orders. That's basically exactly what happened minus the em grenade the LT. My opponents 2 main threats were the 5 man link of a nexus and 4 unidrons and then a haris of Xeodrons and a Umbra. Very quickly I was able 5o get scarface into position to hit anyone with a rocket launcher once they came out from hiding. They also had very bad ways of getting out from behind the buildings and up the board. Each group had the long way and the short way. I was able to put a repeater up by each group which made his options awful. His core team could go the short way and deal with scarface and a haris team all while being hacked or the long way and get hacked a bunch and eventually face down scarface. His tag haris team could rush forward and get hit by multiple aros from my core team ot could go the long way around and and get hacked a bunch but eventually try and pick off my link team 1 by 1. I think this is key to biotechvore, make the opponent feel like he has only bad decisions. On his turn he does something I didn't expect he had some unit with 2 flame throwers go up and burn the repeater threatening the tag haris. Though in doing so he wasted 2 orders and died to scarface and cordelia. I think my opponent was feeling pressured to quickly get up the board because he charged the tags and umbra right into my link team and kept them all base to base with each other another critical mistake. His tag would have to take 3 aros? 2 combis and a the em grenade. The combis did nothing but I successfully hit twice the em grenades and ended isolating the whole haris and immobilizing both tags. The whole haris was still in his biotech zone aka the dream. So now hes in a bad spot. He now wastes a ton of orders with doctor worm fixing all of his guys. Once they are all fixed he reforms the link and activates them trying to move up and shoot and I kill the tag with combined fire and isolate/immobilize the other 2.

    So now my opponent realizes just how bad this is going to be because he has no one outside the biotech zone. Surprising again since he was very low on orders he goes after the repeater threatening the core team and successfully kills it. With 2 orders left hes in panic mode and does a full mov mov and the point man who ends up crossing paths with scarface who promptly kills him with heavy rocket launcher. So now he is in a real pickle, if he runs everyone up they all eat a fiery template from scarface or do they risk the biotech hit. With his last order he uses doctor worm to fix the remaining tag but fails. Everyone of his is still in the biotech zone and everyone goes unconscious except for a unidron with a missile, doctor worm, and the tag that's still immobilized. So I'm feeling really good so I'm just gonna play it safe and get my classifieds which I did and then I was able to kill the rest of his units for a 10-0 win with 300 victory points.

    Part two *still bad at unit names!*

    Supplies vs OSS
    I started this one by winning the LT roll and choosing to go first, which druze usually always want to do. So I was dreading this match when I found out who my opponent was. It was the guy who is a very strong player, who won last tournament and who in the last tournament CRUSHED my varuna with his OSS also the 2nd round of that tournament and also doing supplies lol. Those dakinis with marksman lv2 are BRUTAL. Honestly one of the reasons I brought druze today was because I figured they would do really good against him if I ended up going against them. Dakinis cant dodge em grenades very well at all and this time I had my own marksmen lvl 2 trick up my sleeve. This table was alot more open than the last one which I think worked in my favor maybe. Anyway I had deployed my link up the board in the middle behind a building behind the middle objective. I had a duo of a killer hacker and valerya on the left side with camo hunzakut also a bounty hunter who rolled a motorcycle was over there. On the right side I had a fugazi and a hunzakut and saito to deal with the other objective. I made a big mistake here and didnt hidden deploy saito and put him in a not great spot as a marker and was then counter deployed with a deva msv2 looking at him. If you read earlier about my adventures with saito you know that theres no way I'm trusting him to do anything this mission. Also during my opponents deployment hidden deploys and infiltrates someone on my half of the board which is a great mood killer lol.

    Start of my turn and I'm worried about the God awful dakini core team and a haris team with an asura, shak ti, and some annoying mine chucking remote(rudras?).

    Anyway my master plan is to get my clipper some mm level 2 and kill his dakinis. I spend one of of an order when my 3 of the 5 link team members get surprise boarding shotgunned by a infiltrated proxy mk2. I dodge but 2 of the 3 go down luckily not the paramedic. I send the bounty hunter on a bike over and he cuts down the proxy with SMG fire. I'm able to reform the whole link and I get the missile launcher into position and kill an hmg dakini with 1 order and another 1 with the next. The 3 remaining members are behind a building and I'm low on orders at this point. I use my hunzakuts to place mines so anyone going near the objectives eats some mines on the way in.

    During my opponents turn he activates his haris and luckily whiffs with his mines from the remote and his asura gets critically flash pulsed by my fugazi(suck it aleph!) He sends the asura towards towards safety and saito ends up un camoing and taking a pot shot before she escapes to total cover. 0 damage of course because its saito. After this I witness the greatest suicide charge of any unit ever. Shak ti puts on a cyber mask and gets right by my link team before finally getting discovered. She then activates again right in the middle of my guys to E/marat my 3 druze in the 5 man link. She takes 2 mines, 2 viral pistol shots, a missile, a combination rifle, a light shotgun blast,a red rum, and a brain blast. That's 7 aros and 2 mines. 3 of those being in a 5 man link. This lady tanks every single roll! Does not die at all. I've never seen dice roll so God damn high I couldn't believe it all. He was just as surprised as me that she lived and surprised when he remembered that druze ignore isolated, thanks veteran level 1! He felt so dumb for wasting those orders but he did manage to isolate and immobilize the clipper. With his final order he let's loose a mk12 blast which drops the em grenade launcher but dies to viral pistol shots from the other druze.


    Round 2 I send my red headed hunzakutie to grab the supply box from the middle objective. Now I started this game as a pano player so wip 12 has always been the norm for me. When I look at hunzakuts and see that sweet sweet wip 14 I'm expecting these ladies to be Harvard graduates. This lady fails 4 rolls to get the supplies. She was dead to me. My other hunzakut is going to just cross an alley and grab the objective while my opponent gets a free combi shot which is in bad range and will surely miss. Of course I fail the roll and he dropped the other hunzakut. Running low on orders and time I reform my link and move up to the middle objective. Before going for it I'm gonna em his LT. I fire a grenade which affects both the LT and an engineer close by and of course the asura passes but atleast that engineer is pretty much useless. The asura fails a guts roll to be out of line of sight and I try some more grenades but this time with speculative fire and fail them all. I have the killer hack join the 4 man link to make it a 5 man and then with the last order grab the supply box with my druze paramedic but I got 5 dudes not in great position and most out of cover. I'm gonna hope their grit and training see them through!

    The next turn My friends deva with spit fire makes his way through my link team and ends up killing the machine gunner, killer hacker, and paramedic. He then cyber masks his asura and is able to make it to the right most supply box and get the supplies but on the way out my bounty hunter sticks her with the arkyat Janine glue gun thing! This was a huge move for me.

    On the last turn I bring valerya over to form a 3 man link with my sniper and final druze. They successfully kill the deva spit fire, run back behind the building I started at, and the sniper was able to finally drop the Lt Asura! I had a couple orders left and spent them on the remotes and ran one up to grab the supplies. On the way in I was flash pulsing against his rudras bot but managed to get the supply box. Now with 1 order left I make the mistake that I think cost me the tournament. I'm in LoS of that rudras gun but but I'm feeling confident because I survived 2 k1 shots getting there and getting the box. I then activate the bot and move once 6 inches out of LoS and I should have moved 4 more inches to get into LoS of my 3 man link to at the very least protect the box which would have had me win the game if I stopped him from getting it. Instead I dont realize any of that and stupidly flash pulse him and die. His final turn he spends his remaining command tokens and run the bot up to the supply crate. Now luckily for me I have saito togan still alive and hes protecting the box. Saito aros 3 times against this remote and the last one is unopposed and he of course misses the shot and making me tie the game 1-1 with 149 victory points.

    Part 3 *unit names*
    Fire fight VS IA

    So firefight is a great druze mission imo. We have a 16 inch deployment zone which means druze start 20 inches up the board! That's nearly em grenade heaven especially against things really close up the board as well. I'm going up against another 10 order list and I win the LT roll off and choose going first, again I think you always want this option! With this game my game plan was to deploy almost everything on the left side of the map. Typically people with 10 order lists will deploy on the other side away from you to avoid the alpha strike. So I leave basically just a bounty hunter who rolled flash pulse:( and some cheerleader remotes plus and hvt on the right side while my druze core and duo and brawler LT are on the right side. I deploy my 1st hunzakut in the middle by the panoply and saito on the left side by that panoply. I normally use saito as the reserve model but again I'm wanting my opponent to deploy on the right side away from me to give basically free reign on the table to set up aros and repeaters. He takes the bait and unfortunately makes a critical error in deployment.

    He put his zuyong link team pretty much in a straight line on the right flank but all in total cover from the left flank. This basically concedes table control to me and with a fully hackable/em weak army is a big problem. Also I noticed on the table that on that right flank was a really good place to deploy in total cover against the left which he took the bait for but there was a fatal weakness. There was a building half way up that had a door way which would let a unit with say mines and a light shotgun be able to just decimate anything on that side. After his deployment I place my camo token by said door. It was a chance for the red headed hunzakutie to redeem herself.

    So 1st turn she fully redeems herself. She not get said doorway and is able to drop 2 mines out the door in range of these super expensive zuyongs. She then peeks around to see 1 zuyong and blast him with the light shotgun that is gonna hit 3 zuyongs and a remote behind him. The other player knew this game was gonna be quick a brutal as soon as I deployed that camo token and realized he made a huge mistake. In one order 4 templates go down, 2 mines and 2 shotgun impacts. The link team is immediately down to 2 members. No one was able to get cover from the hunzakutie. I now activate my link who has plenty of long range options to fight across the map but opponent doesnt have a ton of great stuff left. His one aro piece was a missile bot that got dropped by the light shotgun but luckily for me didnt die. My link advanced and kills a flash pulse bot. Luckily for me that missle bot was close enough to another heavy infantry engineer (can't remember which one) that wasnt in the link and out of range of the shotgun and mines. So I em that bot and end up affecting the trooper who failed his dodge and bts saves so it's now isolated and immobolized as well as one of the other troopers that were in the former link.
    The only real threat left on the board is a hulang shock trooper in the middle of the table that I quickly kill with the 5 man link. After a couple more orders the 1st turn ends up with my opponent left with just 4 units out of 9 left on the board 2 of which are immobolized.

    Whenever IA has 9 orders on on the table that means a liu xing is coming to party. I did a decent job of keeping my guys spread out in order to minimize the damage it could do but he places and it ends up going to affect 2 of my druze. Valerya was having none of that hacks the transport to no avail but my opponent rolled a natural 20 on his deployment roll and unfortunately dispersed him right onto the bounty hunter and goomba stomping him like Mario. Equay unfortunate that meant he lands in sight of the clipper drone bot who blows kills him with a missile. My opponent then moves a hacker up the right side and finishes his turn.

    Turn 2 my hunzakutie blasts an isolated troopers away and then sets up a repeater in range of the hacker and some bodies on the ground and the last zuyong. Valerya grabs me a classified and my killer hacker redrums his hacker and melts his brain. I move my link to deal with the last zuyong and my missile launcher actually drops to lonely combi wielding zuyong. My next order the hmg finishes him off though. I know have just an isolated immobolized jabroni to deal with so I grab something from the panoply and move saito into my opponents half and claim an objective. He does nothing for turn 3 and I spend my last turn machine gunning down the last guy.
    10-0 267 victory points.
    I ended up 2nd place by 1 tournament point. Stupid ties :p

    Final thoughts.
    I had a blast playing druze today. I'll be the 1st to admit I'm not the greatest player in the world and the Cincinnati meta is the interplanetario. I had some good matchups and capitalized on some mistakes my opponents made while I felt like I didnt make as many. I've always felt like druze have a fighting chance against any faction and if you can start em/grenading stuff you can just shut an opponent down. I think druze have the tool boxes to fight out of any deployment zone. We have pitchers, smoke, infiltrators with mines and repeaters, an msv2 sniper, some tags, and almost all of our weapons hit harder. I think this plays into the play style if druze being an alpha strike army and you want to embrace that. They can do defensive links and it's easy to refill back up to a 5 man link but we wanna get in close and set up bad decisions for our opponents to make. Not only are the druze good at fighting out of Deployment zones but they can lock people into them with repeaters and decent hackers. The fear of em grenades also helps lock people down and dont under estimate that as an aro weapon. The only real downside I feel is our lack of shock immunity and 2 wound models. Druze are absolutely allergic to crits and bad dice rolls. We only have 4 choices I believe that can actually take a hit and keep going. So remember that when you play them and make sure you're always in good range bands and try to get your opponent into the bad ones. Have fun playing your druze and I hope you guys enjoyed reading and hope you all have great luck in your games and that your saito togan actually contribute!

    Great write up! Thanks for taking the time to do this! Makes me want to do the same for my games! Sounds like you had a great day! I have grown to really love the DBS faction so am always delighted to hear of people doing well and enjoying playing with them! :-) Could I ask why you take the Druze paramedic? I don't often see it in lists, do you use it more as a button pusher or to bring people back? 8's on a reroll with a command token isn't awful I suppose! Also I love that Saito is a bad luck generator for you, it's so funny that some models can get reputations like that, I have a chain colt bashi bazouk my regular opponent hates because she literally passes every armour save she has to make! It has given me a completely distorted view of how effective bashi's are! Lol

    So the reason for the paramedic was because of a special rule for the charity. Doctors and paramedics could heal a trooper with an auto success of I turned in one of our tickets that we bought for 3 dollars. You still had to get into base to base or tag them with the medkit. So my paramedic I brought along because I planned to just pay and do the auto success. Normally I wouldn't go that route. I'd usually take the brawler doctor to save on points or sometimes not even take a doctor and just use command tokens and reform the link back to five with a spare druze or brawler. I also wanted another druze for a decent gun fighter with a damage 14 combi and chain colt.

    I like to think saito betrays me because I use the nakadai model from outrage instead of the actual saito model lol.
