Hello Folks, i like to show you my recently finished project. But befor i get to the pictures, some backround.
I've learned to build scenery out of Styrodur from Gerard Boom. He is quite known in the german spaeking tabletop community for his craft. I use some of his tools, too. But some of my tools are self made, as well. My primary tool of course is a hotwire foamcutter.
But 'nuff said, here wo go:

At first i cutted two cylinders (the whole thing wouldn't fit under my foamcutter in one piece). From then on i cutted numerous rings, slices and segments. I started with the outer parts and kept going to the inside. The stairs where one of the most complex parts. I begun with a quarter Segment which i cutted into slices. I glued them overlapping together. After drying i cutted away the overhanging parts. The window, door and hath were seperate parts, i added later.

I primed everything black. Most spray paints will dissolve the Surface of Styrodur, so it's mandatory to use a suitable paint. These paints often contain water as solvent, however. Therefore they need much more drying time. In the next step i applied brown primer with my spay gun, followed by medium red. I sprayed the roof first with a dark gray primer, followed by gray.
I painted the floor and details like windowsills in black and several gray shades. I used lighter shades to add some highlights. I used some black wash for the finish. And here we have the result:

lastly i added some ladders from MicroArts and a neon sign from Customeeple.

Overall it was quite a work but it was a huge fun and a great payoff, too.

Very nice work. Very clean. I like clean. Post more of your work when you get the chance.

You didn't cut the ladders from styrodur, too? Joke. You used one of those table based hot wire cutters, like the Proxxon? I'm curious about the glue you used, and the paint you used. Does Gerard Boom post anything online?

Yes, many questions. i don't use styrodur much, but I am alway interested in learning about other ways to build things.

    Thanks!
Yes, the hotwire cutter is from Proxxon. I use express paste like Ponal. Express paste is excellant at glueing styrodur together and even totally OK at connecting styrodur with wood. There are specialised glues for polystyrene foam out there, but normally they are not correctable after the first contact, so they are hard to use.
I use a wild bunch of different acrylic paints for my terrain. Some of them are more designed for old school hobby painting than tabletop (especially the spray paint, which is Carbon black from Liquitex). But these are the more traditional ones:
Red: Surface Primer German Red Brown from vallejo, Dragon Red and Pure Red from Army Painter
Black / Gray: Surface Primer German Panzer Gray from vallejo, Uniform Gray from Army Painter
bluish gray: Dark Reaper and Thunderhawk Blue from Citadel

I don't know if this is against the Advertising rules, but you can find Gerard Booms amazing craft at his Homepage: https://www.shiftinglands.com (virtualy you can just google him)
Mostly fantasy and historical stuff but some wired items like a bolter, too!

Where's that :nosebleed: emoji on this forum?!?

    Mind.

    Blown.

(And I say that as someone who has helped make an entire freaking airplane out of blue styrofoam, with fiberglass skin)

Truly impressive. I am humbled and awed. It is stuff like this that discourages me from posting my own meager attempts at scenery.

    Keep up the good work.

I am not 100% content with this ptototyp. First it's a little to tall. And i'm not satisfied with the structure on the backside. Next time I'm gone do some kind of metal plates. Maybe i'll ad some texture on the surface, too.
