Defeating the Rivals

    I had my 4th game and my second against Ramah. Yet again I got totally decimated by Tarik jumping around and killing a lot. I did get McMurough up to him and kill him but was later killed for it. Tarik and Khawarijs are literally the death of my force. He’s not even using the Spitfire Kawa. It’s the MSV2 Mk12. So smoke doesn't help much.

    Anyone have ideas? Other than trying to make a big ARO team, but then I suffer in other areas because of that. Below though is something I’ve come up with for a big ARO presence.

    With all of the crits and/or high damage Spitfire/Mk12. The Zuyong armor and wounds means nothing. TBH I never thought there was much difference between ARM1 and 3.

    We are doing Paradiso with Spec Ops starting off with 6xp. Since mine died in the first game and go zero points. I figure I'll start from scratch and take a Spec-Op with a spitfire.

    If you could provide a rough idea of what your opponent is fielding besides the Khawarij core, it might help better pinpoint what's going wrong.

    I don't think the solution to Tarik is trying to out-shoot him in ARO. His mobility and firepower are just too great to rely on that, even if you have superior numbers. Fatalty L2 means he's always got a good chance to just blow up your defenses no matter how much you stack the mods in your favor.

    That's not to say you shouldn't try, but I'd suggest a quantity over quality approach. At a start, for 27 points Dahshat can get three Fanous and a Warcor, enough to blanket a pretty solid area with Flash Pulse AROs. While they're not likely to actually win any face-to-face rolls, they still must be dealt with, and that's potentially four fewer orders spent killing stuff you actually care about. If you can find the spare points for a Kameel EVO Hacker, Fanous remotes with Overclock are monstrously difficult to deal with relative to their cost.

    You can also try to tamp down his mobility a bit using impact templates. Liberto Minelayers and Hunzakut LGLs are excellent for that purpose - both have multiple template options that can punish a fireteam for moving forward too greedily. Again, they're not expected to beat Tarik in a straight fight, but if they can clip other members of his fireteam while he's moving forward, you can sap a lot of his momentum. Khawarij may be offensive monsters but they're still ARM1 W1 light infantry and absolutely do not want to eat a stray Light Shotgun round. The best part is since they hide under camo, your opponent will be forced to treat every camo marker as a potential template threat.

    Lastly you could try for the ol' Lu Duan rope-a-dope. Accidentally "forget" to defend a flank and leave a Traktor Mul Minesweeper or Kameel EVO in as blind an alley as you can manage. When Tarik and friends come knocking to try to break into your DZ, hit them with the surprise Heavy Flamethrower ARO. Best done if you also have Overclock running for that sweet burst 2. It's a bit unreliable but it'll make your opponent think twice in every future game about treating your Traktor Muls as free kills.

    I've tried the Liberto mines. Unfortunately they are 1 swc each and he easily avoids them. Also with WIP14, it doesn't take much to clear them away. So far he's only done Limited Insertion as well so I can't cut down his orders.

    I haven't seen much of the rest of his force because that's all that's used to kill me. Tarik and Kawa. Well, the core link is Tarik (at first, then he moves outside the link), Kawa doc, 3 Nafatuns. Then haris of Kawa Doc, MSV Mk12, I think a Fatality L1 FO. I know a doctor because I did wound one and he just brought it back. No hackers but he has nothing hackable either.

    I don't know about the exact odds, but catching Tarik with Saito might work to a degree. Would be even easier without the MSV2 Mk12 Khawarij though, but I think he might have a decent chance if he manages to engage him.
    The Hulang might have a chance to cut him into pieces too, but it's easier avoided then Saito in Hidden Deployment.

    I was thinking of Saito too. I like McMurough but I still need to get him up the board.

    I just remembered he also takes an Al Faseed.

    I'm thinking of what good defensive links Dahshat has and what I can use against Ramah in ARO.

    The case against the Rui Shi in the link is that it's the target priority #1. 2 Zuyong HMG is going to be harder to deal with. Better BS, ARM, and 2 Wounds.

    I tend to like numbers over damage but there's usually no walking away from the ML. I've found that it's fantastic with Tanko's in Ikari and doing similar here could be fantastic. The ABH is a hell of a lot better than Keisotsu too.

    Definitely McMurder for attack and Saito is great too for that. The Al Faseed is awesome too. Then Hunza-quties for specialist work. I also love the Rafiq+Bounty Hunter Duo as well.

    I now feel though of going with something similar to my Ikari Keisotsu links.

    McMurrough does have one definite weakness and it's the Mukhtar Haris Viral Rifle guy. Watch out for that. You might think "well that's one profile" and yes it is but the Mukhtar Haris is extremely strong and popular, and there's one guy who needs to be there for it to be taken...

    Obviously hide the LT on reactive turn, and pull him out on active if you need to delete something with B5 -- You can swap the LT out for another Observer if you want, but depending on range band, thats a very strong ARO game, and the core can stop being defense and push buttons if need be.

    4 flash pulses is so annyoing

    I had similar to deal with on the weekend but RTF. That ML was a pain the ass.

    I just got done listening to the white noise where the winner of adeptecon was talking about his hollowman Missile launcher link ran the table.

    The best part is when you catch a link member on a corner and throw 2 of his friends 3 armor saves.

    Sure the zuyong missile launcher is the best we can do, with a durable core but we can also do it with our 6-4 bot who can duo with I’d assume Any wildcard.

    I had great luck with the above link in my last game. Although appearently total immunity makes you immune to flashpulse
