Neoterran Capitaline Army ────────────────────────────────────────────────── CSU Boarding Shotgun, Nanopulser / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 11) CSU Breaker Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12) CSU Combi Rifle, Nanopulser / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12) CSU (Specialist Operative) Rifle + Light Shotgun, Nanopulser / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12) CSU (Specialist Operative) Breaker Combi Rifle, Nanopulser / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 15) Open in Infinity Army There are a LOT of cool new things to get excited about (and more coming out of Adepticon this weekend I'm sure) but one little thing which may have been overlooked by many is the expansion of the CSU profiles. Nothing lost, and on top of it Specialist Operative profiles with Rifle+Shotgun AND a Breaker Combi for a great price AND they both have Nanopulsers too. I mean, I know everybody gets excited about Metachemistry, but they’re missing the important thing here… Sixth Sense! Delaying your ARO is an AMAZING tool for a defensive unit, because it means people can’t deny you AROs by using Smoke or corner Turn-to-Face shenanigans. This makes bypassing the CSU nearly impossible and turns them into one of the best defensive pieces NCA can access. This potential makes the Boarding Shotgun w Nanopulser golden, and the Combi Rifle w Nanopulser even better (once you get it into Suppression Fire). But the REAL go-to here for many will be that Rifle+Light Shotgun because this brings the best of ALL the choices together into ONE option with the +6 with Impact Template of the Shotgun, the Direct Template Weapon of the Nanopulser AND the opportunity for Suppression Fire from the Rifle! Add on top of that Specialist Operative and this choice is nearly unmissable. But for just three points more you can get a Breaker Combi Rifle... and this may just have become by go-to "I'm three points short and already have a CSU" (because, seriously, who doesn't just add PalBots at the same time as TraumaDocs and Machinists and consider them part of the cost?). On the other hand, a CSU with No Wound Incapacitation, or 8-4 movement, can make an excellent additional attack piece. Depending on the circumstances they may actually make a very good Data Tracker choice too (remembering that your Metachemistry roll is done on deployment and your Data Tracker choice is after) especially now that they can also be pushing buttons along the way. Long story short, the CSU is an excellent choice in NCA (and everywhere else it appears, despite the opinions of ISS players to the contrary) and something you will want to look into if you haven’t already. Now more than ever!
While correct, this glosses over just how much of the current Meta is Light Infantry with no BTS for EVERY faction. So you're right, but it's SO MUCH BETTER than that against most targets out there today.
I'm also leaning towards the Breaker Combi over the rifle+LSG because I'm crap a judging which gun to use when an enemy is 7-9" away.
It's easy, if you got to delay your ARO then they are in Shotgun range. If you didn't then you aren't getting an ARO anyway ;-)
If a model moves in your LoF and within 9" can you delay aro? What happens at resolution if you were out of 8"? Aro lost? Or do we measure zoc at aro time?
This is a fair point, but given their importance to deployment zone defense for NCA I don't expect I'd often be putting them within 8" of one another to take advantage of it. But, if I WAS going to be more aggressive then it IS useful. So good call. As I understand it you can't measure before resolution, and "Delay" becomes an illegal declaration if outside of 8" so you default to Idle. I'd be happy to be wrong (as I think this is one of many stupid details dragged in to maintain unknown ranges which I find pointless at best and frustrating at worst as a component of game design... ESPECIALLY in a future-tech game).
CB really need to get their points straitght. Is really creazy how do they undercost some things. CSU just went from good, to crazy amazing (not Moon Knight crazy though, this is only reserved for CB special loved ones).
Yeah, the CSU in NCA is a big sleeper hit, I'm really glad CB gave these presents to NCA. That's perfect too... One of my staple lists has two boarding shotgun CSUs, and totals at 298 points. Clearly it's fate! I talk a bunch about CSUs in the White Noise episode coming out, and was singing their praises then. They're even better now with that stellar Specialist profile (that's a lot of firepower to fit inside a briefcase gun.) In the years since CSUs became part of NCA, I haven't rolled up that super movement yet, but I'm sure the day will come. This is actually a really nice asset for NCA in button pushing missions, where suddenly two useful light combat/defensive cheerleaders now become very capable toolbox Specialists.
It's not just PanOceania comparisons which cause the same confusion either. I mean how are: GHULAM Rifle + Light Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12) And: CSU (Specialist Operative) Rifle + Light Shotgun, Nanopulser / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12) In ANY WAY fair in comparison.
Well, giving SS1 + Metachemistry + Specialist + LSG+Rifle + DTW (nanopulser) is really bit much for 12 pts. It's funny to see how much overcosted combis are :D Oh and +1 CC xD
It's not PanO problem, it's StarCO getting amazing stuff and actually dropping a bit so PanO can also have some nice things (even if they are not theirs). Again, CSU with LSG+Rifle+SPecialist +SS1+DTW for 12 pts is really a bit much for the points paid....
The comparison between the Ghulam and the CSU above really puts the last nail in the claim that "there is a points system which is NEVER adjusted". If there WAS in the PAST then it has been abandoned.
I'd actually love a comment on that. Everything could be explained with some general adjustments to Skill, Equipment and weapon costs. That is if those only affect the troops from the new book until now. If we get recosted Breaker Rifles/Breaker Combis as well as cheaper Combi+LSG for everything in time that would be great. Zayedan, Rodoks and Bolts would sure appreciate that.
