So, question came up last game. Gorgos with Symbiomates got hit and critted by a MULTI Sniper, shooting DA ammo. He spend the mate to ignore the armor rolls. He took 1 direct wound from the crit. Does he need to roll for the 2nd? What if the weapon was AP / EM (like in CC)? He would take the E/M effect as a crit, but could he spend the mate to not need to roll the ARM?
"However, when using the SymbioMate, all Critical Attacks received will be applied as usual." The whole hit is a Critical Attack. The usual way of applying a DA crit is to automatically take 1 wound/structure and then roll ARM vs the second. Symbiomates stop neither: what they will do is stop other hits that aren't crits. So Senior Massacre critting with his AP + EM CCWs will automatically causea the Isolated state and then the target must roll vs half ARM to avoid the AP damage. The Symbiomate will stop the other hits Massacre did that didn't Crit.
Just to reinforce inane.imp's post, this is the text for a DA critical: Critical hits with DA Special Ammunition cause the target to lose 1 point directly from his Wounds/STR Attribute, bypassing the first ARM Roll (the target must still make the remaining Roll). And other multi-roll ammo types use equivalent wording - the remaining rolls for that hit are part of the critical.
