My dear JSA enthusiasts, I don't know if you have noticed, but CrazyKoalas have changed significantly with the coming of N4 and there is now an interesting tactic possible which involves Yojimbo, Baggage remote and CrazyKoalas. First of all, the rules that make it possible. Baggage In N4, any friendly Trooper can expand an Entire Order to use Baggage rule to replenish weapons/equipment with Disposable trait. You have to be within Zone of Command of the Baggage model. That's a huge improvement, in N3 you had to enter base contact. Zone of Control In N4 Zone of Control is a cylinder based around model with a radius of 8" reaching 8" down and 8" top from the model's Silhouette. Crazy Koala In N4 CrazyKoalas no longer move along their owner, they remain stationary after being deployed. In N4 you can no longer start with both CrazyKoalas deployed, you can only deploy one and only if you have a Minelayer skill. In N4 you deploy a CrazyKoala using a Place Deployable skill and you can field the CrazyKoala anywhere within Zone of Command of the owner provided there is a valid route to that spot (no matter how long). Now for the tactic: You need to place your Baggage model as close to the edge of your Deployment Zone as possible and deploy Yojimbo close to the Baggage model in a way his Impetous movement will not provoke any/many AROs and so that Yojimbo will be hidden from enemy models after that move. If enemy has no AROs to Yojimbo you can start using Place Deployable with Impetous move, otherwise you Smoke/Dodge. Either way this move should get your Yojimbo about 8" towards the enemy Deployment Zone. From that (hopefully safe or smoked) spot you safely place 2 CrazyKoalas 8" towards the enemy. Note that these CrazyKoalas can be as far as 17" from your deployment, so you can even engage models in enemy Deployment Zone. And the best thing is you can do this several times, because if you use up your both Koalas you can spend an order to get 2 fresh ones from the Baggage remote. Also remember that you can put your CrazyKoalas in relatively safe and hard-to-get-to spots, like roofs of buildings with stairs thatnks to how the Zone of Control works now. I know that this tactic seems rather order hungry (I would say it would work best if you use both Yojimbo orders and 3 regular orders to place 4 Crazy Koalas), but it gives us an answer to some pesky models we might have trouble, for example: superior ARO pieces we could have a problem with otherwise. This way if we deploy a CrazyKoala within 8" of them they will have to choose between shooting our advancing heavy Infantry or dodging a CrazyKoala elusive objective grabbers hoping to grab a smoked up scenario objective Parachutists/Combat Jumpers. One CrazyKoala can protect up to 16" of the table edge from Parachutists and rather large area from Combat Jumpers. Links. Staggered deployment of CrazyKoalas (deploying them every 8" from enemy link and then 4" apart) would either make enemy lose many orders trying to dodge them or make them sacrifice some models to clear the mines. What do you think comrades?
