So I'm jumping into Yu Jing. I got my hands on a second hand deal, and all the units I have my head around their roles and how they work, but I already have the ltd edition crane from the Giraldez book, and I'm wondering how to use him.

Its stats are great, but it's an expensive HI with great CC ability, but that's it. It seems a points sink for a non-specialist HI with no heavy power, and a need to get up the field to be effective but no tricks to do that.

How do you guys use him and is he worth the points?

He is a very capable solo LT if you have a pheasant somewhere, eg Pheasant/Bao Haris and Kuang shi core.

    Something like this maybe:

I don't think I would play this unit outside of ISS personally. In Vanilla you have the Dao Fei who is a better gunfighter due to camo with the same BS and ARM, on top of being more order-efficient because he infiltrates.

He shines more in ISS where he's linkable with some cheerleaders but in general I'm not a fan.

He is very niche compared to his spitfire friend who has a very good home in Celestial Guard links. That said, he's one of very few units who can tank a hit to set up a triangulated fire, and if your enemy ever tries to tie up something of yours in melee they will regret it with the Crane MULTI around.

Hmmm the Crane Agent from the Giraldez book can be any version it wants to right? if I remember he's just in a cool looking sword pose with no weapon, or was there one hanging on his back?

Anyways, as mentioned before, I think he works best in a Crane + Celestial Guard Linkteam in ISS, where he turns into a real killing machine! As a solo model especially in Vanilla Yu Jing he's a bit lacking when compared to other options out there, but if he's all you got, he's still quite the powerful HI that will usually get its worth back in killed enemy models if you give him the orders to do so. Keep in mind that he has X Visor, which allows for him to shoot at some unexpected range bands, often giving him an edge where he shouldn't have one.

In ISS he is my main leutinent linked or not. In vanilla is a bit more problematic. He is not bad, shots at 13 and good CC hability but it lose the comparation with other Yu Jing Ips. I use it when i want one Ip to carry but i don't have enoght points to pay a Hac Tao or a Hsien. .

Like you the first time i picked it was just for the cool model but when you get used to his tricks ( CC, double nanopulser, sensor) is fun and worth. He is not bad, but if you pick it try to made a good use of the point you win taking it insted of a Hsien

And in misions like the old armoury or decapitation he is gold, can easy survive against the tipical hassasin in CC and you may use it with trinagulated shot. An also make a good combo with sniffer kanren and 8 point remotes.

The crane is actually quite useful in Vanilla. In my opinion he is actually one of Yu Jing's best data trackers. He's one of the better mid field bruisers we have. Sensor on most profiles, X- visor, 2x nanopulsers and a multi rifle make for some devastating close support offensive power. Where the MA 3 works really well as an effective deterrent or an option for well dug in enemy models.

The following list i ran in a tournament last year. Both of the games i ran with list i won. 6-2 and 10-0. Both were against 4x symbiomate Tohaa lists at 14 orders for the 6-2 win. And 15 orders for the 10-0 win. Having that reliable armour and BTS offers a lot of security.

Can't speak for ISS cause i don't play them at all. But i've seen and heard good things about them from players who do play ISS.

I use it mainly in ISS, in a Celestial guard link. However, I think it has a small niche in a Vanilla list, thanks to his X-visor or his hacker profile.

Spitfire is for linking with CGs, there are many better solo gun platforms around.

Assault hacker is a good, if pricey, combat specialist. Multirifle, 2 wounds, good hacking stats, even CC and templates if you need them. Nice and versatile.

Sensor profile is similar, but eschews specialist status but goes all-in on the funky shit. I'm a big fan of the multirifle, shotgun should be ignored as usual with these expensive HI. Sensor can help clear out camo and set up ridiculous shots with triangulated fire, X visor means your shock/AP suppressive fire is especially brutal, templates and CC let you smack the crap out of those TO camo units you revealed, and BTS6+stealth helps it stay unmolested by hackers as a midfield HI. A big weirdo to be a non-specialist rifleman at that price, but damned effective if you use his tools properly.

I basically have three use for my crane, one for each profile:
    - Spitfire: Link team gunner
    - Assault hacker: Solo tanky specialist, for those mission where you need a specialist to sit on a console and hold it at all cost.
    - MR/sensor: Mid-field terror and expendable rambo. Sometimes he has to take the lead as my fireteam gunner.

I really want to emphasis how much i LOVE the MR/sensor, because it's probably one of the funniest unit to play in ISS (i'd say on par with the su-jian). Spending a whole group worth of order on him and use every single one of his tool to wreak havoc in the midfield is by far the most satisfying thing i have ever done in this game, mostly because of how well it portrays ISS intended playstyle: an unstopabble murder machine who, if fuelled with enough orders, will find you no matter how well you're hidden and straight up kick your ass!

Thanks for the replies guys. Seems the hacker profile is pretty popular. How do you he stacks P against the hac Tao hacker?

Same WIP as the Hac Tao but not as beefy and no camo...I take the Crane when playing ISS, the Hac Tao for Vanilla

I'm using the limited Crane from Giraldez' book mostly as a Sun Tse in my Vanilla Yu Jing.

Lower PH, lower BS and lower cost as well.

Man, imagine a Crane with TO camo...

In vanilla i would consider the Mr/sensor before the hacker profile to be honest. If you want a gunner specialist both the Daofei and the Hac Tao will do that much better, but when it comes to dealing with a bunch of camo tokens the crane takes the upper hand. I'd probably try something like Hac Tao HMG, Daofei hacker and Crane sensor: clean up long range aro with the Hac Tao before sending in the crane to clean up mid field objectives for your daofei/guilang to grab.

I only play him in ISS, just because the celestial guard link makes him so good.
Either the spitfire version in a long range fire team/defensive team or the senso profile if I want to move up field. People always say that infinity is a shooting game, but the crane gets stuck in with something about every other game for me (and that something usually wishes it was literally anywhere else). I usually try to find one objective that is defensible and then move him and his posse up to it.
