I have been running some introductory games for an interested new player and they decided they definitely wanted to go ahead with Infinity. I know this person well and play board games with them regularly. I know they take a while to learn rules and learn best by introducing only a few rules at a time, playing with those, and then introducing more rules later. I am certain Code One would be the best way to ease this person into Infinity. When I took them through all the factions, however, they fell in love with ALEPH (specifically, OSS).

I would still like to use Code One as their introduction. I was hoping people here could help me out with approximate (and fair) Code One styled profiles for a subset of the OSS units. They will be starting with the units in the OSS Action Pack. They will almost certainly pick-up the Sophotect, and I think the Asura is also a likely early purchase (they loved the mini). The Rebots are basically identical to Nomad Zonds, so they are easy to convert if required (I play REM-heavy, so they will have plenty of opportunity to see REMs in action). They should be ready to move onto full N4 rules before they ever look at things like Posthumans or Netrods.

I am a Nomad player: I do not know ALEPH (other than being tabled by Steel Phalanx in N3). Are there any units I should be directing them to early-on? Do you have any basic advice for a new ALEPH player I should be passing onto them?

My thoughts on the Action Pack converted to Code One:

    Apsara - 1.5pt Boarding Shotgun/Hacking Device, 1.5pt Submachine Gun/RemDriver.
Dakini - only Mimetism in Special Skills. 1pt Combi Rifle, 2pt Heavy Machine Gun, 2pt MULTI Sniper Rifle, 1pt Paramedic.
Deva - no Special Skills, no Devabot? 1.5pt Combi Rifle, 2pt Hacker, 2.5pt Spitfire/MSV2, 2pt Lieutenant.
    Naga - Surprise Attack (-3), Courage, Infiltration, Mimetism (-3). 2pt Boarding Shotgun/Mines, 2pt Combi Rifle/Mines, 2.5pt MULTI Sniper Rifle, 2.5pt Hacker.
Rudra - Climbing Plus. 3pt MULTI Rifle (+1 Dam), 3pt AP(?) Marksman Rifle, 3.5pt Red Fury (+1 Dam).
Shakti - no Special Skills? Hacking Device. 3.5pt Mk12, 3.5pt Lieutenant.
Shukra - only Discover (+3) in Special Skills. 2pt Boarding Shotgun, 2pt MULTI Rifle/Nanopulser, 2pt Lieutenant.
Yadu - no Special Skills? 2.5pt MULTI Rifle, 2.5pt Hacker/Boarding Shotgun, 3pt Heavy Machine Gun, 2.5pt Lieutenant.

Also, Sophotect: Doctor, Engineer. GizmoKit, MediKit. 2.5pt Combi Rifle.

How do these profiles look? Does anything need tweaking?

Man, I didn't realize how much gets stripped out of OSS by losing access to NWI, EM, and the trick/leadership skills.

I think the Deva Lt would be the same cost as the Combi Rifle Deva, as they are the same cost in N4.
For the Rudra, I'd skip the K1 profile, rather than trying to bowdlerize the gun. Maybe let them know that there is a third gun they use in N4, but the action pack comes with the multi rifle modeled.
For the Asura, I'd cost it 5 points for the base multirifle & Lt multirifle, then all the other profiles (Spitfire, Hacker) as 5.5.
Maybe include the Garuda as a 1.5/1.5/2 pt option?
The rest of the stuff looks pretty good for a conversion, especially if you're planning to eventually move onto N4.

    Thank you for the help!

I did not think of the Garuda (shows I am not an ALEPH player). After your suggestion here I took it to them and their response was basically: "OMG, yes, I want one!" They are going to order the OSS Action Pack, the Support Pack, an Asura, and a Garuda as their starting selection of units.

Interesting. In Nomads, I used to use the Alguacil SWC guys all the time in N3, but find them worthless in N4. I now spend the SWC on better models. Is that different in ALEPH? Are Dakini Sniper/HMG options more useful in general (I am guessing the Apsara and Assisted Fire are part of this), or is it more that the Deva is a key unit?

A BS11 trooper will be just a BS11 trooper no matter what weapon you give to it. Even as part of a Fireteam it's not much of a threat against very powerful enemies. They are good as cheap specialists, cheerleaders, defending your deployment zone, and even the humble Combi Rifle can bring down the big guys sometimes when you have no choice but to resort to your line troopers.

But the Dakini bring Mimetism, and that's a huge multiplier when it comes to FtF rolls. Then there is the Apsaras, further increasing the BS to 13. And the icing in the cake is Remote Presence, that gives you more chances to bring the Dakini back to the battle if it goes down.

As Abrilete said, the dakini has some skills (mimetism, various bot bonuses) that make the HMG useful even outside fireteams. The sniper dakini is a decent ARO piece if you get into N4 and have a dakini fireteam, and the paramedic dakini is a great backup specialist (though that's easy to proxy from the original dakini models). The spitfire deva is also useful in lower point games, or if you need a camo hunter.

Forgot to mention that the Dakini are fast with 15-10 MOV, which helps a lot the Paramedic as a fast and cheap Specialist (that is also harder to hit thanks to Mimetism).

Thanks for the clarification. I have passed this onto the player. They will switch to the Dakini box rather than the Support box in the first purchase, but are currently waiting for the local store to restock (shortages of everything during the pandemic).

I think it would be better if they built a new force for code one. Lots of units and still loose things as well, from smoke+stealth to adheasive launchers.

If they built a new force and then took choice parts from the other two or even just Operations I think it would work better.
