    Salam Aleikum!

It’s been long since I’ve wandered these halls, longer still that I haven’t commanded our forces on the field.

Honestly, I think my last game was during the wotan campaign...shame!
So now our club is having this league, and the prospect of playing 4 games over the course of 3 months sounds like the perfect opportunity to ease back on track, playing vanilla haqq.

So, we are allowed one list per game, and the missions are:
    The Armory
    Tic Tac Toe
    Rescue
    Frontline
All games are 300 points with soldiers of fortune and spec ops.

For the first game I know I’ll be up against JSA. So I wanted so board control, to holding a firm grip on the objective room. Also I wanted the option of blowing a hole in the wall rather than hacking all the doors open.

The list below is what I’ve come up with so far, but I’m stuck with expanding it.

I feel the need for another attack piece, possibly with a backup msv2, maybe some disposable snipers to further hamper his advance. As for the options, I haven’t seen much value in bringing mercs, but maybe the spec ops is a way to bringing swc free heavy weapons. Lastly, bringing any of the new guys (namurr, nahab, etc.) is a plus, but far from mandatory. As is our custom, any input is much apreciated!

All that said I plan on reporting how the game goes (scheduled for saturday), and bringing my thoughts on the next missions as well!

    Thank you so much!

I would look at the MSV2 mukhtar, and the Farzan MML1 FO. Follow that up with a couple hunzakuts to move in and Mine the place. Then surround it with Ghazi Muttawiah.

The Naffatun will make it very difficult for him. JSA do not have the best armor.

The Al'Fasid will use minelayer to make it difficult for him to blitz with a Oniwaban as well.

    Thank you for the input!
The naffatun are rather fine choice for this missions, and it scaped me completely! The msv2 mukhtar seems a suitable replacement for the Djanbazan, trading range and burst for resilience. The addition of Leila is welcome, one of my favorite models, in the game.

I’m not too sure on the Fasid, though. Tend to think that ARM is overcosted and, with my luck, unreliable. Also, the role the MML1 Farzan is unclear to me... would you elaborate?

From you input, I came up with this:

If I’m not mistaken, the Nahab can swing with d-charges at the Armory wall. Opening the way for Hunzakut and Farzan to set up kill zone in there. I expect to be on the receiving end of a HI blitz, so repeaters will also go in there.

Mukhtar would be held back to be in sweet range of room entrances. A ghazi would be posted near him to enable smoke. Would it make sense to hold th naffatun back as well, for a second turn recovery/clean up?

Also, I did go back to 4ghazi, but only because I had no better idea of where to put the points....

    What do you guys think?

This is the 4th or 5th list I have seen here, in the last two weeks, that has a Naffatun Lt. Why is this option so popular?
It cant even properly defend itself, when something attacks it in its hideout. A Ghulam would be able to FTF with his Shotgun at much better odds than a Naffatun with the Rifle not to speak of the FT.

I did it because against JSA you will be FtF an Oniwaban Suprise hitting you. With TO+Suprise attach+MA3, your not shooting back. The Flamethrower will hit no matter what though.

If that is the plan, the list probably needs CoC.

On naffatun: they are rather reliable DZ guards against certain threats, so if you want to play shell games, that's the Lt you might use.

TBH I really like my Naffatun LT. Before they got these option my favourite boss in small pts games was Hafza hidden as Naffatun - now I can just spam few flamers and let the enemy think what to do ;)

    Hello everyone!

The game happened as planned. Didn’t write before ‘cause the game itself took very long... my opponent had been away from the game even longer than I did, so we had quite a few points to look up, and even so managed to play some stuff wrong.

He brought a ten strong force of JSA with a Tomaru/Tanko core, red fury Daiyokai, A KHD Ninja and a couple more toys. Very different from mine, which you see above, with 20+ orders. That difference made me somewhat reckless, and perhaps made him overly cautious.

As planned I had initiative and was able to dominate the Armory blowing one door up. Had the farzan and hunzakut lay mines inside, and a repeater as well. The placement of this repeater was a mistake. The second mistake was the placement of the mukhtar, I planned on covering the lane outside of the TR view.

On his active turn the linked ML blew up the door to the Armory with clear LoF to the repeater with the blast template dumping my mines, the repeater and the hunzakut all at once! Then he moved up the dayokai and picked off the mukhtar with ease, and then the namurr. But unable to go inside the Armory, he went into suppression by the door. Armory is mine, and got +2 arm for Leila from the panoply.

On th 2nd turn I focused on removing that big samurai off my door, so I could move the naffatuns inside. It wasn’t all bad, but I feel I could’ve gotten more value by laying mines and making his advance more costly. He moved inside with his link team, slicing the pie to engage each piece separately. In the end he had Takeshi inside, and I had my Farzan. Armory is his, but one of the naff got ODD.

Third turn I do what I can to recover the armory and hamper his possibility of doing the same. Killed takeshi, and pushed my opponent in LoL, and broke the link team (I was dumb enough to try surprise shooting him with the farzan, to which he AROed with a delayed engage). Had a Ghazi move closer to the remainder of the link and E/Marat them from the safety of a smoke template. One passed his BTS and avoided being immobilized. I tried hacking it, but failed twice. Even wounded it with the impact template from the Rafiq aiming at the immobile tanko, but it was not enough. In a last effort moved the fanous into the ghazi’s smoke, hoping to flash pulse it before it went inside. On LoL and with only 2 command tokens left he clears threats with Saito and a mimetic spec ops, and moves inside with that tanko. Armory is his, game is his.
    Final Score 6 x 3.

I felt I had a very optimized force to play the mission and fight my opponent. I’m sure I forgot about my mimetism and immunities more than I should’ve, but I don’t think that would’ve changed the game. Having better prep form his blitz would, specially placing more mines and in a more intelligent manner. Also leaving the mukhtar to ARO was just stupid, the daylami did a far better job at this.

Next up: Tic tac toe against Onyx Contact Force.

Note that if the Armory door is destroyed, it counts as a narrow gate. "LoF can never be drawn through Narrow Access points created by the Destroyed state" (http://infinitythewiki.com/en/Destroyed).

So he should not have been able to shoot into the Armory with the repeater.

So next games is up, likely Wednesday or Thursday.

I’m trying hard to come up with a list, but I’m over-stressed by work and feeling dumbstruck. As mentioned before the second game will be to dispute the 9 antennae with the Onyx Contact Force.

I know I want a strong mid field presence, that is bound to come in the form of farzan, hunzakut, daylami and possibly al’hawwa. I’m giving thought on the libertos, as well but i’m unsure the 1swc is worth it.
The idea of having a last minute specialist is also interesting, either via TO cammo or AD. But I fear those are points sorely missed during the previous turns....
Also, do you think a EVO is mandatory in this mission?
The +3 WIP for connecting antennas sure is good, but if there are no other sinnergies feels like a waste...

    So here is draft 1:

Destroying a door doesn't create a Narrow Access Point, it just renders the door permanently open.

N3 Frequently Asked Question FAQ Version: 1.1
Q: When an Access Scenery Item (a door, for example) enters Destroyed state, is the access point blocked, open or something else?
A: The Access point is considered open.

Are you limited by your collection or proxying?
Sounds like a job for the Farzan FO with MML1. Nahab KHD gets a vote from me as well for just a solid profile.

Between Hunzaqt, Nahab, Farzan, Libertos, and Daylami you have a lot of stuff that will be out of your DZ which gives you more free reign.

    Proxies, for sure!
Otherwise it’d very unlikely that I’d be playing rather than buying, building and painting!

I’ve been giving them some thought, specially the nahab. But went for the boarding shotty ‘cause that’s more in line with my luck. Also talking to my former opponent, who already played this round, has made me rethink the EVO.
Also, going over Onyx’ options, I’m not convinced the Fiday would make much of a difference taking specialists out as I had hoped. Dropped th Djanbazan to give the msv2 mukhtar another go, and gave the doc+ role to a spec ops.

    Allright!

The game happened last Thursday night and it was very fun!

My opponent played a somewhat large Onyx list based around a Rodok Core with a Nexus.

I won initiative, and chose to go second, so the final word on antenna control would be mine. This got me the bad side of the table, with a manageable but significantly harder to use cover layout. My deploy was rather simple, with most pieces in total cover, and the camo markers to threaten the center antenna and the one to the left of it. My reserve model was a TR bot, which was very aptly countered by his Makreep Tracker.

The game didn’t even start and I was kind of regretting no bringing the Fiday.

My opponent focused his first turn on disabling my ARO pieces, throwing one warcor at the libertos mine and another to discover a daylami. He also brought in a yuan yuan with the intent of disabling my EVO, but scattered just behind the Namur, managing to wound him before being taken out. The makreep made short work of my TR, causing 3 wounds in one go. He then moved his link up my right flank, connecting 2 antennas along the way, placing the HMG guy on a very good position to counter my advances.

I started my turn smoking everything I could!
Without the regular order on group 2, I felt I wouldn’t be able to do much, but the irregulars and impetuous proved plenty to obscure view. This gave me freedom to connect the antennas near my deploy, and the center one. I coordinated some orders to move my guys up, and take out the his mimetic TR bot along the process, or so I thought. I also realized that my Rafiq had no chance against the rodoks so actived it twice to redeploy on my right. This proved to be perhaps my biggest mistake, as it shortened my orders to prepare for round2: I placed the mukthar in suppressive fire, but forgot to re-cammo the farzan and the Hunzakut.

My opponent exploited my mistakes skillfully: First he used a slave drone(which I totally missed) to bring his TR Rem back (shuld've killed it dead, not only unconscious), which pinned my rafiq. He then proceeded to surgically remove my skirmishers with the added bonus that they were no longer in camo state. He chose to advance his rodok link along thy left flank rather than face the -9 to shoot against the shock suppressive fire of the MSV2 Mukthar (I admit I had not yet realized how potent this guy could be in this position). They took out 2 of the ghazi in the process, only the last one managed to smoke dodge the wrath of a linked HMG.

This surviving ghazi made all the difference in my second turn. He started his impetuous smoking the LOF of the Rodok Link, but taking sniper fire from the makreep, causing him to go dogged. With his irregular, placed a second template that would allow the mukthar to exact bloody revenge on the spacemonkeys, without reprisal from the sniper. But not before a rather funny incident: Being fairly close to the same link but out of sight, the naffatun lobbed a grenade which took two out, knocking the BS bonus to burst. Admitedly, I wasn't counting on this, but it singnifcantly boosted my confidence to smoke trick the rest of the link and break it. When my turn ended there was just the Nexus and the link filler rodok (combi+2lsg), managed to dodge out of sight.

His last turn was rather short: trying to defend the many antennas he seized, he did some shuffling around to further hamper my advance and placed many of his troops in suppressive fire. He also brought back a warcor to complete his classified.

With only one daylami in group 2 I tried my luck to blast the standing rodok, no luck. I figured if I could take him out I would be able to enter the table with the Nahab and save maybe two orders on connecting the antenna and moving on the the nexus near the previous one. Moved out the naffatun and got a crit to the face. So in come the Nahab with 5 orders left to be the Rescuing Calvary: He entered the table just outside my deploy behind the rodok, assaulted and ate him up in CC; captured the antenna connecting my line; moved up the the next antenna on my left and took the nexus with his boarding shotgun.

End of the Game I connected the line nearest to me, and broke my opponent's running form his deploy to mine. Score: Haqqislam 7 X Onyx 1

After thoughts: the Nahab played beautifully and was certainly the MVP.
I really need to improve my attention to the pieces in the center of the table: Farzan, Hunzakut and possibly the libertos could have lasted a lot longer had I been a little bit more careful. I'm still getting the hang of using daylami successfully, but I thinbk they played their role of roadblock very well.
As far as list building goes, I would maybe reconsider the namurr. Sure it is one tough ****er but I felt I had not enough orders to do everything I wanted with it and the Mukthar, and everything else.

One suggestion: If you want go second, take deployment and let your opponent place first. Now he has to chose if he wan't to take the double disadvantage and take the second turn.
Some armies can do this, but usually, you will get your second turn.

As @Ben Kenobi said, most players will choose go first, but not all. If the enemy has strategos L2 or L3 and you don't, it could be the rival chooses go second, because still he will deploy two mitiatures after you. Becareful. And for armies like hassasin, JSA, where are impersonators or really good infiltrators, most of the times it is not a good idea go second. Be aware of that.

For example: If I play hassasin or SSS, everytime I can choose, I made the choice "I will go first", but if I'am playing with Acontecimento, them probably I will choose go second, depends on the rival and the table.

But the choice of the order deployment is often forget for the players, and it is a really really good choice in some scenarios.

Two weeks ago I played the third round of our league, and I hadn't yet realized rescue was such a difficult one. The central zone is a big no-no: saturation, difficult terrain and exclusion, means no shooting, moving or deploying as you normally would. I've spent far too much time tinkering with the list I would take, And I'm not sure why I didn’t post it here before.

    Open in Infinity Army

The first thing that needs to be said about the game was that my opponent played incredibly well, his Military Orders list was based around a Knight core led by Joan, with Aida Swanson and Dart as his "runners”, Major Lunah and a Spec Ops both with multi-sniper for ARO duty, rounded off by Trauma Doc and palbot. At the time, I felt I had a more optmized list with plenty of options to complete the mission, but that just shows how one can be arrogant.

I'm not sure where did my mental confusion came form, but despite deploying second I've made several mistakes. The worst being hiding the Barid on the flank opposite to the his HI link, rendering his pitcher useless. To be honest, I felt intimidated by that link, and played overly cautious... That meant he had a lot of freedom to move about in the exclusion zone, despite being grossly outnumbered.

The highlight on my side would go to the Govad ML. The fellow managed to take down dart and a link filler, and ate a good portion of my opponents orders to be put down. He made sure to destroy the nearby nasmat and my hopes of brigning the Govad back, punishing my bad deployment again.

Then I begun fumbling... The very point I raised on the last game was my biggest hurdle in this one: having far too many interesting options and not enough orders to fuel all of them. The Namurr was perfectly suited to go through the difficult terrain, and bring the civvies back. The Mukthar had better tools to deal with the Knights, through smoke trick. The Hunzakut pair could place repeaters to hamper the Knights, and mines to protect the civvies on my side. The hortlak would have made a formidable suppressor mid-field. The ghazi could do whatever you could think of with their monstrous arsenal....

I tried doing everything and achieved nothing. I guess my only noteworthy play, was using the warcor to coup-de-grace an immobilized knight, complete my classified and grant me my only victory point. Once more I felt I had a kicka** list, but didn't play it well.. I've been overzealous and lacked focus on the mission. Despite ending the game with 251 surviving points, against his 199; I lost 6 x 1.

Next is frontline against tohaa, the last game in our league.
I don't have a good track record playing agains tohaa, and any advice is most welcome. I would really appreciate input as to wether the style of lists I've been playing can be effective, and if there is any piece I should leave home without.
