Hello all, First off...I'm new to Infinity and the forums, only started painting stuff last year. I've been lurking around here for a while now. I love the miniatures and only recently got back into the hobby. Still teaching myself NMM and glazing techniques. I played the other game for a long time but always used metal paints. Lately, I have been working on some Aristeia! miniatures and I thought I'd show them off. These were the miniatures I painted over the last month. I have completed the starter but need to get some additional pictures taken of them. First up, Senor Massacre. Love the way this guy turned out. Next, Maximus. Really happy with the chrome effect on his shield. Valkyrie Gold NMM is my bane. I still haven't really quite gotten the hang of it yet. Parvarti Major Lunah...not the best pic....need to do better here. Some day I will have a proper photo setup. Hope you enjoyed these and I look forward to posting more. Cassius6303
@Cassius6303 You did a very good job on here of these models. The highlighting and freehand on Maximus is especially awesome.
Very nice!!! Well, the simple answer used to be the GW color "Snakebite Leather" mixed with white. But that color doesn't exist in the GW range anymore, sadly. You might try Foundry Spearshaft 13B, or Vallejo Game Color Cobra Leather. Foundry used to make paint for GW back in the 1990s, and Vallejo Game Color dates to one of GW's requests for bids for a new paint range in about 2000 or so (which is why so many VGC names are not-quite-GW paint names). Last time I did NMM Gold, I base-coated with Cobra Leather, washed with Chestnut Ink (Army Painter Soft Tone is a match to the GW flesh wash), then started my highlights with a fresh bit of Cobra leather. My next highlight was about 5 drops of Cobra leather with one drop of white, and then I kept adding an additional drop of white to each highlight layer. Surprisingly, that only went up about 4 layers before there was just too much white in the mix. To get a smoother transition between highlight layers, I use Glaze Medium. That does two different things. The obvious one is thins the mix, the more important thing is that it helps the paint stay where your brush put it. That's the easiest way to NMM Gold, and I got that recipe from Boltman (GW's master of NMM) himself.
Thanks for the feedback! I actually do something similar. I use Applebarrell's Golden Brown and Pineapple (Pale Yellow) with white and blend up from there. I glaze with yellow ink and I actually use AP's Soft, Strong, and Dark washes. For me, it's more about finding the right mix of dark areas as opposed to the lighter ones. I've only been working on it for a few months now and you can see the slight improvements in Valkyrie over 8-Ball. 8-Ball was especially challenging due to his rounded area.
