If a HD+ drops a white noise (supportware) and wants to cancel it by running another supportware. Does the white noise get canceled by the ATTEMPT to run the supportware, or is it only canceled by the SUCESSFUL application of the supportware.

I had a game yesterday where we had and an intruder facing off an against an djanbzan. The Nomads dropped a whitenoise to block LOS so he could take something else else out so another model could flank the djanbzan. Subsequently he wanted to drop the white noise by dropping the white noise. He tried cybermasking but failed the role.We ruled it that the whitenoise was canceled, but were not sure.

White Noise isn't a Supportware, it is NFB, but yes you did it correctly because Cybermask is also NFB

Yes, you need to cancel first before you attempt to activate a skill that has NFB because it is the act of using the skill, not succeeding, that is governed by NFB. As for Supportware, see the yellow box that you'll find with each skill, second bullet point:

    • Hackers may voluntarily cancel an active Supportware program by declaring another and expending the corresponding Order.
