Hello All, I was using the Kriza Borac HMG over the weekend and I have a question about using BS Attack (-3). Does the rule only apply if the KB shoots at an enemy? The game situation I played was move+dodge with KB. The BS Attack (-3) skill means my opponent applies a -3 MOD to an opponent's BS Attack. This example, his ARO was BS Attack. We had a discussion about it. The BS Attack (-3) skill is similar to the N3 rule Full Auto. Which the skill only applied if the active trooper was performing a BS Attack. However, we could not find any rule explaining how BS Attack (-3) should work. Reading the RAW, I conluded that BS Attack (-3) should apply everytime my opponent declares an ARO of BS Attack, regardless of what skill the KB performs. Because the negative MOD applies to the enemy trooper's skill. So while I moved the KB, my opponent declared ARO BS Attack, then I declared Dodge; should my opponent reduce his BS succuess value by 3? Or, does it only apply if the KB declares BS Attack for the short skill? Any feedback is welcome.
Rule page 75. Modifiers Explained. "Any MOD or value in round brackets next to a Special Skill, Weapon, or Equipment—such as CC Attack (+3), Combat Jump (PH=10), BS Attack (+3), CC Weapon (PS=6), Combi Rifle (+1B), etc.—only applies when using the Skill, Weapon, or Equipment." "Negarive MODs for other skills ~ only apply during Face to Face Rolls". So, your understanding about BS Attack (-3) is wrong. "BS Attack (-3)" skill means when you use BS Attack, opponent gets -3 MOD to whatever FtF Rolls they do (BS attack, dodge, hacking, whatever).
Clearly spelled-out examples might help too? Default behavior of this rule: BS Attack (T2): When the user declares BS Attack, they (not the opponent) apply the T2 ammunition effect to their attack. Dodge (+3): When the user declares Dodge, they (not the opponent) apply a +3 MOD to their roll. Jump (8"): When the user declares Jump, they (not the opponent) travel 8" instead of the normal 6". When the (MOD) is negative: BS Attack (-3): When the user declares BS Attack, the opponent is at -3 to whatever their declared skill is, as long as it involves a FtF roll. Dodge (-3): When the user declares Dodge, the opponent is at -3 to whatever their declared skill is, as long as it involves a FtF roll.
