Breaking Bad – Ramah Taskforce going to the Dark Side

I've started a new project. It's Ramah Taskforce. But Sith.

Basically, like I did with my Construction Worker Neoterra army, I wanted to put a twist on my RTF. When I watched the Obi Wan Kenobi show on D+, I fell in love with the black-and-red outfits of the Inquisitors. So, I decided that it would be fun to paint Ramah, the most "good guys" of any faction in the game, in the colors of the most evil mfs from the Star Wars universe.

Here's what I've got so far, in the order I painted them:

I had some trouble staying interested in painting black, so I haven't added much more to these guys last month. But I did paint up something for the latest Bromad Academy painting contest. The theme was Peripherals, and there happens to be one pretty big Peripheral in Ramah Task Force:

To have a chance at winning the contest as well as to have fun painting so much fur, I decided to try out the famous undercoating technique from Craftworldstudio. The specific reference I used was this white wolf. Since they have a tutorial on him on their Patreon, I simply followed the steps, starting with a magenta and turquoise undercoat over white zenithal primer:



Since the tutorial didn't cover the metal parts, I was able to decide for myself what colour to give them. After having painted countless weapons in simple black NMM, I took the opportunity to not do that and use green highlights over red shadows instead:



All in all, I had tons of fun with this guy. Painting white from purple and turquoise was a real pleasure, compared to the chore it is usually to paint it from grey or cream.

To top it all off, my decision turned out to be spot-on since this guy actually won me the contest! There was some stiff competition, especially from this lovely guy, so I felt glad to win the judges' favor.

I use three different recipes for the black parts. And you are correct, one of them uses a very light blue glaze at the end.

I have finally painted the other half of the Carmen & Bâtard Duo. To stay with the Star Wars reference, I looked for a female mercenary I could emulate, and settled on Aurra Sing. Her motorcycle was painted like a speeder bike, in classic browns and blacks. In the end I almost ran out of different recipes for brown, since there were like 6 different shades I ended up applying. What do you think?

Another remote. As tedious as I find the fact that I have to paint new remotes for every new faction, painting these was actually quite enjoyable. The process consisted mainly of stippling and washing over an airbrush basecoat, which made it reasonably fast:




The curious thing is that through a number of circumstances, I have now painted every non-S2 model of the faction before I have painted almost any of the standard infantry. So to celebrate the occassion, the first group pic of my RTF features nothing but the big stuff:

 

Now that the bigger models are all done, I can finally start with some of the normal S2s. The first one is my HVT – the LabTech from the Crimson Stone Dire Foes. She's one of only two models remaining of my 2021 backlog. I painted her as an Imperial Officer (with admittedly more makeup than would befit such a station). That olive cloth was a nice palette cleanser after all those black and white edge highlights.

With my backlog from 2021 down to the last model, I couldn't resist bringing it down to zero. So here's the last mini I bought that year, Wild Bill.

Painted him like Cad Bane, since he will proxy a Beasthunter almost every time and he's wearing a cowboy hat:

Finally, here's the basic line infantry. Since I didn't have a specific reference for my Ghulam, I just made them black all over with no light sources or red parts to indicate their status as basic infantry.

The female Ghulam was converted to a hacker with one of the spare arms from the Hatail spec ops.

Also, gave one of them a blue face because Star Wars...

 

Here's my warcor. Since I was missing a dedicated model, I simply repainted my Tunguskan warcor (have enough warcor proxies for my Nomads anyway).

As a reference, I decided to use Orson Krennic from Rogue One. The outfit kinda matched, even though the face looks much more like Baylon Skoll.
