If a remote with marksmanship 2 shoots against dart, his ammo gains shock. This gives two questions. One, does his ammo type count as normal + shock, assuming that bioimmunity then doesn't let me choose to roll bts (since normal ammo applies) or does it count as shock alone? Second question, if it counts as normal + shock, can I turn off marksmanship 1, to ignore the shock ammo, but keeping the benefit to ignore the penalty to cd from cover? Thanks!
Marksmanship 1 and 2 are separate skills with separate effects, you can absolutely use one but not the other. If you did take leave of your senses and decide to use MM1 vs a trooper with Bioimmunity it would be 1 roll and your opponent's choice of ARM or BTS.
Good, now to the first part, suppose I am an idiot, or I divide the burst between dart and someone else, I understand that everything must be made with the same ammo types. Does it count as normal + shock (I assume it makes me roll arm only, because of the normal ammo requirements) or as shock alone, and I may choose to roll bts? Thanks!
Hmm, that's an interesting one as the rules only cover combining special ammunition, a category that does not include Normal ammo. I can see two answers: 1) Normal is treated the same as Special Ammunition for the purposes of combing ammo types, so you would be forced to make an ARM roll. 2) Special ammo types override/replace Normal ammo allowing a roll on ARM or BTS. I personally lean towards the second as it feels cleaner and simpler, but can see arguments both ways.
it is shock only, not normal plus shock. the rule being : The benefits of Shock Special Ammunition granted by Marksmanship are added to any other Special Ammunitions employed by the BS Weapon. So if you were shooting AP, you now shoot AP+Shock. But Normal is not a special ammo. So if you were shooting Normal, it turns into Shock ammo. edit: also on that last point, the faq says if you have AP+Shock and Bioimmunity, it turns Shock into normal. And while you should be able to chose BTS or ARM, because it is combined with AP it then is compulsory to Roll with ARM, not BTS.
By that same rule, I can argue that it adds shock to any other SPECIAL AMMO. No special ammo, no shock added. It is against the way we play, but not against the rules as written. Aaah, my head hurts.
Right... i'll expand my reasoning then. Introducing the first rule, is that in addition to the usual ammo, you also have Shock. In addition to their usual Ammunition, all BS Weapons wielded by the user have Shock Special Ammunition. Meaning, if you only have Normal, you now have the choice of Normal or Shock (choose one). If you had a multi rilfe and your choice was AP/Shock, DA, or Stun, you now have the choice of AP/shock, DA, Stun, or Shock. Choose one. Same, for a ML, you had Exp, or AP+Exp, you can choose between Exp, AP+Exp, or Shock. the second rule is what allows you to combine it with special ammo. So with a Multi Rifle, you can choose DA, and combine Shock resulting in DA+Shock. But the 2nd rule doesn't let you combine shock to Normal.
