Suppose the reactive player has a unit Bob watching a narrow alley between buildings. The active player's unit Alice declares a move order to go from total cover on one side of the alley to total cover on the other side, without stopping. Does Bob get an ARO, e.g. BS Attack? He's outside of ZoC, so that doesn't apply. My understanding of the rules would be that he doesn't, since he won't have LoF at the time that Alice declares her move order I'm new to the game. So, please forgive me for this basic question and point to a thread somewhere if it exists already.
You can ARO at any point along the enemy's movement path, so anyone who sees her at any point during her movement path gets an ARO. You can use the Cautious Move skill to avoid this.
If the Reactive Trooper can see any part of the whole path of movement of the Active Trooper, they can ARO on him, choosing the spot along the path to their preference (e.g. completely out of cover in the middle of the alley). Like here:
If the active model wants to avoid ARO in this example, it would need to use the Cautious Movement skill.
If you're a new player, please have a look at the "Example of Movement" in the General Movement Rules (wiki link here: https://infinitythewiki.com/General_Movement_Rules ) which is a variant of this situation, but it's the same principles: a model starts and ends a movement in total cover (starting out of LoF behind a corner, and ending out of LoF behind a corner), gaining LoF in the middle of the move. As shown in the example, both troopers get to take advantage of the LoF created by the movement, and neither is limited by where the trooper is "currently".
Got it. I can see why the example in the wiki is the same principle. I'm just playing Code One, currently, but I'll keep Cautious Movement in mind for N4. Thanks!
