Now Achilles V1 for the same cost of the old haven't frenzy; the V2 have frenzy but have a cost discount and gain ap spitfire. A lot of player thinks that now the V2 is better, but I'm not sure. Now the V1 without frenzy can always have the bonus of cover (so -9 bs malus and arm7; -12 bs in cover + suppressive); moreover now that odd is mimetism -6 he can't lose the -3 bonus for the fire sensitive (or at least I didn't find it written, can you confirm me?). I'd like to have your opinion on the two versions.
I still believe the non frenzy version is a unfinished profile. Assuming they are both as they should be I have no pull to take the more expensive version, ap spitfire is such an upgrade, especially with the projected rise of heavy infantry and armour in general. The big thing, like you said is to be able to sit him on a corner to hold, but if I'm taking big man Achilles I want him going on a rip, and the extra impetuous orders and higher base armour helps a lot with that.
For N3, V1 and V2 were a close call in favor of V1 my book. Things in favor of V1 were Multiterrain and the FTF advantage of having an ODD. Things in favor of V2 were FD 4" and ARM6. That was with ODD having the downside of getting burnt off by Fire Ammo. With N4, Mimetism (-6) can't be removed any more and 2 ARM more is significantly better thanks to the Crit changes. On top of that the Profile is 11 points cheaper, got an AP Spitfire and gained an upgrade for the D.E.P.->PZF. That's a massive swing for V2, which pulls ahead by a lot as a result.
Having constant access to cover now on his ODD version is amazing though. He may lose the impetuous order boost but he gets a lot more durable like this.
Frenzy is a little nastier now because it kicks in at the end of the current Active Turn, rather than at the start of your next.
It isn’t. And once v2 has wounded someone*, he’s ‘6BS’ easier to hit than v1. *At the end of that turn, as colbrook points out.
Good to know on it being final, it's not like there's not an argument for both, going to have to spend a lot more time with Aleph. Much more appeal over spiral in N4
Personally, I'd choose the Achilles depending on what do you want to do with him. The ninja version seems more suited for firefights and maneuvering, saving his melee prowess for emergencies, and preferring the spitfire profile, while the Hoplite is, as it was in N3 (in my opinion), a melee missile, with the Spitfire profile as a trap, since you'll want to close and bash heads, saving the Panzerfaust for ARO and using the MULTI as needed, but now dodging is an option in both active and reactive turns because of the bonus movement.
