A little dip into QK...

    My local store was running a small event for new players this weekend, and I volunteered to act as a "ringer" in case of odd numbers. As a more experienced player, I decided to take Qapu Khalqi out for the first time ever rather than take a faction I've been practicing a while.

    In the end I played two games - Acquisition and Frostbyte, dropping out for the third round as a player had to leave early. The list did pretty well, scoring two 5-3 wins. In the first game I deployed both Yuan Yuan at the start, while in the second I kept one back as a drop troop and used it to take out a Zenit that had dodged prone after being shot through smoke by my Djanbazan.

    I was surprised at how effective the list was. While it's definitely not a strong faction, and either vanilla Haqq or another Sectorial is probably going to do better in the current meta, I don't think you should write QK off as unplayable. There's definitely some options here!

    I've been interested in QK for a while, primarily because they can do what Spiral was prhaps meant to - play a complex holomask game with fake threats to encourage misdeploys and hidden threats to attack from unexpected angles. QK's fireteam compositions are extremely permissive for the Hafza, and I think it could be fun to build up some experience with them.

    Last weekend I too played QK in a fun game (Rescue) against MO. It was a 0:0 tie as my Al'Hawwa FO with a rescued HVT was killed by his Corsair Bashi and I managed to unalive his AD Santiago with my last ARO pistol shot from my Al'Hawwa before he was able to rescue one of his HVTs.

    This was my All comers list. I am thinking of Leila switching places with the core Hafza HRL as I was lacking a Specialist in the core. And I had far to few Specialists at all. Maybe switching an Al'Hawwa Sniper for a FO to get another button pusher into the list.
    The Haris was supposed to do ARO duty while the Core should advance. Fiddler and the Al'Hawwa FO should press buttons and the Bashi + YuanYuans sow chaos behind enemy lines. As I did not know what Mission I was playing, I was very glad to get another Bashi for free :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

    We had a rather dense table with very few long shooting lanes on ground level. But I was able to set up the Haris in group 1 in an elevated position so the Sekban and the Azra'il were able to do a shoot out against the enemy KotHS and both survived until the end of the game, costing my opponent way more orders than he expected. I tried to drop my YuanYuans behind his troops but was only successfull 1/3 of the time - but this one was able to take out 2 enemy troopers with his Chainrifle. One of the other YuanYuans was even able drop a Teutonic knight with his HMG (Booty roll ftw!).
