Hey guys! I've read the rules that are already available online. Overall It seems like a great start for the wargame and congratulations to Hoopoe and the Team. It looks like a ton of work :) A few remarks: 1. 250 points feel like about 10 models per side. It looks like a good way to start the system until all 6 factions have a starter+beyond box. However, it will take some time for the games to offer more list-building options for the players. Understandable, as starting a new system takes a lot of resources (and risk involved). I wonder if this will be expanded to the rumoured 20-25 models per side, but I do not know if the activation system and 36x36 tables could handle larger amount of troops while keeping the tactics interesting. 2. There is not a lot of special skills and keywords listed in the rulebook. I hope this will not be too limiting, but again, feels like a safe direction to take at the start of making the system and awaiting more player feedback. 3. I wonder how will balancing work in the future as all parameters are on unit cards. I do not see an issue personally buying a new card deck for my faction, after a 'balance' patch takes place in the future. 4. I miss a little that ability switches do not have names (makes it cheaper to translate, QA and print localized versions probably). They seem like a nice thematic option to add names to them to add a bit of description to the units fighting capabilities. 5. Was hoping a bit that units will have tokens and you will plan their activiations ahead kinda like what you do in Aristeia. I understand why it's not being used though. 6. Scenarios look similar to what we had in Infinity (objective and control based). I also love that we might have additional events and neutral forces taking part. 7. Infinity made is easy to play also in interiors. I hope Warcrow will also enable us to move inside taverns, climb ladders etc, but it does not seem to support this fully atm. I do not know if and how the game takes into account Verticality as I did not see any jump actions, falling etc. 8. You can premeasure everything and charged/ranged weapons have a set number without any variables. I wonder how will this work in the competitive scene, where people will premeasure to be just outside the enemies charge range all the time. Personally I can't decided between the Northern Tribes and Syennan Elves. I wonder as my gaming group is desperately awaiting news of other factions before committing. I hope this will not effect the preorders too much. We will preorder the rulebooks, one friend wants to get the Hegemony. Possibly we'll preorder the starter if somebody also decides on the Northern Tribes. How do you like the rules so far? Do they meet your expectations? Thanks for reading and any replies :) Lets warm up this forum a bit as the game is closer to pre-ordering.
I have comments on some points. 1) 250 points looks to be closer to 15-20 minis, Winds of the North is ~100 points per side. 2) Special Skills will mostly be on unit cards, so don't need to be in the rulebook. 3) They are working on an online army builder, so they'll be able to make changes there and you should hopefully be able to print the new cards for your list from there. 6) Scenarios also determine how many activations you have per turn which can make them play very differently IMO. 7) Terrain is effectively 2D, elevation doesn't play any real role in the game and LoS is determined base to base, only stopped by other units or a terrain piece with the "Blocks LoS" trait. Warcrow isn't a true line of sight/3D silhouette game like Infinity.
Colbrook: 1) 250 points looks to be closer to 15-20 minis, Winds of the North is ~100 points per side. I checked the cards available in the Press Kit. Both the Orcs and Hegemony are 170pts each: Alborc 50 Evoker 25 Wisemane 15 Hunters 20x4 = 80pts (though ava 3?) It seems that with Beyond boxes which contain 1 character and 2 extra models, it may go up to 250, and that's 10 models. 7) Terrain is effectively 2D, elevation doesn't play any real role in the game and LoS is determined base to base, only stopped by other units or a terrain piece with the "Blocks LoS" trait. Warcrow isn't a true line of sight/3D silhouette game like Infinity. We'll see how it'll work. Maybe was hoping for a more LoS options connected with climbing and hiding inside the first floor buildings as we have some nice terrain from Battle Systems.
20 points gets you a unit of 4 Hunters/Bucklerpeople, you can take up to three units, for a total of 12 individual minis. At the moment unit sizes are determined by how many come in the box, but it'll be explicit when the app launches
Where is this stated? I seem to be able to find AVB3 that means 3 units. But i'm not able to find that a unit is 4 men. Can unit be grouped? 3x 4 men or 1x12 men is an option?
Hoopoe and V have been answering questions in the Warcrow Discord as it has been quite active. Units are fixed size, so Bucklerpeople are 4 strong, no more, no less. Dwarf Rangers are always in pairs, etc. Edit: Also page 4 of the PDF
I searched that but i didn't see that line, thanks! Anyway, a reminder of the number of model count of a Unit will be useful in the future. You should not be required to keep in mind such a, information or having to keep all of the boxes
I love the neutral forces and events being a built-in part of scenarios! Definitively something that makes me want to pick up the game. The rules are interesting, but I need rules for forces before I can start really getting a feel for the game.
