In mid-April there will be a tournament in our area in this format: 400 point limited insertion with at least a TAG in the list. Direct action missions to keep things simple and maximum carnage. Our group has been practicing but I've only played one game so far. Making lists in this format suddenly opens up possibilities that I normally wouldn't consider, such as Hulang or Leigong. Because what else are you going to spend points on for a limited insertion 400 point list? I wanted to put all the YJ TAGs I own into the list. The tournament is for fundraising and not serious anyway. I would always want to go first with this list and made it so that I won't get my orders stripped first turn. 400 TAG no stripping ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10 3 DĀOYĪNG (Lieutenant [+1 Order], Hacker, Hacking Device) Boarding Shotgun ( ) / Breaker Pistol, CC Weapon. I won the Lt roll and went first. First thing I did was dropping Liu Xing hacker into a cluster of Iguana (back turned), Gecko, clockmaker, and Valeria (out of LOF but in hacking range). Everyone survived Liu Xing's exploding combat jump. He took 4 AROs but they either missed or he tanked them. I thought it would be pretty funny to just leave him there for my opponent to deal with on his turn. Guijia took care of both Geckos pretty easily, taking a wound in the process. I then focused on the mission (we played Superiority). The rest of the game was pretty bloody. Lei Gong parachuted in on my second turn and took care of Valeria. But on my opponent's turn a series of unlucky dice rolls saw all my TAGs and ARO pieces go down. The game ended top of turn 3 with me in retreat, which worked out in my favour as we actually ended in a tie after counting up points. As an inexperienced player I find that all the decisions I made to include tools and skills during list construction went out the window when I play the game. Like I completely forgot that Blue Wolf has panzerfaust (my opponent was wondering what I was saving if for, lol). I also forgot that Longwang has NCO, and that the Mech Engineer has deployable cover. When I went into retreat I forgot that the TAG pilot has courage, and I forgot that I could use my last command token to cancel the engineer's retreat state to grab the two closest zones to me. That could have won me the game! That was extremely fun, and I can't wait to play some more.
The last one had to be his Lt, since none of the others can be one. Given the points left, I'd guess it was one of the Mobile Brigada Lt profiles (exactly which one depends on which Sombra profiles did he use). That being said, I have a problem with this format: it excludes some armies (can't field a tournament-legal "mandatory TAG" list if your army has no TAGs available. This applies to TAK, CHF and USAriadna).
Yes, that's the one - Mobile Brigada Lt. We did discuss this format within our community precisely because it excludes some army. Fortunately, our CHA player also have OSS and just got into Next Wave. As I said, it's meant to be a light-hearted, stomping giant robots fundraising event for local school programs.
Sounds fun! For Ariadna I'd say just make the Chernobog and/or Anaconda available to all Ariadna factions.
