Vaulsc here, you guys may know my YT channel, just posting about my last event for those who prefer to read a bit of a summary rather than spend hours watching images. If you aren't familiar with the YT content though, go to the end of this post for the link.

We don't have a huge scene in New Zealand but last weekend's event had 16 players which is pretty big for us. The missions were:

    1. Transmission Matrix
    2. Acquisition
    3. Safe Area
    4. Supplies
    5. Hunting Party
I wanted to run something that would defend really well whenever I took second turn, so having a lot of high value models in hidden deployment really appealed, as did the 3x Noctifer Missile launchers in the first list, Sphinx/2x Noctifer Missiles in the second. Knowing that I'd have to go first at some point though, I would need something to put the pressure on, this would be Sheskiin/Speculo in list1 or just the limited insertion Sphinx might in list2. My style is really all about turn order--I know a lot of people love to just pick table side/deployment but that's not really how I do things. Here are the exact lists:

    -------------------------------------

Honestly, I normally wouldn't recommend going with 12 orders total, it's far better to either commit fully to limited insertion so that you can avoid losing 2-orders when going first against the command token, or to go for 14-16 orders so that your second group can be efficient. But the strategy for this particular list is to set traps and counter-attack, I'll be going second wherever possible. The Noctifers in #2 can be brought over to #1 to add their orders later in the game, or, if you do see a golden opportunity, you could even move the Noctifer in #1 over to #2 if they're all on the table in marker state at the start of the game and use them in a devastating co-ordinated order strike!

Sheshkiin makes a really excellent data tracker and is usually on shock ammunition duty alongside bit. Everything else in the list basically is out of necessity. One of the other main reasons I'm running Shasvastii this time around is the Aswang LT--such a safe choice when defending, really hard to hunt down in Hunting Party and he's relatively affordable.

The Sphinx will be a good choice when I'm not up against too many jammers/hackers, but also when the table has a bit of verticality and some decent buildings to climb on top of. In general though, this list is designed for safe area. All of my TO/Camo troops are capable of moving into the zones which are going to swing the game the most for that huge 4-objective point grab at the end.

    --------------------------------

First game was against Nomads, it was looking fairly dangerous given I was up against an intruder, but luckily my opponent didn't see the missiles coming and went for a co-ordinated order to put up suppression fire in line of sight of them all... this ended poorly. Then I found out that the Intruder only had an HMG instead of a MSR and ended up getting out-ranged by the noctifers anyway. 10-0 win after Sheshkiin easily moved around to clean up and datatrack the enemy designated target. Speculo did most of the transmission matrix scoring work, and even though bit/kiss didn't hold up against the interventor hacking onslaught, that didn't really effect the game.

Game two against Haqqislam, but my opponent was new to infinity even though he had been my number one rival (and great friend) during my Warmachine/Hordes years. I got myself into trouble when one of his Ghazi's got lucky enough to jam both Sheshkiin AND Dr.Worm, meaning my final turn push onto the mid objective in Acquisition would be very tough. Luckily things turned around when my Noctifer pulled a clutch upset F2F win against the Djanbazan HMG (during haqq turn) and Worm used his little irregular isolation order to pull Sheshkiin out of jail. After that, it was all on Agent Snakelady who didn't dissapoint, shredding Haqq units in the final turn to move onto the objective for a 7-2 win.

Third game was against another player who doesn't play infinity a whole lot, but who has been highly successful in several other wargaming systems in our country. He had vanilla Ariadna on Safe Area so it was time for me to roll out the Sphinx. I was fortunate enough to win the roll and take 2nd, but he attacked immediately with a Dog Soldier and Galwegian straight into my cheerleaders. The Noctifers and Sphinx were forced out of hiding just to try and slow him down, but by the end of the turn I was already 4 models down (out of 10). Luckily though, the remaining 6 models were a combined 200+ points and he had lost two key attacking units. The Sphinx punched back to remove his tankhunter, and when Van Zant appeared, he made a fairly rookie error which was to go straight for the Sphinx which didn't work out to well in terms of 3dice 10's vs 1dice 17's odds. I had the fateful final turn and it wasn't too hard to just see how many points of ariadna he had in each quadrant and simply move however many points of Shasvastii into the right zones to beat him (see my YT video for a rant about intelcom mechanics though).

Fourth game saw the two remaining undefeated players paired up, myself against Alphz who you may know on this forum, using the newly secessionist JSA. Sadly, he won the LT roll and went for first turn on Supplies. This meant he could just throw smoke to block Noctifer LOS, then using Saito and the Kuroshi LT specialist to grab two supply boxes straight away. I hit back with a Speculo to knock out his Rui Shi and part of his link team, but Bit/Kiss weren't doing to well with WIP checks that were meant to get the third supply box. Things started to go very badly when an oniwaban appeared from superior infiltration to move through my lines to assassinate Sheshkiin, although there were better decisions I could have made in ARO to slow him down, which I didn't make unfortunately. In the final turn, I was almost able to claw back a draw by killing Saito with my Aswang (Saito drops the supply box) and pick up my box with Bit, making it 1-1 for supplies, but I didn't have enough orders to catch up on classifieds, because Bit wasted much of the turn failing box WIP checks. Was something like a 2-4 loss.

Final game against my most regular practice opponent, Hexa. His Haqqislam would let me take FIRST turn for Hunting party, so I eliminated his ghulam sniper with the speculo and then moved a noctifer all the way around into his deployment zone! It climbed a building and then fired over at his Maghariba guard, stripping a STR point from it. Sadly, in the Haqq active turn, the TAG risked a F2F roll 8's on 4d vs 15 on 1d (yikes) because he had no cover while I did----but luckily won and removed the noct. Later, Sheshkiin was able to fully charge out, risking everything as she raised her Red Fury and mowed down a Lasiq sniper, Hunzakut, Ghazi, the Engineer, and most importantly, the TAG itself. This also enabled her to hunt down a specialist with the stun pistol. Elsewhere, an Al'hawwa was trying to take on the Shasvastii back line but got picked up by a maestro from bit for his trouble, allowing me to pistol stun hunt down him as well. By then it was about over, Sheshkiin had finally fallen but Bit/kiss were able to move onto an objective.

4-1 games, 2nd place. Check out the video series for a much more detailed breakdown, with images.

Big fan of your channel and really enjoy your bat reps. After seeing your shasvastii videos I may just be branching from onyx and vanilla CA into shasvastii. I really like the alpha list and just may be giving sheskiin a couple plays soon.

I was testing some SEF lists in preparation to the tournament and when your videos camo out.
I've decided to basically copy your lists and see what I can pull off.
Missions are a bit different but not too much in terms of general Shasvastii strategy
(Decapitation, TicTacToe, Power pack, supremacy and Unmasking)

Yeah I think the lists can probably do those missions! Especially if the firelanes are relatively open so you can make it really hard for your opponent to move out onto the objectives.

Ok, here is short summary. It was a day 1 tournament due to lack of participants. Played 3 missions (decapitation, supremacy and power pack). Tournament was using TOP system from Interplanetary (TOP 4 in our case).
    I was not in TOP.
Won agains corregidor on 2 Intruders in decap. Sheskin is a beast ate a bandit in CC and just killed everything she can reach. Noctifers blew up Intruders :) 10-5 my victory.

Won against Aleph with Marut. Table had 2 big hangars, so Sphinx was on top of one and nobody could reach him at all. 5-4

In the final against Aconticimento - devastating loss 0-10, but that was final - so I got guaranteed 2nd place :)

Most of my mistakes was - when to open noctifers. That's a thing to master for me. It's very fun to fire multiple missiles on coordinate recamo/suppression fire

Nice one! I live in fear of Noctifiers... They're the Infinity unit that makes me most nervous, because the lose:lose when facing them is so great. If you anticipate them, they still cost you Orders either Smoking or Cautious moving. If you don't anticipate them, then... Well, we know what happens.

Running three of them is a pretty legitimate reason to sit in that awkward space between a Limited Insertion list and that ~15 Order threshold.

Nice to see someone running Shas and doing great work with them as well!

Nice to hear you scored well with shasvastii in a competition.

Your will while building this list must have been to troll to death your ennemies but i’ll give a try to this kind of list :D sounds funny

I personnaly like to troll ennemies with 2x speculoo + noctifer ml but it’s too subtile

I also took a double noctifer missile list to a local tourney this weekend, 3-0 so not too shabby. Although I'm not bold enough as VaulSC to run double ML Nocts in a Sphinx list. Nothing better than dropping a EXP plate on a full order target that's "safe".

My dirty trick is splashing the template onto nearby models using the active model when it walks down narrow alleys or around corners and cuts to close to unactivated friendlies. It doesn't matter if the active model dodges as long as you land the hit.

Yep, that's core to maximise what your Noctifers can accomplish. Watching for likely enemy lines of advance, especially warbands, is key.

My personal best outside of splashing links was to drop out of hidden deployment to catch a Kriza Borac in a bad range band, splash the camoflaged Intruder HMG standing next to him, and kill both with the shot.

Thats how both Intruders died in a game vs Corregidor..... and a Proxi sniper that wanted to Recamo....

@Vaulsc oh dude, your Alpha list is awesome, today I tried it on one of the treason missions, the armory ... at the end of the first turn there were not only 2 walls left standing between the zanying haris of my rival having volatilized one of the two launchers zanying the haris exposed, i run just 1/3 noctifer to kill 1 zanying ML for free and giving to me that order to run a cooordinated attack on my fierst turn game, ready to kill the last zhanying ML, after to broken the wall in my front having more line of fire on the open for this noctifers trio.

I ended up placing 1 pitcher, a Shrouded with HMG and smoke grenades by looting table and put in fire suppression covering in front on the enemy deployment, so the interior with 2 mines and all noctifers ready for the ARO turn, awesome. Nobody has entered or appeared ... in the last turn and to do something my rival has gone to kill with the core of 2 cranes in the open, I only lost the shrouded falling to the dead, but since my third and last turn after to killling the first crane in ARO and on my active turn run to my last coordinated fire attack on the unliked team stacked in the open, it was enough for me the speculo already shone and sheeskin ended up scoring again inside.

Those extra 25pts for carrying CA autobonus have served to me, for have another FO shrouded in the first group and directly passing the 3 noctifers to the second group on the start deployment.
