My play style generally relies on bringing more than 20 orders and just drowning my opponent in dice. I'm trying to teach myself to be a better player instead of relying on those kinds of tactics, but am having trouble trying to pull it off. At a major tournament last weekend I only came away with one win out of five games using some variation on this list, and am looking for advice as to what to add or what I should be taking away from anyone with a bit more experience.

The main issue I had was being order starved. I only went first in a single game, and in the others I found myself starting my first turn with only five or six orders (due to the two TO Camo models) which made it nearly impossible to get anything done.

Can anyone see any obvious failings here or give me some ideas what I need to change?

DaoFei + Ninja work well toghether as CAMO markers, trolling your opponent in thinking about a Guilang Minelayer. And you get one more order.

With 10 order lists, my first choice is ALWAYS to remove the TR Remote. And not only with YJ, with all armies. It NEVER survives the first turn if you do not go first. It's the first nail in your coffin.

For a "massacre" list, it's not so bad, but your specialists are squishy Zhanshi... You should consider a more stable platform, even a humble Zuyong.
And if you bring a Doc/Eng, never leave home without a YaoZao or two. They are the best friends of Koalas and Mines.

I really like the making the Daofei Lt. and then using the Hac Tao to become the Lt.

But I think Sun Tze could be pretty helpful here. He gives you and extra order and Command. He’s really not that bad of an HI too. I just wish there were cheaper CoC than the Pheasant Agent.

You set up defensively if you lose first turn, but if you have first turn you can usually deploy smoke and let your Hsien murder whatever important units they left sitting out, and you have a lot of 'pre-positioned' specialists to push buttons, so that's more order efficient.

The Hac Tao is the other attack option, and I use him if the enemy doesn't give my Hsien targets, I can just push the Hac tao up, and then set up a nasty combo of units in the midfield to stop the enemy moving up.

Admittedly, I haven't gotten as many games in at full size, as my meta is still developing, but the general gist of it has worked reasonably well so far.

If you had missions that focused on quadrant control, I'd swap the ninja for a Tiger soldier, but I usually run the ninja to push buttons, even though I like the Tiger Soldier better in general.

I really don't use a Hac Tao much. Too spendy for something that starts in your DZ, unless you give it an HMG or ML. Though apparently it has some entertaining value combo'd with Lunah, since anyone who tries to take out Lunah with something big gets the rude surprise of a TO heavy weapon.

You can always directly swap your Ninja KHD for a Kanren KHD to salvage that extra order, they're both 29 points.

I am really feeling the loss of the Tokusetsu, since I could stuff an 8pt REM into a list with them but have to drop to the MultiHMG for some approximation of my usual lists:

The Daofei and two Guilang are all deployed within 8" of each other, so that there are 4 camo markers in the middle of the table for your opponent to play YJ Roulette with. The Ninja KHD gets Hidden Deployed in that same area to provide protection to the Daofei (openly deploying a Kanren there will probably make it obvious which camo marker is the Daofei, since a KHD needs to be almost on top of the AHD it's protecting).

There are three different spots you can deploy the Guilang sniper: farthest forward, to shoot back towards your own DZ. Farthest back, to put shots into the opponents DZ. Or opposite the Yan Huo, to put shots on people trying to close on the YH while he does the same for your Guilang. Once your opponent is used to you deploying in one of those spots, that's when you start putting the Mine there.

Yan Huo takes the other side of the board, but I'm not sure how well this will work with the M-HMG instead of the HRMC. Burst 5 won me a lot of firefights. It does give you a much better ARO, however.

Doc and Engineer hide in the backfield and watch your DZ.

The Weibing gets to be a speedy specialist, plus has Sensor (and Sniffers to drop in ARO if they're not shooting at you), to reveal opposing TO.

Some tricks i learned in LI:

-In IL i usually pick at least two madtraps and one guilang minelayer to decimate the order pool of your oponent if you go second. ( XI was the best but a kanren may work)

-The Yuan Huo/Hac Tao misile launcher also works pretty well with some medic support. They may fall but are hard to take unless you play against tanhunters and the damage against links is pretty high ( work at 100 against heavy link sectorials like SSA and Tohaa, it may not kill that much but your oponen will spend a lot of orders to get in a secure shot position). At same time if they go null it fall prone and you can heal it.

-You shouldn't make more than one hidden deployment or DA troop to start with 9 orders on table.

-If you face the EC you will eat some avatar, in IL always think how you will take it down ( sadly kitsune + Sun is not possible). The Su Jian shotgun shines in this role. Also the Lu Dan + Assault hacker support + Ninja CC works. The other way is to go rambo and clean as many orders ypu can from your oponent and hide very well, but is a very risky option in IL.

-Try to avoid normal Zhansi unless you want hidden leutinent, with 10 orders they tend to be more focused as easy targets.

-I never pick more than two +50 point models, this let you space to get remotes ( rui shi if you don't have the Hsien) this tipical 20-30 point porfiles Yu Jing have ( from guilangs to imperial agents).

-it hurts but pick one smoke source, always. It may save you a full round letting you pass for the short way without eating ARO from the tipical carry. The celestial guard is the most tipical but a Shaolin can be worth, he is irregular but with the impetuos + irregular ypu have 2 smoke free, and you can still pick Sun Tze.

-Sensor bot or crane are gold if ypu face Ariadna in IL, in a solo group they can go full camo or the worst, full camo + ARO blackjack xD.

-Last one, always have a MSV2, this is good dor normal lists but in IL against some armies it beacome gold. ( Without kamikase warband and visors the only way more or less easy to kill a myrmidon team is with the tipical mine in active.

-Against big guys in close range use CC, a ninja o a Shaolin in cc against a tag or a heavy IP can be a easy but order expensive kill. Sometimes it's worth to just get in CC and use the order pool with someone else. Let your oponent waste orders in CC against you or shoting to you CC model with the -6 from shoting into CC ( and -6 if its a ninja).

Good luck commandet, the Yu Jing trust you

Ps: to follow the other users way here there is a list that i used on a IL tournement for decapitation and kill misions. The other one, for pushing objectives wasn't that sucesfull... XD

I really like this idea! Sun Tze is a very easy swap for the Hac Tao, and removes several problems at once- the extra order on the table plus turning his extra one into a Regular order as well should go some distance in mitigating the problems in the list.

This is true, but it usually makes my opponent waste half his turn trying to remove it. Few people in my local meta take CH:Camouflage or CH: TO Camouflage, so I rarely have to deal with the usual Surprise Shot MULTI-Sniper kicking it off the board in their first or second order.

I've never actually considered that use of them. I'll have to consider it, I usually like abusing co-ordinated orders which I wouldn't be able to do by taking them.

Personal experience is basically the same. If you deploy it far on one flank away from the rest of your models it can occasionally get some interesting rear arc damage going, but most of the time it actually really only serves as an expensive provision against LT assassinations.

I've found the Hsien HMG Lt to be absurdly good at just murdering everything that doesn't start in total cover, lately he's been on an absolute tear.

Dunno if it is just luck or what, but last few games I've played he's done the job largely solo.

I should have prefaced my post by saying I've never used Sun Tze myself. I only just got the sniper one to actually be Le Muet. I also converted the head to have a helmet. But I have seen Sun Tze at work. The WIP 17 Flash Pulse is not joke. But I didn't see him do that much. To some that might seem a bit of a waste.

In my games tonight, I just had an EO Hac Tao with HMG kill an entire Domaru/Tanko fireteam Core by himself, in one turn of shooting.

I love the Hac Tao so very much.

Wow! Did Lady Luck give you her blessing or something? Or did the link team not have a ML in it?

Then again, they were shooting back at -9, just from TO and cover...

Chain rifles don't do too good at hitting 18 inches away :P So the domaru were shooting using pistols, and yeah, he'd already used the blitzen on one Tanko, so he only got 2 dice on the ML, and 2 on the other blitzen, and after that he was at -12.

I was hitting on 17s with 4 dice. :P I had relatively good odds, and yeah, he didn't roll any crits.

So yeah, I was in cover, in an optimal range band, and he was not in cover.

The advantages of a hidden deployment HI is that the enemy can't prepare for them... so they sometimes leave themselves in positions that, well, suck.

Also, amusingly, he killed my LT but the Hac Tao got to reveal itself at the end of his turn in an ARO, so I was able to dodge LoL.
