It will mean we are going to loose the next campaign. And CB will writte a worst fluff, even more worst that we can imagine. If we have to choose damage, we should take the smallest damage
External factors do come in. Having the CA at the doors of the Human Sphere, coupled with a coordinated campaign and civil disturbances (NOT military) could convince YJ that the best option would be to release the Japanese in, for example, Svalarheima or another place where they can force them to pay a toll for that land in raw materials (teseum and the like) for decades. Erh... Why? Space? Space travel? Sure, habitable planets are rare, and habitable planets with strange metals even more so. But the territory can be a collection of uninhabited systems, with just mining colonies/stations and nation-claiming buoys, the Circulars do not visit even rarely. I would be really surprised no nation has any of those, but seeing how Teseum is so fight over in a planet (while asteroid mining is easier) I'd say the idea was never taken into account. Or that the Teseum is a very rare metal related to the exploiting of Tzechi digestors, dunno. There can be violence everywhere. There just don't need to be army violence. Sure, the players won't be involved. But I fail to see where have been the players involved in Uprising... They are, fluff-wise, more or less Judge Dredd, and they answer only to the Emperor, tasked with keeping criminal elements and dissidents in check. Or an attempt into "Infinity IS grey! There are no good guys here!". I'd refer you to little conundrum: who is a better samurai, the one that serves an wicked, honorless master even knowing it, or the one who rebels against such a master? Dammed if you do, dammed if you don't. That problem you mention is, precisely, why CB has dropped the ball so hard this time.
I dunno, having just seen how the State Army performs in the book I feel like being euthanased would be better for everyone.
They did write off a unit of one of PanO's best profiles, the Bagh Mari, just to jerk off how dangerous Jethro is. I certainly didn't like reading about whole units of Tigers being wiped out to jerk off how dangerous ReferenceSquad 9 is so I could understand it if they got upset over it. Likewise Order Sergeants serve as mooks in Outrage. At least the Santiago is tough though, seems like Invincible Army can only score Pyrrhic victories against keisotsu in Uprising.
Outrage didn't come with all the additional baggage in both fluff and crunch. Pano hadn't just come off getting rekt twice in the global campaigns either
I remember Bostria talking about the Santiago Knight sequence specifically during the Outrage preview. Comment is at 3:35 in the video below: It turns out that Corvus Belli had some oversight during the writing of the manga to ensure that there was some logical consistency in what Knauf was capable of. Spoilers on how the sequence plays out in the manga: Spoiler Crucially, Knauf does not defeat the Santiago Knight and makes it pretty clear that he pretty much can't. "This is a fucking knight, not some hick miner or mob goon!" "I'm not going to make it and he knows it!" Emily is able to distract the Knight which allows Knauf to disengage and escape. The Knight is completely manhandling Knauf up until this point.
I didn't read outrage (now that title seems more apt for "uprising" than for a comic) and now I know why. Although it's got nothing to do with the "episode 1" levels of nerdrage about it. I didn't read it because it looked like just another one dimensional comic book - only lacking lycra and capes for the most part.
Nah it's pretty good, worth it for the art alone. It definitely squanders some of it's potential but that's hardly a fair criticism of something's total quality. Plus it was really good value for a comic and a figure. I definitely do not regret picking it up at all, whereas the only thing that's kept me from cancelling my Uprising order is the Brawler model.
Seconding @the huanglong here, I don't regret picking up Outrage at all. I was expecting a dumb manga sidestory and instead I got a solid storyline, and a manga depiction of quite a few Infinity units and even some Antonocities vehicles. While it wasn't a long manga, it gave us a glimpse of what it was like to be on a Spoiler Circular, or a Caravansarie, or to be on Bourak. The Tag on Tag action, while brief was great to see unfold. Watching a pair of Guijia and a squad of Tiger Soldiers hot dropping onto the battlefield was a badass "OH S!@T" moment. Don't click here unless you want the whole premise of the manga spoiled: Spoiler The implications of unsanctioned cube revivals and copy personalities is explored as well. PanO can't go after Emily and Knauf openly after the events of Outrage because they did some very naughty things with Knauf's stored cube personality that they can't admit to. I did not expect the manga to explore a fairly deep theme like this and was pleasantly surprised.
It gets into some really deep points, up to and including the mental costs of war and undercover work. Some people may not be paying attention, due to the massive TAG-on-TAG and/or TAG-on-Dogwarrior violence, but the deep themes are there.
Outrage story was really good but the art didn't work for the action scenes. I like spending a long time on each image if I'm looking at details but not to make out if I am even looking at a human. If they made a descriptive single image of an action scene instead of trying to draw motion it would have fixed my only problem. Actual art style was great it was mostly the fight scene with the whole merc squad. The 0-G fight in the Hellcat suit- so good.
I suppose your counter arguments might have more weight if I actually liked or had any interest in either the art style or the medium. I saw enough of the comic to put me off it. I'm more a fan of Geof Darrow's work than Shirow Masamune. Yeah, it may well be heresy that I am not a fan of manga when it inspired so much of the game, but that's the facts, Jack. I stopped reading comics for the most part about 15 years ago. I've watched a handful of anime (outside of Appleseed, Akira, BGC, and a few others, I'm just not interested in the stuff). Regardless of whether it fits into a particular game background or not. I grew up with cyberpunk/transhuman stuff (my teens were the 80s, when it was king). Still prefer Dredd to any of the others, too.
Uhm, if we're talking about 'totally-not-the-army' violence, that would be something that we could game. 'Random gang violence' or whatever the cover story of the day happens to be is absolutely something we could game. But yes, I agree that there doesn't seem to have been a whole lot of player involvement in the events of the Uprising.
