Playing FRRM in an Escalation League - Help?!

    Next week is 300pt Limited Insertion, 6 swc, with the mission: UNMASKING.

    It's a VERY different mission from the others we've played. It seems that it makes sense to bring a Hacker along for that +3 bonus so I'm not stuck failing at a console over and over against. With the mission bonus, the Alguacil is at a WIP 16 and is carrying a Combi Rifle. In addition, I figure my job will be to kill HVTs and defend my own. With that mindset, I'm thinking Chasseur Minelayers are great defense pieces. The Anaconda and Mirage-5 can be very killy. AD sucks in this mission, so I'll bring Mirage-5 in during the first round in limited space or just hold them back and deploy them regularly during deployment. The Moblot Engineer is there to follow around the Anaconda, but also be useful when necessary as it is a HI. I went with a small Briscard core link because it gives me a Lt., Paramedic, and my lone FO.

    I'm pretty unsure about this mission. Thoughts?

    Don't forget you can synch with your own designated target to keep them safe.

    Any particular reason you're not using a bigger core fireteam?

    I'm rather short on time so I make this one quick:
    The +3 bonus for hackers is not a big deal. Bringing an Alguacile just for this reason is not worth it.
    AD is king in this mission. You cannot land in 8' range on both sides of the central line. But that means there is a 4' line along the edge of your enemy's DZ where you CAN land your AD troopers. This rule hoses Infiltrators. (Chasseurs cannot go beyon 4' relative to yor DZ and may not place the mines further via Minelayer, either.) Still Chasseurs can be fine ARO pieces. Just make sure that the Mine and the Chasseur is within 8.5' (the range of the small teardrop template) of the antenna and/or your HVT.
    Tough specialists are golden in this mission. Briscards are the way to go.
    Mirage-5 will worth their weight in gold.
    Infiltrating Metros worth considering. Half of them (well, 40% chance) will land in the 4' danger zone right in front of the opponent. The oppoenent cannot ignore them (DEP is a nasty ARO piece) and will hose them tremendously.

    I don't see how AD is "king" in this mission. Only having a 4" gap to land AD troops is super limiting and because it will be easier to defend for my opponent, it's also really risky.

    I have not played Unmasking yet. Havent had a whole lot of time to get in games recently :( Just reading over the mission really fast it seems really tough for FRRM because we don't get any of our fun infiltration options without risking failing and being deployed as far back as you an be. And if you do succeed you are soooo up in their face its terrifying (I have been interested in trying to use one of the Infiltarting moblot profiles and get on the opponents half of the board but its a lot of points to have fail and sit in the back seat. Might be worth it in a larger order pool option.)

    Yea I don't see how AD is king. Mirage-5 might be the exception here but I still think its a risk. Really depends on who you are playing against. Don't forget that with Mirage you can decide to just walk them on from your deployment zone if it ends up your oponent has those areas covered well. Its not ideal but might be better than a suicide run with Duroc. (On a side note my buddy got me their models for my birthday! So excited to use the real models and not my temporary proxies)

    I can't wait until you get to try FRRM with a bucket of orders (if you haven't already).

    Keep in mind you are playing limited insertion. No cheerleaders to camp by the truckload on the perimeter of the DZ. That means your opponent will not be able to properly defend both edges. Chances are pretty high he will be busy pushing upfields with his army getting to the antennas, killing your troopers, getting to your HVTs, defending his own etc. If your opponent does leave out someone to guard the edge of the DZ, chances are high you can clear them with your high-burst weapons. (Your TAG for example.)
    Not having to spend a fairly high amount of orders to get your killy troopers right where you want (in the back of the enemy troopers, but close to the midfield with the antennas and your opponent's HVTs) is pretty much invaluable in LI.
    In case you can force your opponent to keep two of his troopers (that is one fifth of his army!) back guarding the edges, you are already at an advantage.
    And regarding the limited volume of landing spots: you would want to land your AD troopers pretty close to your opponent's DZ anyway, so the restriction is not too effective...

    You have basically three options: go all in, go big, or go shrewd. All three are fine selections.
    Mirage-5 is one fantastic unit. Since you and your opponent will both be busy fighting in the middle of the table, the shortish range of the AP rifle will not be a problem at all. Duroc (your only source of smoke!) will lay smoke wherever you need - because you will only need it in the center of the table. I admit Duroc being impetuous can cause you trouble if you have to restrain him, but I would take Little Red Riding Hood and her Big Bad Wolf anytime I play FRRM. High risk - high reward.
    You can take a HMG Paracommando. Fielding a HMG for 1 SWC is pretty much a steal in LI format. 31 points pricetag is not too high and not too low. Mimetism is the icing on the cake.
    An you can take the FO Paracommando. Last minute antenna control or murdering the HVT: this girl worths her weight in gold. (And the mini looks awesome!!!)
    Keep in mnd you don't have to put the Paracommandos on the table in the first round. If the landing spot is heavily guarded, feel free to postpone the landing!

    Looks mostly fine to me, but I would not include so much AD units in a list. Mirage-5 tend to consume a lot of your order pool. I would switch the Paracommandos both for FO Chasseurs. Mines, flamethrowers, WIP13 specialists and marker state make them pretty ace for this mission.
