My question is regarding this profile:

[IMG] KǍNRÈN Minelayer Boarding Shotgun, Chain-colt, Sniffer / Pistol, Monofilament CC Weapon, Knife. (0 | 27)

Thanks to Minelayer, the Kanren can place a Sniffer in the deployment phase. Is he allowed to place the sniffer in such a way that its ZoC covers enemy camo tokens?

The rules for Minelayer state the following:

    REQUIREMENTS
    • Any enemy Camouflage and Hiding Marker cannot be inside the Trigger Area of the Deployable Weapon or piece of Equipment when it is deployed.
    • The deployment of the Deployable Weapon or piece of Equipment must follow the Deployment general conditions.

I might be reading this wrong, so I wanted to ask you to make sure. Is "Trigger Area" synonimous with "ZoC" in this case? Technically, the Sniffer doesn't have a trigger area.

I could honestly see this one going either way, since it's a non-lethal deployable that technically has no Trigger Area.

However in the interest of playing as fair as possible, I would probably assume that for the purposes of Minelayer the Sniffer ZoC is the same as it's Trigger Area, until further clarification is provided.

The general rule intent seems to be that you can't drop a deployable on top of a camo marker that was already there when you're deploying. This is basically the only disadvantage to deployment when you have the deployment option instead of initiative option at game start..

i'd go with yes you can. as in addition to the technicality of sniffer not having a trigger area, let's remember that during game play placing a mine where it could affect a camo marker requires an Intuitive Attack roll; so i can see Minelayer forbidding to place the mine during deployment phase without having to succeed at an attack roll. But you are free to place sniffer during the game with camo marker in ZoC. When deploying it with minelayer you are not attempting to bypass any WIP check.

I don't see any reason you couldn't. A sniffer does not have a trigger area, and I think the argument ends there IMO. I also don't think it violates any rules intentions. The minelayer clause regarding trigger areas is to 1). Prevent you from getting a full-order action for free and 2). to prevent scenarios where a marker cannot safely move right off the bat due to an immediate mine ARO. Perimeter weapons have similar restrictions. A sniffer doesn't provide any ARO's and minelayer doesn't give a sniffer the same action economy, so deploying it in ZoC of a camo maker would be consistent with the established philosophy.

How about otherway around? Can you place a Camo/TO Marker in a Sniffer's area during deployment?

Yes, Sniffers only prevents you from recamo, not from starting in camo state. :)
