Hi there, I just started collecting Tohaa half a year ago, because some friends of mine began to play Infinity again. (this is my second atempt to play this game - the first one was with Nomads over 10 years ago, but in the meantime, I've been following Infinity as a silent observer.). So I skipped my old Nomads aaaand - Tohaa it is. And I read a lot, buyed and painted a lot of my Artichokes and played some matches (special thanks to Magonus, because his blog has contributed a lot to my enthusiasm). After this few months I can just say : I regret nothing. I like the Tohaa style, their unique game mechanics and I like being "that alien guy". But since I started to invest more time in this hobby and look and all the current and planned releases, the more I got that kind of a feeling that I might have bet on dying horse. Since I began collecting, they were two releases: Gorgos Pilot and Sukeul with Missile Launcher. At first I was like "Yeah, new models every few months". But then I noticed that not all army entries even have models (taquel) and that they are obviously not even planned. And at the same time I see how the other players in my group can look forward to really great releases. (we got 3 PanO, 1 YuJing, 1 Nomad, 1 Combined, 1 Ariadna) I have always found it one of Infinity's greatest strengths to support the factions equally. I know the future of Tohaa is very bleak. And I am aware, of course, that there is nothing we can do about it. But the question I am asking myself is, why is that actually the case? Why are Tohaa and Aleph so little supported even though newer factions would have needed it more? Is it economic pressure? (the GW Space Marine dilemma?) Is it the balancing between the factions? Or has Corvus Belli forsaken us just because they don't like us anymore? What is your theory and opinion?
They are spending time and resources to create cool new models for triumvirate, it's just a matter of time mate :D They are not abandoned ^^ Have faith!! (And play the Dawn Campaing as Tohaa ROAR!)
Look at the Tohaa dry spell as a blessing. It will allow you to complete your collection of Tohaa without a bunch of new stuff coming in to eat at your wallet. If you have completed your collection (like many of us have), then look at it as a way to free up your funds to get some of that sweet new Nomad stuff coming out. One of the best things about Infinity is getting into multiple armies and you have already done that. Embrace all your armies! Nomads are my secondary faction and I'll be picking up a number of things for them this year. Honestly I think part of the Tohaa problem is that CB hasn't been inspired to dwell on the Tohaa part of the story. Aliens are a little harder to knock out of the park, so it makes sense that they would stick with Humans. Sure they have been adding some new interesting stuff to the Combined Army...even stuff that looks like advanced Chaksa that could have been part of the Tohaa army...not bitter at all about that and CA is now my third army... Some of us Tohaa players joke about how we won't see new stuff until 2034, but it will be sooner than that. I don't see any reason to give up on hope yet. The nail in the Tohaa coffin will be if we see them declare that Tohaa will no longer be supported, or if we see the Tohaa moved to the NA2 section of Army. Until either of those happen we should have hope. We will eventually get new things that will cause the other factions to hate us and complain because our toys are cooler than theirs.
@SirTycho: I'm in similar shoes to you as a Tohaa noob. I just started Tohaa at the beginning of this year (and am thoroughly enjoying them). And, like you, I like new releases and am a bit miffed that we seem to be at the back of the queue. Even without a Taqeul, there are other profiles they could give us sculpts for (Sukeul HMG, Clipsos Minelayer, Sakiel LRL [we are not getting a box anytime soon], etc.). But on the other hand . . . I've got a whole faction to explore already. I just assembled my Gorgos and Kerail beasties this weekend, and am excited to get them on the table. I'm having fun working with all the tricks and tools that Tohaa bring to the table that very few other units in the game have access to (and some which are just flat-out exclusive). In the near term, that's enough to keep me happy. (as an aside, I'm not particularly interest in Taqeuls with their profiles as they stand now so I don't feel the lack of sculpts there) And as a guy who's been watching CB closely for a few years now, I do not think Tohaa have been benched. Everything CB has said publicly suggests that we're on the back burner while they do some other things, but that they'll circle back to the artichokes eventually. As to why it'll take a while? I think it's largely because Tohaa are uniquely designed in game terms, and CB wants them to stay that way. That means everything that we get will take longer to arrive (the Shavastii and MRRF's fates were another manifestation of this same mindset). Aleph though? Aleph has gotten consistent releases throughout, they've just been Greek. Vedic has never, ever, been a sectorial, so there's been no need to support it as one. Some Aleph players have had a hard time wrapping their heads around that fact, but it remains true nonetheless. And regardless, they're getting Vedic this year, so their wait paid off. As will ours, Bostria willing.
During the uprising week and on the stream on Saturday bostria said that they are planning alien [tohaa and shasvasti] but they are alien so there can't take the normal human body. They need to create a new body form to produce new miniatures. We will see new aliens at the end of the year (my guess is sometime around September / Oktober)
He said they would start the design process at the end of the year, not start releasing at the end of the year.
While you're waiting for some shiny new minis, you can take part in our small but daring endeavour by voting in this poll for the unofficial Tohaa sectorials. Magonus is our mastermind and the one who started this, and I'm currently busy with the technical side (setting up the database, building interface etc). So if you feel you have some unspent energy that you would like to donate to our cause, feel free to contact @Magonus or me about your ideas.
I love Tohaa and they are my main faction. Having said that it should be clear that they do not compare with other factions and are seen much more as equivalent to a "sectorial." I do wish this was better publicised as it would've made my expectations much more realistic and also helped with people that are getting into the faction. I'm not expecting releases for them in 2018 dare I say 2019 but I could be catastrophising. I do think they are worth investing in though. While tohaa may not be popular they should be given the chance to excel.
First of all, thank you for your active participation. @n21lv I've already voted. This is a really cool project. =) @yojamesbo Glad to read it's not just me. And of course you are right that there is still a lot to discover (I am looking forward to getting the Kerail). But it is also the case that I don't want to have all existing models because I don't like them (Ectros, Kaauri, Makaul (yes for real, Makaul)). It is a pity that my limit is reached very soon. @Cothel For me it is out of the question to start a second group. Then I prefer to invest the money in a completely different game (do you hear Corvus Belli? I don't spend the money with you;)). Instead of playing the same game in slightly different ways, I prefer to give it some real variety and play freebooter or something similar. But as I said: I like my Tohaa and since we are playing the Paradiso campaign, the whole Infinity thing is also very motivating for me. But the zero support for the faction is already bad and reminds me old GW veteran of something like chaos dwarves (does anyone else remember?).
Well, you just happened to jump onboard at the quietest time of the year (biennium? quintennium? decade?). I had a bit more luck when I started collecting Tohaa, but we're on the same level – I have just about 20 games of experience, so I too have a handful of Tzechi Digesters to study. CB is not a company like GW (old GW, I mean. The New GW(R) seems to actually listen to their playerbase, hats off to their new CEO) that forgets a faction. Even Exrah who are basically considered to be 'squatted' are not truly abandoned. There are fluff pieces that refer to them and there are still rumors that they might re-emerge one day. And even though we are keeping a 'very low profile' this year, we still get an updated Aelis (I hope they will make a resculpt).
