I'm not going to port over all the step by step posts I made during the construction of this board I'm just going to post an overview of the current state of it. But if you want to see the WIP shots some can be found on my Imgur thread https://imgur.com/a/jZUpy My space station/ship starts with the base board 10mm plywood in 6 x 2' squares covered with cereal box card with the detail embossed using a ballpoint pen. 2 of the base board squares have been cut on an angle to allow the constuction of spaceship deck plans such as; Then for raise levels I have 6 x 1' squares of 1" thick polystyrene covered with the same card detailing 3 x 12' x 6" blocks and 6 x 6" square blocks Then there are the specialty blocks, I have some angled blocks in both 12" and 6" to match the angled base boards or to make non right angled corridors on a square layout. Then there is the bridge block Escape pod bay The pods are removable to show launch There is a block with stairs and a large fan inset into the floor And the cargo hatch/docking bay And the door lifts out to show the bay open There is a selection of straight and corner walls with door options 4 small rooms, at just under 6" square they will fit atop one of the small blocks A large number of single and double height stairs, I finally have enough for a 4' x 4' board but still feel stretched if I go for the full 6' x 4'. Also a bunch of stair adapters that allow troops to be placed on the stairs Also some bridge pieces that can span between the basic blocks, I've made these in several widths so they can limit which size troops can use them. And finally scatter terrain in theme The latest WIP are some airlocks to create entry points that will allow the spaceship board t be part of a larger table. So when it's all put together you get something like this C&C welcome
Having made a space ship table (at a measly 3' x 3'), I know your pain, buddy. It is a metric shit ton of work. I recognize some of the spacecraft stuff, though. This is turning out awesome - keep up the good work!
@taylor what pain, some days I think I only wargame to make models (it's certainly not because my dice like me) I been loving every minute I've spent on this project over the last 3 years. I'm very nearly done and I'm already considering my next project (or more precisely trying to choose between a long list of wouldn't it be cool to...). Robert
That is truly amazing work. Absolutely awesome stuff. Are the walls and extra rooms made with cereal boxes or other material?
@DAE, The extra pieces are made with matte board, it's high quality cardboard about 1.5mm thick used by photo framers and they will give you their offcuts for free. Robert
My buddy and I were just discussing our need for some terrain where it'd make sense to play zero-g games. Thanks for the inspiration, it looks amazing!
