I find the white background captures the darker colours better, and the black background brings out the light colours better.

I agree. There are pros and cons for each. With the white background I had to manually overexpose due to the way cameras auto-exposure works, and the colours are a bit more genuine. The back background makes colours more saturated (again due to camera sensor algorithms). The gun casing and barrels are not actually that blue on the model- they're supposed to be much more muted grey-blue glaze. Also black looks a lot more dusty. It's hard to wipe up all the dust specks.

Either way, both types of background make my paint job look good

I forgot that I had finished Agnes Ferreira back in May, so here she is. I like her Defiance colour scheme and followed it. I did her rather quickly, so she's looking a little rough. My favourite part is her skin tone and the base, which I had a lot of fun painting.

Now- the mighty Yan Huo with HRMC! What a great sculpt and an absolute pleasure to paint. I took some time to do some free hand, and attempted some battle damage on the armour. I think they turned out ok. I showed my wife and she said, why don't you just take your knife and hack at it a bit? Well, yeah I could, but then the damage would be permanent. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Annoyingly, I put together the big cannon before checking the alignment on the back (which was not easy or obvious how it should be connected). It ended up not lined up with where the head is looking. Not obvious from the photos, but very obvious when viewed from certain angles around the front. Ah well.

That may be, but I like the look. The support legs on his back are up and he is solidly walking to a better fire position to lay down some hate!

I see your point! To me, the struts seem to be there just for balance- too thin to poke into the ground to support the legs. It's perfectly fine, just the OCD part of me wanting the cannon to line up with the head.:joy:

Finally got around to taking photos of my last minis of 2024. October was a bust but November and December saw some painting done.

With the Yan Huo done my Invincible Army was pretty much done, with the exception of the Libertos which is primed and ready to go. I couldn't decide how to paint it so decided to put it aside and get ISS started with N5 dropping.

When I first started playing Yu Jing, ISS really appealed to me and I was intending to play the sectorial once I got more familiar with the rules (see the Kuang Shis of my first post). Well that didn't happen as I was initially put off by the extra layer of Fireteam rules, and then somehow ended up painting and playing Invincible Army. I have yet to play a game of N5, but hopefully that will change soon as I finish painting the ISS models I collected over the years.

First up is the Crane Agent. I've been wanting to paint this guy for a while. I painted him like an actual crane, referencing lots of photos because I got a bit bored of YuJing yellow.

He still got a bit of yellow-orange and violet to tie in with the rest of my army. Painting him was very challenging but so much fun. I tried to do nmm gold trim, which turned out to be my favourite part of this mini.

Major Luna: her concept art showed her with snake patterned cloak. So to continue the animal theme I referenced diamond back rattlesnake skin. I think it turned out ok.

The last mini of 2024 was the old Guifeng Spec-Op mini. I wish CB had made more generic minis like this for each faction as they're great to use as proxies. I think Ariadna may have the highest number of these Spec-Op models?

The first mini of January 2025 is Zhanying hacker. This is probably the profile I will take the most often. Such a nice sculpt too.

And finally, a WIP of Su Jian that I'm working on. PXL_20250327_001058427.jpg

Thanks :) This guy will most likely proxy as Adil Mehmut, since there's no reason not to take him instead of an actual Crane.

Finished the Su-Jian! I love Yu Jing heavy infantries. I've only used him once (ineffectively )in a game before he got painted up. I found the timing of the transformation a bit tricky.

For Bromad Academy's last painting contest, I painted up an old edition Pheasant Agent. Since it's a pheasant, I used the colours of the red golden pheasant aka the Chinese pheasant. It's native in China and commonly seen in Chinese paintings.

Faces are hard, but hers is the best one I've done.

Not an easy choice but well done beside it's trickyness.
