    Episode 109: Winner's Circle - Attack on Atlanta 2025

Fast summary by AI (not read)
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    #### List used by Lobo
The tournament missions were “Unmasking”, “Supremacy”, “Decapitation”, “Capture and Protect”, and “Frostbite”. Lobo lost the initiative draw in all five games, which meant he had to play second in every game. However, his list was designed to survive an opponent's first turn, enabling him to win despite this disadvantage.

Lobo brought two lists to the tournament, but mainly used a list he calls his “main list”. This list included:

    Strategy anti-Nourkias :

    - **Popularity of Nourkias**: Lobo noted that several players were using Nourkias, a powerful model from the Combined Army faction, capable of swiftly traversing the battlefield thanks to its Super-Jump skill. Nourkias was a popular choice among players due to its ability to quickly engage the enemy and disrupt opposing plans.

    - **Counter-Strategies**: To counter Nourkias, Lobo used a combination of EM mines and jammer to create zones of denial, slowing the enemy advance. The EM mines, in particular, were crucial in isolating and immobilizing Nourkias, leaving him vulnerable to attack.

    - **Game Effect**: Although Nourkias is a formidable model, Lobo was able to neutralize him by forcing his opponents to navigate through dangerous areas, reducing their ability to make full use of Nourkias' skills.

Lobo0705 shared his experience and thoughts on Discord after participating in a tournament in Atlanta, where he lost the Lieutenant's Jet in all five games, forcing him to play second every time. Here's a quick translation in organized text format.

    ### Lobo's Strategy and Reflections:

    - **Playing second**: Lobo anticipated that he might have to play second and so prepared a list suitable for this situation. He believes that many factions are at a disadvantage when playing second in N5, but considers Hassassin Bahram (HB) to be one of the best factions to play second.

    - **Faction assessment**: He believes that Yu Jing is also a faction capable of performing well when playing second. The discussion points out that the ability to play well as a second is a key factor in evaluating factions in N5, unlike N4 where the emphasis was more on offensive capabilities.
He believes that Haqqislam's combination of air vehicles, super jumping monsters and TAGs means that their offensive toolboxes are excellent almost everywhere.

    - **Turrets and operating pieces**: Lobo mentions that even deploying just one or two turrets can make a difference, even if they're quickly destroyed, as it can cost the opponent precious orders to manage this threat.
He notes that increasing the number and speed of exploitation pieces changes the dynamics of the game. For example, units like Go-Pods are much faster and tougher than older options like the UFK, making them excellent pieces for clearing ORAs.

    - **Defense and ORA**: The discussion touches on the importance of setting up ORA (automatic reaction) pieces to counter fast-moving units such as Tr bots, flash bots, warcor, etc. However, it's crucial not to expose your units too much, as snipers can easily eliminate them. Lobo prefers to use units in camouflage or hidden deployment for a more reliable defense.

    - **List choices**: For his Group 2, Lobo prefers units such as Yaogat, Long Ya, Gudan, and Beast Hunter depending on the factions played, although he recognizes that certain combinations are not possible in all game formats. He believes that the Vanilla and WB formats offer better defensive options.

    ### Papa Grizzles comments:

    - **On Barids**: He chose two Barids with Killer Hacking Devices to counter Combined Army hacking attacks, and because they're inexpensive but still efficient.
    - **On the Flamenspeer**: He's not convinced by the Flamenspeer, preferring weapons that cause more damage when revealed:
“My reasoning is that when I reveal the model and get my gotcha aro, I want it to be as damaging as possible. The Flamenspeer with continuous trait can certainly do damage, but it doesn't have the weight of dice.”
    - **Hacking Strategy**: He uses hacking to deal with threats he can't eliminate with gunfire. Barids are used to counter enemy hackers and the other two to lay Spotlight or other shenanigans tactics. Some participants felt there was too much investment in hacking.
    - **Faction advantage**: He mentions that VCA is the only faction that fights with an advantage, mainly during the active turn, while the other factions are often tied.
    - **Hidden deployment**: He appreciates the hidden deployment of the Shujae and Nadhir, which he finds very effective, especially the Shujae.
    - **Impersonation change**: He doesn't like the impersonation change, so concentrates on area denial and mines.

The list is specific to these two missions: Frostbite and Supremacy. Here's his comment on it:
“The hidden deployment alone made it viable, the x2 minelayer included automatically." "I think dominating the exclusion zone will be a forgone conclusion if I’m succeeding on all the other objectives. I have 80 points that are relatively hard to remove that can get in there. I’m more worried about controlling the heating units and killing your points.”

Jager was very well inspired to have been a paramedic right where you wanted him. The opponents left no openings for him to sneak in and e/mitter things as he dreamed. In any case, he'll try to make Group 1 a CoC kaeltar.

**Apache Raider** shared on discord his experience and results after taking part in the “Attack on Atlanta” tournament with Yu Jing's Invincible Army (IA) sub-faction, where he finished in 39th place out of 58 participants. He met some formidable opponents and shared his lists and impressions of his units' performances. Here's the article-format version of his conversation:

    ### Tournament summary:

    - **Rankings and matches**: Apache Raider finished 39th out of 58 with AI. He faced tough opponents: TAK, Nomads, Hassassins, and JSA, with a bye in one round, giving him a technical score of 2-3.

    - **List Performance**: He used two different lists, each performing well despite unfavorable dice. The prevalence of AI's mimetism and camouflage abilities dictates more of a defensive stance, but these were very useful, even in unfavorable positions.

    ### Reflections and comments:

    - **Unit Performance**: Units like Gudan and Mowang (which is a pseudo 3 Wounds with a friendly baggage bot to reload the cheap flammenspeer) were very effective, winning a close match against the Hassassins on a Decapitation mission.
The Bixie and Hulang combo with another Zuyong in Haris also worked well against the JSA, despite losing due to failed saving throws and a lack of order to beat a Shikami at the end.

    - **Challenges Encountered**: The prevalence of mimetism among opponents made it more difficult to exchange shots. The Haidào, though powerful, was quickly targeted and neutralized, which meant it couldn't be used very often.
The fact that Invincible Army's MSV is relatively limited is not good; it was a problem. Bixie's MSV is expensive and the Haidao is infamous for this and even immediately becomes a target.

    - **Future strategies**: Apache Raider is considering using more REMs with an engineer and EVO to improve Verrofibro coverage for a +6 and saves but not on the -3 malus to shooting. He also discovered a new combination with the Rui Shi and Lu Duan, the latter with assisted shooting is sometimes as good as an MSV 2 and can gain a +1B BS attack on both profiles to improve shooting abilities.

    ### Other participants' reactions:

    - **Paegis, Vincible Squad**: Enjoyed sharing and discussed the effectiveness of the Mowang and strategies to counter mimetism. He also shared about the problem of the Haidao's vulnerability to being quickly targeted, so it would be better to keep it in hidden reserve for offensive use.
    - carnarvon**: Was surprised by the absence of the killer hacker and Yanhuo from the list, to which Apache Raider replied that its choices were dictated by the specific threats encountered.
    - **Truls**: Mentioned the usefulness of the Rui Shi and Lu Duan to improve shooting capabilities, a combination that Apache Raider plans to use in the future.

I assume he means Isolated, thus devoid of orders to move. The question is why would you align Nourkias without 1-2 Taighas or Hungries to clean the path of mines. Or directly with some Daturazi, which are inmunne to EM and provide smoke.

For 25pts I would add a Rasyat too, if only to get Eclipse grenades on a troop that can drop in or just be deployed on the table, even if I run Dukash.
