Quick question on the guts mechanic. What point in the movement of an active trooper is used as point of reference for the guts movement? The point from which they perform their shooting attacks? Or the end point of their movement, since guts is performed at the very end of an order? Example: The trooper being activated starts his movement in total cover to his target. He then uses his first short movement skill (move) to slide to the side, thereby creating LoS to the target enemy trooper. But the active trooper doesnt end his movement in this position, instead he uses the remaining movement of his short movement skill to slide back into his initial starting position, thereby ending his movement again in total cover from the enemy trooper. The enemy trooper then declares his ARO. As his second short skill the active trooper declares shoot. Now if the reactive trooper has to make a saving roll, how would the guts mechanic actually play out (assuming they have to make a guts roll)? I assume that you should take the point from which the reactive trooper was shot at to be taken as reference point for their following guts movement. However, as far as I can tell this is not specified in the rules for guts. This would mean that you could effectively deny your opponent their guts move if you end your movement outside the LoF of the model being attacked, as the model performing the guts movement in this case already would fulfill the first option (leaving LoF of attacker). But it feels kind of unintuitive, so I hope I am mistaken in this. I went over the rules and stumbled over this question so I would like to hear your assessment.
I believe Guts happens after resolution of the order so the Guts movement happens from the final location.(if there is a position where the cover is improved)
Guts rules are poorly written. Most people play guts rules the following way: - Reactive trooper uses all points of the attacker as a reference --> Reactive trooper can guts move against peekaboo attacks. - Active trooper uses the final movement spot as reference --> Active trooper TAG can't do 6-4 move from total cover to total cover and then perform 2" guts move if it gets shot in the way. In order to get the free guts move with TAG in this situation, the TAG needs to leave the tiniest silhouette sliver visible to the attacker at the end of second move.
Relevant thread IJW covers it in there - https://forum.corvusbelli.com/threads/guts-from-attacker-who-peeks.38956/ There's no difference between active and reactive trooper for determining their position it's just reactive trooper won't have moved so they only occupy one spot compared to the attacker who might occupy several and as Guts takes place during the order the attacker exists at all positions for leaving LoF for Guts.
Thank you for pointing this out! I actually used the search function, but I only went back to the beginning of 2022 and then gave up. I accept ijw's explanation and I can follow it, although I agree with iKon that the rules for guts are poorly written. Many skills and mechanics in Infinity do not exist in a vacuum, but you shouldn't have to puzzle these things together from three different points in the rulebook.
If you are trying to search for something it's much easier to use Google to be honest. I got the URL for the linked post by searching "site:forum.corvusbelli.com guts from attacker" which searches for results from the forum with those terms at the end
