It eliminates the step where you add to your dice roll. Simplifying the process without changing the overall result is always a good thing. It's a small quality of life change, but it is a benefit. Mathematical proficiency (or lack thereof) isn't really a factor in a game where you are constantly adding and subtracting from rolls due to range, mimetism, and cover anyway.

The feeling of seeing a small number and losing to a crit vs. seeing a big number and losing to a crit is heavily dependent on an individual's perception. For every person who gets annoyed at seeing a 2 crit there's someone out there who is used to an 18 missing and hates when it crits instead.

Additionally, there's a big difference between the feeling of losing to a CC specialist who crits you 25% of the time and the feeling of losing a Mim(-6) Surprise attack to a Line Trooper because he happened to roll a 2.

So ultimately, simplifying the process is probably worth potentially adding a few seconds annoyance on an interaction you're already expecting to lose that probably won't even affect a significant percentage of the playerbase.

That's pretty easy honestly, it builds hype, you see this ad blitz, then you see a new edition is coming out, perfect time to start yourself!

I love a good America bashing as the next self aware American but our education system doesn't leave a majority of us "functionally illiterate" it's got it's problems certainly (and Covid did a number on a lot of kids and that's still being felt) but if there's one thing the media and pundits love on a slow day is decrying "the decline of American Education" it's an evergreen topic for the m. but if it was as bad as they claim we'd really be the knuckle dragging neanderthals Europeans already think we are. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

But anyway we should drop the subject, N5 HYPE!!

Actually something that it might be cool for CB to work on at some point would be a Co-op mode for Infinity. GW is doing it for the newest edition of Kill -team and it sounds like a great idea, especially as a way to teach new people. Family members and spouses/partners can be a bit of a different ball of wax compared to people who wander into a game store/club.

Going back to the speculation aspect: Once N5 drops, what factions do you all think will be getting updates/new miniatures first (after the obvious ones in the new starter box and any that may have been stated)?

For haqqislam, Hassasin bahram, for sure, who recived a lot of love from CB. I have doubts abot Ramah, despite the new mukhtar and even more doubts for QK.

With this new edition, focusing more in vehicles, probably is time for khanate of gaqbar.

    Cheers

From what we've heard in the interviews, all factions will receive at least one entry.

There will be 11 boxes, so all the generalist factions will be back on sale, and the tohaa will probably be among the last.

And there seems to be a trend at Corvus Belli for all factions to have at least an S6 and S7 TAG, so we should expect new TAGs for factions that don't have this availability.

As the first set of available factions, we can already count on the availability of Panoceania and the JSA, which will have massive releases every month.
Yu Jing should also be in with at least one troop for the White Banner, and they're waiting for the ISS to be overhauled.
The Torchlight Brigade is still on a regular path of releases more or less every month.
Ariadna should have some stuff for Merovingia, people have been talking about a return for sale.

Last wednesday my Hwarang CCed a Mobile Brigada. First roll was a 5 vs a ten from the MB - draw. Next roll was a 5 again but MB also rolled 5 - yeah. In N5 first roll would be a crit (CC 22+3=25). So yeah I kinda like the new way because I roll very low for my CC experts. But with new rules, the dice will adapt :-( ;-)

As far as I can see, nothing new, apart from the names of the units in the new starter (and new sectorials in it).

Fennec Fusiliers, I'd risk a (somewhat educated, I hope) guess are going to be Fusiliers with Desert Terrain slapped on for flavor reasons. And maybe some tweak in equipment options compared to the Fusiliers we are used to.
Or maybe not even that, like we have WinterFor Fusiliers who differ from standard Fusiliers just by the means of winter jackets on the models, IIRC.

Banshees look to me like Akalis Sikh, if with different helmets.

    And Griffins not unlike ORCs.

I'm not familiar with PanO models enough to draw likenesess from Black A.I.R. or Scarecrows.

However, given the style, I would propose a theory these might be advanced (with fluff) versions of the abovementioned PanO units (in the post-Shattergrounds era), their specialized detachments, or otherwise a reason allowing PanO players to recycle old models they do own, and play the Kestrel Force with old miniatures, without spending a arm and a leg on new ones (unless they wish to do so).

I honestly don't know enough about the JSA to draw equivalent comparisons between old JSA models and Shindenbutai.

However, the old (1gen) Keisotsu I do remeber seem similar enough to the Senku Troops to me (and obviously Senku fulfill the same role the Keisotsu did - bassic line infantry, packing rifles) to be resusable as such.

Raiden Seibutai HRL is a loadout that exists as of now (late N4) but lacks a sculpt.

Nokidaru Unit is something new, as is Jizamurai Hanryodan and the Hatamoto. Though, I guess, if some old JSA heavier unit goes the way of the dinosaurs, its sculpts can be reused as one of these, too...

Note: I do like the idea of reusing troops that no longer are valid as themselves.

From the seminar, Fennec Fusiliers will be exclusive to this sectorial and Griffins are veteran ORCs.

Black AIR are shooters with Parachutist option (like Tiger Warriors back in the days were droptroops with a multisniper option).

So you can reuse your old Fusiliers and ORCs as Fennecs and Griffins (and probably Akalis as Banshees) to use the models already in your collection to play a Kestrel Colonial Force, right?
Because that's what I mean. Sure, they won't look 100% kosher, but at arm's length, especially with a proper paintjob, who's gonna care?

    :D

Now one would only need to find suitable older stand-ins for Banshees and Black A.I.R. and Bob is your uncle.
    That's what I meant.

Sure, we totally agree on that, I just wanted to add a bit of information :D

Fennecs can be your old Fusiliers or even Regulars depending of the weapons.
    Griffin is an ORC
An Akhal or a an Echo-Bravo as Banshee.
    A Zulu-Cobra as a Scarecrow.
    A Bolt as Black A.I.R

Raiden in lore were almost wiped out to a man so the battlefield roll was taken up by the Ryuken unit 9.
They don't have a profile in Army any more, it was removed when the JSA was shifted from Yu Jing to NA2

The other unit that was retired at that time was Haramaki Zensenbutai which were essentially replaced with Tanko so I wonder if they will see a comeback also.
If they do bring back Haramaki then something similar to a Bakunin Cenobite would be a welcome addition to JSA.

that! a recent game I played (we both play very occasionally, once a month or less) I rolled something like 10 and added my +1 making it 11. Opponent rolled 9 and forgot to add +3 making it 12. Player never forgets "to add" when they roll an 18 or 19, because those players don't actually add. They abbreviate/summarize to "I crit on 17+" when the actual rule is "add +3 on every dice roll and you crit if the result is 20 or more" so when they roll low (roll less than the wished upon 17+) they forget to add.
