Yeah it is a pain. Just finally got around to painting my Rodoks too. They're great models but this does suggest a resculpt will happen down the line. Honestly not sure how they're gonna improve on the originals, such great sculpts.
The combi will be my SMG, the HMG will do as a spitfire. I have 2 boarding shotgun models so they'll see use. Its just the coolest of the lot, Mr 2 Shotguns, who doesn't have an obvious use now which is a shame.
I will use the double shotgun guy as SMG, smallish weapon seems to fit. I'll probably convert the combi as boarding shotgun and the hmg as a spitfire. Seems like it's all manageable to fix. That and one suryat to convert aswell, i'm not that mad about the changes ;)
I think the Rodoks could have gotten an AP spitfire which would've put them in a great spot. Then they would fill a unique niche in both onyx and maf and the loss of the core and b4 lsg would be less noticeable since the haris would pack a nice punch.
I managed to play with those rules already and must admit - cool stuff happened. In first group, next to Unidron sniper link I packed Nourkias + Kodali+ Rodok SD. In sec group Maakep with Suryat LT2 haris. It went well! A lot of ARO shooting (with and without MSV) and 12 orders for Nourkias harris. I've also noticed: easy targeting with Kerr'Nau + Rodok SD (due to pitcher) 2x Unidron sniper is even more deadly (loosing one of them downgrades BS by 1 only) And there is a new ape in the family: what are your thoughts on that? It might be compared to Nexus eng and that's a trade NCO for APmines, or Panzerfaust, or Cannon, or APCombi. I'm confused...
First game in the books with the nexus engineer in a pure unidron core. Imma add to the love for this guy. Feels real good to be able and pick that PSR back up only spending the Lt order. Was prepared to B2 gizmokit a plasma Q-drone in the midfield but didn’t come to it. Really looking forward to leveraging this guy with a TAG next.
In my initial assessment I totally overlooked a big change for a really interesting and fluffy unit for Onyx: the Samaritan hacker. I hadn't really noticed that for the first time he gains access to a tinbot link, and here's why I think this is a really big deal for Onyx lists... He's always been a bit of a beast and good enough to feature in Vanilla CA lists, but also vulnerable when you go up against hacking heavy lists. He was so close to being a top tier hacker, and now he actually might be. Wip14 and his bonus program, Trinity, combine very nicely with tinbot to allow him to throw a pretty mean aro if someone goes hunting him, as well as his NWI of course. But the wonderful thing about the Samaritan hacker is how much else he brings: Plasma carbine (with a link bonus +1b) is a superb weapon to put in a haris that wants to move and get things done, and he's second only Nourkias as a protheion CC terror. So yeah, something like Suryat HRL, Samaritan Hacker and Nexus Engineer makes a very dynamic, aggresive, flexible team that's good against camo, hackers, HI and Tags, in CC, has plasma at 0-16", b4 multipistol at 0-8", and packs a mean fiery template. It's also pretty nonchalant about hacking programmes that aren't trinity or spotlight, and there it can at least offer better than average defence. I think that not only does this haris really play into the identity of Onyx as scary door kickers, but also offers us a superb set of tools to deal with a lot of N4's most prominent challenges. _____________ It's also of note that Nourkias KHD gained access to a tinbot too. On first appearance this doesn't seem like a big deal as he's very much a lone wolf cybermask kinda guy, but this gives us a great option if we don't get first turn; he's at his most vulnerable when your opponent can shoot and hack him wihout impersonation, so it might make sense to start a haris with him in it before changing its composition and letting him off the leash. In the example haris above you'd start as second player with Nourk, Samaritan and Suryat in a haris, then on your turn reform, drop nourk, and pick up the Nexus.

I'm getting back into CA/Onyx, again. I like a lot of the changes but I still find it a challenge to make lists. I'm just curious as to what some have found works for them. I especially want to know how some use the Umbra. They are really expensive for 1 wound guys even with NWI. But man it would be fun to have a 3-man Umbra Legate team start 8" up the board!
Umbra legates are poor, and trash pure bonuses. The hd+ is nice if you want it though. Samaritans are amazing now. The hacker with a tinbot suryat haris is a legend. I've run 2 harises, each with a samaritan in before but, really, I think you're best off taking either Nourk or a Sam haris. Oh yeah, and just a basic sam in a xeo haris is solid, and gives you an lt option. We need at least 2 viable lts on the board to make decapitation less a forehone conclusion. I prefer 3...
It seems the Legates HD+ is great if going first since he can cybermask and then move up. Norkias is fantastic. I used him when he first came out but haven't really played since. I recently got the Xeodrons too.
Both Legate and Samaritan hackers are exellent. Samarian needs to hide a bit if you go 2nd against competent killer hackers and you haven't invested 1,5 swc for Suryat tinbot support (because you haveused those points for T-drone and/or Noctifer ML). Legate can get a inexpensive unidron tinbot for mere 0,5 swc, which makes him difficult and risky target for enemy killer hackers. The only problem with Samarian hacker is that everyone and their mother is playing TAGs and REMs, which sadly it can't be protheioned.
A very cheap one and on a decent platform, in addition! MOV6-2, superjump, ARM3 and PARA CC-6 will help him to stay alive if needed, or to get to objectives for end game scoring. Sure, it just shows there was very little thought into the way the OCF sectorial was structured if they're haphazardly throwing it in now.
