Hello there! Question posed is: Is the new Korsan model an homage to Captain Harlok Space Pirate? Model:
Well she is a space pirate! Definitely looks like his collared cloak, and I just posted in the new releases thread about how much CB enjoy sculpting interesting outerwear.
I can't unsee that the new Hawwa is Jessica Drew's (old school spiderwoman, from when comics were published in B&W regular paper) coiffure (the hair) using Bucky's glasses + mask (Captain America 2: Winter Soldier movie)
I'm not seeing it, but I have zero idea what a Harlock is (and thus am not predisposed to seeing it repeated elsewhere. Like 40k players seeing "40k" references in Dune ... )
There were certainly Dune references in Rogue Trader. The David Lynch movie released at about the time GW was developing the game and GW has always had a habit of borrowing from others. Just ask Michael Moorcock. Rogue Trader was a huge sprawling mess of a rulebook, for those who have never read it. You can find it on Archive.org. Be warned. It is a mess, a 3 LBBs that started D&D level of mess. No Surprise. the usual S.O.P. for GW. The Korsan cape certainly matches the images a quick search shows. The mini looks quite out of place with the rest of the Melek group. Sure, it's a homage. Edited: see mod comment below.
I'm well aware of Dune references in 40k, given that the book predates that game by a couple of decades. Dune, Foundation, Starship Troopers, Judge Dredd, etc. 40k has all of their tropes. I said 40k gamers (who have plainly never been exposed to any SF outside of 40k) seeing Dune and calling things out as "40k ripoffs", though. As if 40k ORIGINATED the trope. Or people calling DC comics' "Cyborg" character a "Robocop ripoff" when Cyborg predated Robocop by a few years.
You can find the movie on Youtube (fully dubbed in English). Assuming you have 2 hours you'd like to spend on watching it.
There's the original old TV series too, with an even more impressive cloak collar. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0182646/
It's not a piracy site or anything illegal, but I removed the link anyway. People can search for it if they want. You and I are close in age, so I would hope that you know, given that we both pre-date 40k. However, there are a lot of people on this forum who are clueless, and maybe now are a little less clueless. The 40k fanbois players, yeah, they live in a little bubble where GW is the hobby, and the source of all things. They can be tiresome.
