Instagram popped up some stuff in google and I saw the name of the painter of the ugly figs we've been seeing over the last few months and it turns out that these figs aren't actually ugly, but it's Bostria's photos that are. The painter is Olmo CASTRILLO CANO, who worked at Bigchild Creatives and won 2 Golden Demons. http://demonwinner.free.fr/peintre.php?id_peintre=2031 On his instagram there are photos of ugly figs that are actually much less ugly: https://www.instagram.com/olmo_castrillo_miniatures/ Spoiler: + And if we've noticed these ultra ugly figs, we've also noticed that he's behind some cool figs, like Bixie, the morat beasts and the new morats. Spoiler: +
Thanks for finding him! That helps put a lot of stuff in context. And you're right, CB's pictures make them look worse than they are. But it doesn't change the fact that those we have been calling out are still a far cry from Luque's or Giraldez' work. And we still don't know if it's him or someone else who's behind the monstrosity that is the new Nesaie Alke.
Those swords still look like a GW contrast-like paint applied over white primer surface. Those faces are still weird looking.
The question is: Why they make the good work look bad with a strange photo-filter or whatever they use. I should be for their own interest to make good cover photos.
And it is a good question. Perhaps someone has a vision. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, if I recall that English saying correctly: I might see a photo as great, and exactly the way I wanted it to look like, and the best thing since the invention of sliced bread. You might see it as something so ugly you wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole. Even if you were paid for it. Which one of us is right, objectively speaking? De gustibus non est disputandum, after all... ...of course, in the commercial setting, once enough of one's clients decide the pics look so bad they won't be buying the product, a manager should notice that and, umm... straighten the course of the photographer / photo editor. I'm straying away from the CB here - I've heard - and seen - enough horror stories where it was actually the other way: the manager / owner / customer (of an advertisment agency) had some harebrained idea on how they wanted the things to see. And it was either a graphics person being stubborn and making the customer follow the good practice, or not giving a damn and letting the SNAFU leave their workshop and go public, because they were paid to create what the customer wanted, and not what was sensible...
May be reason was the next: "Oh no! We should try to make painting looks worse. Or people would complex to paint their own miniatures knowing they would not reach this level!" (I am not serious, as you can see...) But to talk serious, I really want to see, how Nesaie Alke normally looks. It was the top on the most questioning painting among them.
Don't miss a special offer in which we bring back old limited miniatures in our online store! HAPPY DAYS OFFER
Just ordered a little Xmas present to myself, missed out on Eduardo the first time around, and I'm not going to say no to another sniper hunter and CSU! Edit: Any chance we could get Max Scorpio the next time you run a promotion like this?
The two stores in my area still have not received October release and only one store got November. Now it irritates me because I was thinking of getting the new SP pack.
Yeah, and my FLGS didn't got the Operations Deck till the end of November (which is when my community decided to cancel the order, and buy it online elsewhere). Something is rotten in the state of Denmark...
I noticed something strange with the Myrmidon box: They are very good in CC and not a single one of them has there CCW out! Why is that so? Only non-CC-capable troops show their swords? What is wrong with you CB? The Mystery of the Druze box is something in between all the guesses. Lizard Looks Strange. While the bulky mainbody looks very male, the legs with the highheels look female … Scottish sniperess looks cute. Digger is solid.
Druze. Lazy cop-out. What the hell CB? I like those figures but a re-pack? Well, I guess the sniper will be used either as a Druze sniper or maybe they are making Jethro a character? Lizard Yawn , Yet another TAG for Nomads. No big, looks cool if a bit… generic? I like it but not astounded by it. Ha! Heels! Have fun heel haters! Lol. Edit: Are they the first faction to get two different TAGs within a few months of each other? Stigmata was only back in the summer. Cascuda is a different version of the same TAG. Cascuda Looks like the last one. Cateran I like it but is it me or does it look like an old pre-CAD design? The way they phoned-in the Druze I wouldn’t past it being on the shelf for a few years. Myrmidons I’m actually surprised they did a box of 4 since they’ve been doing mixes of 3 lately. As usual it’s only one troops that you want with three that will never see the light of day. Of all my friends that have played SP, I don’t think anyone has taken anything other than chain rifle. Sure, they look cool and I want them, but can I afford to spend a lot of money on really only one figure I actually want? I’m not great at conversions and I’m not a fan of proxy when actual figures exist. Digger This actually looks kick ass! I’ll be getting this one for sure.
I like the chonky Lizard. It looks industrial, retrofit TAG it should be and would make a good triphammer for NA2 forces. The Cateran is a great sculpt that takes inspiration from earlier models. The Digger looks fun and generic to be used as a lot of units.
Again, I’m astounded by their poor marketing. Why would they come out with the other version of the Caskuda when the previous TAG set is still on shelves? They really haven’t given that set time for people make up their minds to buy. Now they are in competition with itself! Customers don’t have to spend more money on the set, and it will be sitting on shelves for a long time to come. One of the stores I go to have about 5 on the shelf and the other 3-4. Neither have sold any except to those that pre-orderd. Now why would I buy it when I don’t have to? Quick poll here: How many of you would have bought the set if you didn't know an individual one was coming out? How many of you waited for the single Caskuda? How many that bought the set will get this one as well? Almost the same issue with the Lizard. At least it’s not a version of an already existing TAG. But still it’s going to have problems just by people that have already spent their Nomad money this year. It’s going to depend on Christmas grandma money I think. But I could be wrong on this one. Nomads are popular and it might sell no matter what. It’s generic enough to be used as a proxy for something else. Next is the Myrmidons. It’s not that bad and on par for what they’ve done before. But the timing is bad. This is a set that should have come out last year while SP got the re-work. They are possibly the most taken troop in SP. Characters can wait because they sell no matter what. It will still sell well but not as well as it could have. Also, they should have made one of the figures more “generic”. Like just attacking with CC weapon. So then it can proxy as a Combi, Chain rifle or BSG. As I mentioned above. I don’t know anyone that plays anything other than just the chain rifle.
