Hey everyone, this one might be a little bit unusual, since this is about the table itself and not the scenery. I still wanted to share this because for me this solves a Problem that others with Kids might have too. In order to be able to play a Session of Infinity I need to prevent our Toddler to pull stuff from the Table. Infinity Miniatures are not very safe in the Hands of a Toddler. So I basically needed a Table with a Frame that is high enough to prevent that. I've built this from Scratch with cheap construction Wood. This was also my very first woodworking project that I ever did (please don't look to closely if you're a carpenter :P). Since the Room that it's standing in is quite small, I unfortunately couldn't make a wider border for putting down stuff. So that's why I also came up with these little attachments that you put on the frame. It's quite nice to play an, the downside is though that you really need a liner as the frame prevents you from checking from the side of the table for firing arcs. But since the alternative for me is not being able to play at all, that's a good compromise.
That is a wonderful solution, if checking fire arcs ever becomes crucial you can always take a photo since leaning to check is not easy.
Ohh, that never occured to me. Usually using a laser liner does the trick, but if not I'll give that a shot!
Hmm, actually, it looks like after taking off a few of the holoads, you could have the Infinity terrain fully enclosed within the table. Therefore - being stored inside the gaming table. It would cut down terrain setup time: your table is already set, just reinstall the holoads and what not (unless you are in the mood to rearrange the terrain setup, your choice!). The only thing I'd suggest is adding a cover for the top of your table, as to protect the terrain inside from dust or any other mishaps when you're not playing. Not necessarily with a single panel, (as it would have to be ~124x124cm, kinda inconvenient...) but 2 or 3 (well, or maybe 4...) parallell boards. Want to play - take thme off and put them aside.
I realy like the idea. Even without a small human in my house I think about doing something alike (Cats can be a riscy factor aswell). A little woodwork should be possible to achive if you´re not heading for a masterclass furniture but very well made, inspiring
Great table. You could also create removable inside art by using art on card stock that fit's the inside.
just checked, unfortunately the 3 floor building is around 2-3 cm to high :/ No Lid for me unfortunately. But so far Dust doesn't seem to be an Issue with this Room. I've had it setup like this for a few months now without it being an Issue. thanks! I can highly encourage everyone to try this yourself. I had never done any woodworking project before and this Project really needed a minimal amount of tools. I had an extremely cheap miter saw (had it from another project around the house) that used to trim the wood to the right length and just a basic drill, a hammer and something to sand it. So I had nothing to do long cuts, the trick was to plan out my construction based on the sizes of the wood that I could get at our local store. Really everyone can do this. I definitely made a lot of mistakes along the Way, but worst case you just buy some new wood. But that's not a big deal when you build from cheap construction wood. That's a really nice Idea. Might be interesting to take something thicker and in addition give it some structure, giant colony ship walls stuff you could attach some barbed wire on the top of the frame
I guess I could make it as kind of an inset. I've built the inside slightly bigger then the 120cm edge length that we need, because I didn't trust my ability to build very precise. Would probably need to be two parts though since the max size of the short edge of materials I can get is 120cm. And I'd need slightly more.
I see three solutions: a lid that rises above the terrain. I'd advise agaisnt it - it will be big, heavy and unwieldy. Also, it'll get in your way if you attach it to the table's sides (via hinge of one kind or another), blocking access to the table form a given side. redo the sides of the table to be higher and cover the entire terrain's height, then use a flat lid. Again, i'd advise agaisnt it - taller sides would make gameplay more uncomfortable than it is now. It'll also limit the hieght of your future buildings, as will the solution above. partially take down the terrain to make it flush with the exsiting table edges (and allow a flat lid, again, preferable made of a number of boards to make it light and easy to place / remove). Con: makes setting up / cleaning after a game a bit more time consuming (with only lower floors of the buildings and other low enough terrain remaining in place, and the rest getting removed / put on the game's "ground level" for storage). On the plus side, this doesn't require you to alter the table itself, save for the abovemntnioned planks for covering it when not in use. I'd suggest training your cat to not get on a table. Otherwise you might end with your pocket panther landing in the middle of your gaming table during the game... likely, expecting the lid to be in place or something. Cat wanting to be in a box (with your gaming table being kinda like a box...). Resulting in much chaos and descruction (and possible injury to the feline, too). From my experience - teaching a cat that you do not get into certain places is doable. Cats can respect that... at least as long as a human is in sight.
If I do a 3 part lid I can probably get away with quite thin light sheets. something like 9mm multiplex for the sides of an inset and something even thinner on top. That Way I could also simply store it in the storage area under the table that I have any Way. But to be honest, I probably won't build one in the near future, because now that I have gathered some Experience I got the confidence to build it from a higher Quality Material. While it's looking ok and is a lot more stable then I would have expected for my first Build, there are a lot tiny imperfections that I would love to get rid off. And I would also like to go with a Wood that I can just oil and leaves as is. I mean I could do that with the construction wood too, but it's just ugly. That's why I painted the whole thing white.
How about hinged “door” lids? But you’ll need the right kind of hinge to be secure and allow for it to go all the way down the side of the table.
I'd need a bigger Room for that. Since I would need at least 60cm in each direction, which I currently don't have.
