Between this and the French, it's pretty interesting fodder for thought about how Reinforcements could possibly work.
I actually really like that. I mean, it's not like it's news to anyone, and this way, new players know immediately which factions they can expect to find models for and which not.
Yeah, it's great from the perspective of conveying needed information. But my artichoke-loving heart is sad nonetheless!
The moderator said that there would certainly be repacks, so we can say that the moderator doesn't have any more information than the partners who distribute the game in other countries and who learn the news as we do. If it would have been wise to delay the removal of the catalog by 1 month, after the release of the Reinforcements rules, so as to be able to see with a clear head what would or wouldn't have been necessary to buy. But with IF, human factions would have better stats against tohaa.
We were all hoping "last to chance to buy" meant "last chance to buy these boxes, and we're repacking Spiral stuff into new products" but that was a long shot that did not, in fact, connect. I for one am really happy that I didn't buy them because I was sorely tempted but worried they were shelving Spiral.
Bostria did an interview at Graviton, from what I understood of the auto subtitles, I did a review and I have an official explanation so for the removal of the Spirale Corps : Interview - Bostria - Talking design in Infinity Today we're featuring an interview with Bostria, Infinity's CB image, who gives us her take on the design and creation of our favorite figurines. Spoiler: Rest of summary Report - Bostria likes the concept of the Interplanetario because it puts Corvus Belli back in touch with reality, since most of its members are not always in contact with gamers, as not all of them travel to conventions even if some do, of course they take the pulse of the Spanish more than the inters. - He talked about his work as an art designer during the first versions of infinity and his anecdotes about the factions he worked on, the tactical heels, the Qapu Khalqi, the PanOceania, Yu Jing and his Ministry of Aesthetics, the difficulties in finding a concept for the first version of the Combined Army because the ideas were vague, the tohaa including the makaul which followed the idea of dark elves... - Bostria spoke of his disappointment at the failure of Spiral Corps in the community, a fact confirmed by the sales figures. Initially, the idea of the Spiral Corps was to give a boost to the Tohaa, but even a simple reconditioning of the Military Orders or Jeanne by herself makes more sales than the Spiral Corps. The fact that there were other very successful starter releases such as Tunguska, Varuna, etc. certainly didn't help players to focus on this starter and so abandoned it in favor of others. - He also explained how he works on events and in particular on battle report videos with TTS, explaining that he follows a fixed script to highlight situations, which are similar between all the videos, in order to keep a logic, so there isn't really a match but rather a demo of the rules with a pretext. Sometimes he takes pleasure in making exceptions to highlight things related to the faction, like a nomad who makes a kind of stop to say haha after defeating a pano knight, just to set the scene. He makes his report videos via a website and then cuts into his 2-hour rush. His ambition would be to one day reproduce an Interplanetario final, and from there embroider a funny setting that reflects the game actually played. - At the moment, Bostria prefers games like Aristeia and Star Wars Imperial or X-Wing than Infinity. - Infinity's design is currently handled by just two artists, Carlos Torres and Roberto Zoreda (mainly for the O-12), with Carlos handling 85% of the work. The sculptors who come to bring these designs to life talk to each other via Skype. Carlos Torres stays on top of everyone and talks with everyone to maintain the artistic direction he wants. - He went on to talk about the production process, saying that Gutier is the showrunner who comes up with the ideas, Carlos Torres then comes in to do the designs, and sometimes the artists go back and forth. - Bostria said that this came about as a result of Carlos Torres' evolution from pencil to tablet drawing, and because American audiences are more familiar with modern anime than old ones. And the artists have a big influence on the direction, as Francisco and Champer have this type of very precise drawing rather than Shirow drawings, so it's tended towards this realistic direction. But Japanese motorcycles still tend to reproduce that era. - Bostria said that although they were aware of the existence of the battle sisters, that Bakunin wasn't inspired by them, that the concept of the first moiras already reflected this direction. - Corvus Belli thought of making a spin-off game featuring Ninja from the box that groups them together, then adding gardens, and making a little fighting game around that. - The idea of making a chibi game came after seeing the trailers, which had been made in chibi mode, and the result made them want to do everything in chibi style. The trailers are made with Blender and After Effect, and the production follows the mechanics of the music to keep the rhythm. - 2024 will see a special video like those made in Doom or 80s mode, because Bostria has the time and inclination to do it. - The 80s video is a parody of two videos, one on Star Wars toys and the other on a video game that was itself an 80s parody.
I'm curious to know where these summaries come from, because in the most important things what the summary says and what was actually said in the interview have absolutely nothing to do with each other. By the way, neither TTS, nor any Pano knight, nor x-wing is mentioned at absolutely any point in the interview.
if they didn't make Spiral Corps suck, it would have sold better. Good rules promotes sales. The minis were beautiful.
I wouldn't say they sucked, (maybe not top tier, but they were fine). I suspect what may have had a lager impact on their sale was their release coinciding with the discontinuation of every other Tohaa model. Despite the Spiral being an NA2 army, it was not really unique enough to be considered an army outside of its parent faction like JSA could, and every other NA2 army is essentially a mix of 2 armies. The only other NA2 to be in a similar position is Druze, but Druze was never trying to sustain an entire product line by itself. So the draw to buy Spiral may have been hampered by the idea that it was essentially a dead end when it came to building a collection beyond the initial offering. Tunguska, Varuna, and MO may not have sold well if every other model from their respective vanilla factions had been discontinued.
