If it doesnt matter if a unit lives or dies, why add an arbitrary rule like 'Commlink'? As it currently stands, lists are now paying a (approx.) 20+ point tax on models that are not always used, while also playing down 50 points from what I assume most people are playing (300pts). Just looking for some discussion around this... 1) If the rule is arbitrary, and the model that have commlink are extremely limited, should it be mandatory you take these models? 2) Would just having a rule where 'Reinforcements' are an event/game option be a valid change (similar to Mercs or Spec Ops)? 3) Would it be game breaking to just have 'Commlink' models just provide buffs to an army for the additional points cost?
The commlink trooper may be moved to the reinforcement group as part of the drop, giving them one extra order to play with.
Given that they are LI basic models with extra costs and Specialist Operative on top, any Sectorial will include them in a Fireteam. And you will never move out a member of the Fireteam. Vanilla, on the other hand...
I find this rule wierd, too. If I want to play with reinforcements, why can't I just play with it? Commlink then can add more variety/options by giving me +1 or +2. But I feel taxed to pay for commlink just to be able to play this mod.
Especially since the unit is hideously expensive and their +1 mostly useless. Playing Tunguska, I am paying a premium of 23pts for my Securitate +1 Commlink and the fact that it's a spec ops I will never use. With the average cost of Tunguska units and the average cost of reinforcement units, there is no way I will ever be able to actually put 16 troopers on the table. If the average REF game were 400 points and the split 275/125, maybe. But CB said nothing so far about how different game sizes are being handled. I don't even understand why the Commlink skill is so expensive. If both sides are getting it, couldn't it just be 0?
Reinforcement size (points and swc) is the same for all game sizes. https://infinitytheuniverse.com/resources/infinity?docLang=en, see "Reinforcement rules", page 2, chapter "REINFORCEMENTS & REINFORCEMENTS SECTION", second bullet point Further see page 3 for the request table, which states the conditions for reinforcements to arrive, depending on the game size.
I don't understand: if we play to 350pts and 7 swc, and I don't put a commlink unit (but my enemy do it), I can play normally 350pts of army without reinforcements ? Otherwise if it is mandatory that both players use the reinforcements, the commlink is really useless.
I was noticing the points and swc are kinda all random. Some pay way less and 0 swc while others pay more pay .5 swc and don’t even get a +1/+2 option. My personal feeling is that since comlink is mandatory it should not be taxed. It should cost closer to the base profile. Then those factions that get a +1/+2 bonus should have an alternate additional profile with a points and swc bump if they want it. I feel like we’re going to see some balancing and more shakeups after the new season starts though and the new missions might give us some things that really lean into this to make it more attractive to the general player base. I’m excited to see some new life in the game rules even if it comes with growing pains. :)
I dunno. There's a bunch of sectorials that just don't want to play the basic troops and those will probably use the commlink dude to give an extra order to the reinforcement group, if the trooper survives long enough.
