    Updated rules book : Infinity N4 v2.0 : https://infinitytheuniverse.com/blo...HZVw-BK3FREWX1H3mNUx389N0PPercvIP80J2C9wdZ-Ok

I read through the updated Jump/Climb rule (Climb and Climbing Plus is a lot better now, effectively gaining the silhouttes height as extra movement when moving up!), but I am still unclear on the path of the silhouette when it rounds the corner from horizontal to vertical to horizontal again. How does people play it - is there a FAQ I've missed?

    - Does the silhouette "snap" from vertical to horizontal, with no movement inbetween? This is simple to play, but has undesirable side effects if you just want to pop up and down again.
    - Does it pivot on the edge?
-- If so, on the forward or trailing edge of the base? Or smoothly over the entire base, depending on the degree (this gets tricky to play!)

With climbing plus in particular, you can hang on the wall out of LOF, move to the top of the building, gaining LOF, and move back down out of cover. It is relevant how much of your profile you need to expose to do move above the edge of the building - you may unnecessarily expose yourself to ARO from other enemy troopers than your target.

This question, if giving a proper 'Rules as Intended' answer, is quite critical for all of us who have plenty of climbing plus units. Specially because our units with climbing plus does not forsake the ability to claim partial cover during all the activation, like jumping or jumping plus does, but only while they're standing over an vertical surface. To know with precision when exactly the trooper stop being over a vertical surface and when he is now standing over horizontal surface and therefore being able to claim partial cover, would be great to avoid 'feeling bad' situations on the table. Mind that I do not mind if climbing plus get a little push or a little nerf because of this, I just want to know for sure what's the intention behind it to play properly!

I would say it gains cover as soon as the entirety of the base is in the flat surface, but I would accept half the base as it aligns with moving through gaps.

You must always have your base fully supported. This has not changed over the last 10 years or so. Note how the rules still say the general movement rules still have to be followed?

This means it snaps from one surface to the next with no in-between. Just keep in mind that you measure the path taken, so this will typically cost you the full silhouette diameter in movement with no snapping if you don't have enough movement to "pay" for it.

This makes sense and is usually easy to handle. However, it leaves some oddities - if you have a staircase up to a roof with a parapet, and an enemy trooper prone right at the top of the staircase.

If there is no place to stand, and you can't see the enemy trooper from your position hanging on the wall, you can't get to a firing position without using a Climb move and finding another spot on the wall. Is that how it is intended to be played?

If so, then you can position a prone fireteam behind a parapet on a small building such that even climbing-plus models can't get to a position where they can fire at all, which seems gamey.

You only enter Engaged when you enter Silhouette to Silhouette contact. If the opponent is prone behind a railing, you can usually move up and use the railing to make vaulting movement around the hostile trooper provided there is enough space for your units somewhere up there. Just because you measure the surface that the opponent is standing on to determine distance, doesn't mean your Silhouette is occupying that surface. The game's 3D.

P.s. I'm not sure the rules teeeechnicaaaalllyy allow you to climb other directions than up and down without Climbing Plus. I suggest that some tables might need a more liberal interpretation of this to make them more playable, so if it comes up look at the table and chat with your opponent.

Here's a specific example from a recent game:

    https://photos.app.goo.gl/MZaz6zUuYVCBBYtL8

The Shang Ji want to climb up the stairs, peek over the edge and duck back as a short move, and then hose down the prone Dakinis with his Chaincolt as a BS attack (taking a bunch of ARO shots back, of course). What is the path of the path of the short move, and would the Shang Ji be able to claim cover from all points on that path?

On the bottom left of the image the Shanger can move up the ladder, essentially over-hang the Dakini paramedic and from there hose down most of the fireteam. You'll have two options from here:
    1. Go up and then move down again. Claim cover from the railing is a possibility (you only need a fraction to hide your silhouette). Note that ladders do not benefit from the climbing rule so you'll probably not be able to get all the way down to ground level with 6" movement. Due to the angle involved you can probably get either;
    a) The paramedic and HMG
    b) The HMG, Sniper and Parvati
    2. You can move all the way up, do a "balancing act" on the railing (essentially walking over the Paramedic), and set down behind the Paramedic, on the Paramedic's Prone and Suppression token. Doing this usually means you can't claim cover, however, due to the very aggressive angles these units are positioned in I don't think they will be able to see where you get off the railing, so you should still be able to claim cover.
From that position you should be able to hose down all of them.

Note that since Shangers don't have Climbing Plus, using an actual Climb is not a good idea and will not benefit the Shanger!

In the current ITS they get Super jump in some missions and +1 MOV in others but not Climbing plus.

I think it was for illustration purposes.

The Shang Ji in the illustration has 6-2 movement with no frills. He intends to use the ladder.

He's doing option 1, peeking up and ducking back down.

The question really is - what does his path look like? There must be a point where there is LOF from his silhouette to the prone Dakinis - where is that?

It's from on top of the railing.

If you move up to the top of the ladder, and at that point start vaulting on the railing, the Shanger will spend 1" to snap to a position almost right above the Dakini with the silhouette "balancing" on the railing, and then you need to spend a further 1" to be able to make it back to the ladder again to start moving down. From the top position you can then use your second short skill to shoot the Dakini, and you get to claim partial cover from the railing obscuring the Dakini's LOF.
Since you never enter contact with the Dakini, you'll never interact with the General Movement Rule that would stop your movement path short.

MS Paint is awful, but that's the tool I have atm.

OK, thanks, that works. So, you need to have 2" (or 2x silhouette width?) of spare movement to snap-and-snap back in order to peek over the railing?

Correct. Since the Dakini are prone lower than the railing you need to get up over it.

Beware extra AROs from the other side of the building and good luck!
