It’s simple. Ironclad belief in one’s own rightness and righteousness, without even a single digit percentage of the information needed to make a decision.
Because its not my job to assume the best in something until i've been burned a sufficient number of times to conclude that assumption wrong. The thing about communication strategy is no communication is also a strategy. You can't decide to take little action and then be upset that people are assuming the worst. If you want a certain response from the community, you need to take intentional steps towards that. If those steps aren't working you might adjust. But just sticking your head in the sand and hoping the annoyed gamers will go away and leave you with the pleasant, no complaining gamers is naive. It's cliche but its the whole "with power comes responsibility." The dynamic between consumer and developer is imbalanced. Both parties invest time and money into a game/setting but one holds all the cards and the other really only holds a termination card, and while this may be the right and proper balance of power, the key to a harmonious relationship is acknowledging and respecting it.
I think I need to sadly remind again that somebody been a company employee is not an excuse to display a truly unacceptable behavior towards that person.
This is far from the worst possible portrayal; it is the simplest and most likely implication, given the information we have been provided. To reiterate, my comments are not a personal attack against you or your opinions. Rather, they are a response to your explanations, given in an official capacity as defacto CB spokesperson. My question was genuine, because I don't know how official your comments and explanations actually are. My point was you take a lot of flak, that you probably don't deserve, because your comments are perceived as official statements.
@PhDeezNutz The reply and explanation given, not by me, is that it was found that the formula did not produce the correct points specifically for the Bulleteers and it was fixed. I do not know why there should be a requirement to know, why and how the error was found, how frequently CB is or should be testing all profiles for errors and why it was found now. I think "we found an error and fixed it" should be sufficient for a unit patch.
into the too hard basket we go again. I get that dealing with people who don't agree with you is hard work. Thats why its literally a profession that companies pay large sums of money for people who are good at/experienced at doing it.
One reason might be player confidence in the ruleset and army builder; and ultimately, customer retention. Practically every game developer communicates their intent with each update and balance change, so there must be some value to it.
I do not mind people not agreeing with me, I do not mind people not been convinced by what I deem as reasonable explanations. But I do find that some ways to express disagreement are not appropriate.
If you're referring to myself or other posters in the last couple pages you're going to need to be more specific? Otherwise I have to question why you're dragging that into responses to me. You do seem to mind as you keep banging the same line out without really adding anything more to the conversation. M
I don't want to derail the thread, but @psychoticstorm, that's kind of up to you. Think someone is being repeatedly aggressive or inappropriate? Suspend them with a final warning. You're literally the only person in the cosmos moderating this forum. That could even be part of the communication upgrade for the company, you know? Something like this: "Corvus Belli today announces its commitment to a new quarterly balance pass. This exciting process will involve the rules team reviewing faction balance, unit efficiency, and ITS win rates. We will communicate these changes to you in the new Game Balance thread, along with a short text explaining our thinking behind the changes. The Game Balance thread will be for anouncements only, and replies will be turned off. We hope that this leads to greater game balance and customer enjoyment of our game; we believe Infinity to be the best miniatures game in the world, and we're committed to bringing a new level of balancing and care to our custody of the game for our amazing player base. As part of this refresh of how we communicate with our customers, we are also introducing stricter guidelines on how our forums will be moderated. Aggressive, insulting or trolling behaviour will no longer be tolerated (especially when directed at Corvus Belli staff, whom we have a responsibility of care towards), and will lead to final-chance suspensions and permanent bans, should mod warnings go unheeded. No one wants their game community to be a negative place, and we apologise for letting a level of negative discourse emerge as the norm on our forum."
I only have to say that if something like this come to happen I would be delighted. It can even happen outside of the forum if you like, like in Blog format at the Infinity / CB webpage, and then spread in social media for awareness, including the forum. If you want to have an example of a way to do this, you can see how Hearthstone do their patch notes with all the card adjustments and developer insight behind it.
You already did their job for them. Very good stuff! This is exactly the kind of communication I wish for. And there are precedents from other companies as well. Para Bellum just released their newest patches for Conquest, and it's well communicated, takes in player feedback, and is part of a habit of regular patches to address balance problems. And guess what? The community absolutely loves the company for it.
Enough with your BS. You barely even play this game. I have hosted plenty of tournaments, played in even more, and I have enough information to make plenty of calls.
You're advocating that CB treat its customers with disdain and disrespect. Being an employee in this kind of situation doesn't put you beyond criticism; fuck the hugbox. I saw that kill White Wolf.
How about creating a thread for customer claims for unit costs. For instance we can write like. this unit has these abilities. The similar these units have these costs. so we recommend something like this. And every beginning of month CB can check these comments and make some changes accordingly or in other thread which can not be commented, they can notify whey they made a change or not.
@psychoticstorm I ask again, where does it say in the forum rules that discussing "the formula" is verboten?
@Camo Token I ask again, where is that nice Internet place that you claim exists and where one can find the magic and accurate point formula...? :)
No. He’s not. You’re again seeing things that aren’t there. Criticism is one thing, constructive criticism another thing again, neither should lead to any employee of a company being treated like shit for decisions that are likely not even theirs. I again refer you to how respect works. It’s something that is earned and it goes both ways. Behaving in the manner you do will not generate respect nor entitle you to be treated with any. Now. Back on topic with the development cycle: it has been a little while since an update on what’s going on. It’s likely, as others have said that more new releases will be mentioned for the August wave. Anyone going to Gen Con may want to raise any issues there. It’d probably get more traction being asked at the event than on here.
