I've tried to figure out the specifics and I've combed most of the RPGs and pretty sure I checked out all of the english-available lore books.

Just curious if it's ever explicated on. AFAIK it's something to do with like... getting the eucharist or confession or something via Maya/ALEPH?

Page 24 of Human Sphere N3 (Neovatican Indulgences) is the most information I have seen about the pact between Aleph and the Church. Basically, promoting that Religious Institutions should adjudicate who can Resurrection. This raises the church's power and probably influenced church's stance of Aleph.

    Or... read Hyperion books.

In that masterpiece of scifi (part 2 iirc) the church grants resurrection by means of a "cyber-cross" implanted in every Christian, which somehow is able to rebuild someone's body and mind. Let's call it a cube :)

But secretly, there's an AI which feeds on the humans intelligence, which works fastest just before they die (you know, all that about seeing your whole life in a few seconds).

Its a damn good 4 book series. I have read the entire saga around the time when the last part came out, around 15 years ago. Absolutely worth a reread, thanks for reminding me about these books.
